Service was amazing and so was the food!
The owner is great and makes sure you feel welcomed. The whole staff was attentive and caring. One of my favorites.
The best French restaurant in the bay area. Snail and duck confit are so good.
Delicious meal! Staff take great care to ensure you have a good experience.
Great vibe. Great 3 course menu. Excellent wine selection. Use QR code for menu. Outdoor dining
El menú es muy reducido, los escargots fríos del centro, el filet mignon muy rico, el lugar dentro de restaurant con mesas y sillones viejos y descuidados, limpieza ok, los meseros no son muy atentos para dar un servicio acorde a los precios que manejan. No lleno mis expectativas.
The food is consistently delicious, with just the right amount of seasoning and, surprisingly during Covid, was warm when it arrived at my table. The wait staff were knowledgable about wine pairings and very attentive. We will definitely go back!
Chapeau is one of our favorite restaurants. Always consistently excellent food and service.
Great meal. Noisy group next to us. But it was a birthday celebration. I understand.
Delicious meal! Highly recommend!
Ambiance could be improved but Owner is very friendly and helps with the wine and every dish is scrumptious!
It was lovely to get the choice to sit inside socially distanced though their outdoor space was very well done as well. Appreciated the polite and attentive service from the staff and chef himself, especially for the kind gesture to celebrate our anniversary. Delicious food. Wish the menu had more entree options for vegetarians but still managed to find delicious items. Very nice thank you.
Consistently has great service and food. Always a pleasure.
Chapeau! is more than hanging in there during what will hopefully be the winding down of the pandemic. A friend and I dined there to celebrate his birthday, and had a table outside the windows of the establishment. This was away from the heatlamps, and SF is not the ideal setting for outdoor dining in March, but we were prepared.
The cocktails were tasty -- shoutout for the mojito! We split an order of escargot, and enjoyed their delightful dinner rolls...this was before setting into the pork loin and parsnip puree, and finishing with opera torte (chocolate layers).
The waitstaff were all gracious and careful, and in sum it was a very civilized experience.
Ate outside. Was very cold but so nice to be dining again and we dressed for it.
Food was amazing. Right Bank bordeaux was out of this world delicious.
Just the best in everything.
We were inside and it was kind of cold. But the place is definitely worth it - great food!
Horrible service. Rude welcome, rude / disinterested waiter. Will not return until normal dining, and hopefully better service, resumes.
Filet mignon temperatures were a bit off. It was very good, but nothing super special.
Lovely spot and food!
Despite the lack of service and the long wait between each dish, the food was good. However, the worst part of the experience was how cold it was. They had heaters that emitted no heat and the table we were placed at had a huge gap and the wind kept gushing in. My boyfriend who barely gets cold was freezing. My wine glass was freezing cold in 10 minutes. It was almost unbearably cold. Thought to leave after the appetizer since no one checked on us for a long time. The lighting was inefficient. I felt I was eating in the dark, and cold outdoors. My first time dining at chapeau was very disappointing and the cost of the meal, over $200, was way more than I would have spent for horrible outdoor dining.
The food is very flavorful and well prepared. Nice bar as well.
Windy and cold during the outdoor dinning wished we could get the heater closer but was told need to share so not getting wishes granted
I would love to give Chapeau 5 stars, but circumstances in the pandemic detract from the experience. Service was excellent, and I was attended to throughout my meal. The salade landaise, entree (day boat scallops) and dessert (creme brulee) increased in intensity of flavor. I thoroughly enjoyed the saffron sauce binding the rest of the entree together, and savored each bite.
Outdoor dining is a must to survive as a business and to provide additional safety. However, it is definitely cold in SF, and this has ability to rapidly cool down any warm dishes served (assuming the food wasn't idle in the kitchen), so that detracted from the experience. Indoors would be great, or if there is some solution to maintain the temperature of the dishes, that would enhance the experience.
One of our favorites in SF! Every appetizer and entree was delicious--great family-owned service that is worth its value for a fancy night out! The outdoor dining during the covid-19 restrictions was fine--they were even nice to offer to accommodate our dog. We'll definitely be back!
The pork tenderloin was extremely good and the service was great but the pièce de résistance was the dessert. The chef's own opera cake and caramel ice cream was incredible. I've dined there many times over the last few years and always enjoyed it.
El servicio no fue el mejor, no tenían lista nuestra mesa al llegar. Se les olvidó parte de nuestro pedido y la comida no estuvo tan buena.
The menu prices wasn’t aligned exactly with my receipt
Excellent French food served in a very nice outdoor seating arrangement. Philippe, the owner, went out of his way to make us feel welcome and make us enjoy the food. Do try its new Opera dessert!
Possibly the best French place in the city, don't miss your chance to try it!
Best food & oservice ever!
Fantastic food & service, plus a well designed outdoor setup produced a spectacular dinner. I recommend starting with a cocktail & oysters while you decide on your pairings, perfect start to a dining experience!
Quality French food with a more casual family feel, have already recommended to friends.
Very nice birthday dinner. The food and service were both excellent!
Truly one of the best meals you can get in SF ! And the owners are lovely humans and could not be more gracious and committed to giving you a memorable meal
Everything is awesome! The owner is super humor
This place used to be one of my favorites, but post-shutdown I guess they either lost a lot of the original staff or are under some new management? Because it is nothing like it used to be.
The hostess was not helpful at all, just waving people around like herding cattle which set the tone for the night.
We waited literally 1 hour for the appetizer and another hour for the entree. There was non-existent servers and non-existent service in general. Just closing the check took 20 minutes for them to come pickup the card.
The food quality has also been severely degraded, perhaps the good chef is gone? I do not know. Either way, its too bad this once great spot is now a shadow of its former self. With things reopening, there's little to no reason to waste another night here. RIP.
Great food and kid friendly even with the pandemic restrictions. The outdoor Parklet is really nice. Love the bar and the steak dinner that I had.
My bf and I were seated in the corner on the street and felt like we were being ignored as the customers who got seated behind us got their food first. Chef was pretty nice and asked how the food was. Food was great but got cold easily since it’s outdoor dining. The server served the wrong water and didn’t ask us how we like our steak to be cooked.
I have been coming to Chapeu for years with my family and it never disappoints! The filet mignon was out of this world, cooked to perfection. I wish they had a appetizer size of the cauliflower soup because it was fantastic! And the gratin was delish, we even picked some up for the next nights dinner at the Clement street farmers market!
Not a lot of effort into ambiance for the price. No tablecloths. No recognition of 25th birthday as was mention in the reservation. Food was decent. Appetizers were the best part
I love the food at chapeau. It is one of the best French restaurants in San Francisco. Philippe, the chef and owner, is amazing.
