This was my first time at chaplin and I liked the warmth of the wood floors and the furnishings and use of fabric on walls which made it a great place to engage in conversation. I look forward to eating there again.
Excellent ramen and charming helpful waiter. We went for lunch on Saturday with kids and it was pretty empty but the service was very good and the food was as well. The outdoor seating is lovely.
Great restaurant, I have been coming here since I moved here almost two years ago.
Tasty, hearty Japanese food. The service was a little slow, but our server made up for that with solid recommendations on the menu.
Great food! Really cool spot and chill atmosphere
The food took a long time to make it to our table but other than that it was great
With so many restaurants in DC to choose, I usually go to a restaurant once and never go back, unless it was really good. I'll go back to Chaplin. There were a lot of interesting choices for food and drink. Ambiance was energetic. We went in around 6 pm and a line quickly formed for tables.
Great ramen, but not so impressed with the appetizers.
Great place to meet friends for good Asian food. Gyozas are to die for. Ramen was too spicy and we barely ate it. Buns are amazing.
The place is too loud, I literally left my voice there!
Service was excellent.
Slow service at the end.
Loud upper bar area. Good for young professionals, bad for parents
The menu items we ordered were very good... gyoza, three different ramen soups. The "Chaplain" ramen bowl had so much lean pork, I was surprised and happy! I like that you can do "add-ons" to any of the ramen bowls. Adds to the variety you can get if they don't have exactly the bowl you want. The music was on the loud side, as were the ambient voices of other parties. The service was very solicitous and good. We were late for our reservation but they have a policy of holding your table for 15 minutes before they release it, so that was convenient for us. It is a bit on the strange side to have non-Asian owners open a ramen place with a Charlie Chaplin theme. But if you ignore that weirdness and just focus on the food, I would recommend it. Just keep in mind the noise level.
I spent the Memorial Day holiday in DC with my family 5/26/19. We had a party of eight and had an amazing time. the service was spot on. never had to wait long even though the restaurant was packed.
All of our appetizers and entrees were great. I had the Stamina Spicy Ramen it was amazing.
Great service. Food was excellent.
This is our third year coming here to celebrate birthdays and we love it! It would be even better if the noodles were made fresh! We will definitely be back!
Amazing experience and service by Presley!!!
Great food. Beautiful weather and sat outside. It was great but the waiter spilled on me.
Best ramen in DC. Very cool atmosphere and and a great beer/wine list.
Chaplin's is always packed so plan ahead! The food is yummy but stick to shumai, gyoza, and the ramen. thought the pork platter was mediocre but everything else was tasty.
Waiter was very nice! Excellent service!
Fantastic restaurant. Great prices. The service was so nice as well - I forget his name but he was very personable and genuine in his recommendations. We had the spicy ramen and the chaplin and everyone at the table was really impressed! It's really loud, but we could still hear one another to catch up - probably a great spot for groups under 10 (it's pretty small).
Food was delicious and service was great - but music was terrible and so loud!
Great all around. Service and food were both amazing.
Overall I enjoy Chaplin and their ramen. However, service was a bit slow despite it not being that busy. Our server was friendly, just seemed a bit distracted.
Just wondering if they have cameras as I left my wallet and it was returned thankfully as soon as I got up with over $100 missing. Sucks that I basically paid for our group meal double thanks to whoever felt the need to keep all my cash. Great food and experience but now my night is ruined.
I LOVE Chaplin!! Never disappoints and it’s reasonably priced. Best ramen in the neighborhood, for sure.
The music was entirely too loud, made it difficult to have dinner with friends.
Initially service was slow, but after the time from ordering to delivery was good.
The food was really good.
delicious ramen and their gluten free rice noodles are surprisingly good!
The service is exceptional and the food is amazing. I have not gotten a dish that I didn’t not genuinely enjoy. The spicy ramen was flavorful and delicious.
Great happy hour cocktails and delicious authentic dumplings! Also, a comfortable patio and vibrant ambiance.
Te virgo bartender gave exceptional service -
And put up with my annoying friends questions !
I will be back!
Great for drinks or dinner in a date or hang out atmosphere.
Love this place
Overpriced. Terrible service. It took so long that we ended up standing up and paying at the bar. Left our still to arrive desserts behind.
Always great food, drinks, and service. Never let down by any of the food!
I made a reservation for 6 at 6:30 and requested outdoor seating. The hostesses were rude to the members of my party and made them wait to be seated until a majority arrived—even though there was plenty of seating outside. When I arrived they told me I was the first to arrive and they’d cancelled the reservation after fifteen minutes due to “no show.” I explained the rest of my party was already there. They pretended to look around (never actually leaving the host stand) and then one waved her hand in the air saying “they might be on the patio.” A group of 6 on the patio is hard to miss. Of course, everyone was there. Once I inquired later about whether they could reverse the cancellation they said there was nothing they could do. Of course, no apology for making a mistake and no offer to remedy. Our waiter was barely there—he never stayed long enough for us to put in the extra orders we wanted, I guess because they were busy. Still, I’ve never been treated this rudely by the staff there in the 3+ years I’ve been going (at least they used to be kind and helpful) and with all the lovely restaurants in the area, I’m happy to go somewhere else.
This has become my happy hour go-to! The alcoholic drinks are refreshing and well mixed. My personal favorite is “the cure”. I also make it a point to order the “pay day” beef dumplings. They are infused with Whiskey at the table...a perfect compliment for "the cure".
Food and service was awesome!!! Great place to go!
Great place to eat or to get a drink!!
I always enjoy eating at Chaplin’s.
