Amazing as always!
As always, service was perfect, the owner and his staff spent a little bit of time with everyone, making us feel welcome. The pork tenderloin and the Croze-Hermitage were spot on.
Celebrate our anniversary and it was the perfect place! We were placed in the back of our the restaurant and the service was attentive without being too much of an intrusion.
We both ordered the set dinner and the highlight was the escargot and pork tenderloin and blueberry tart!
Phillipe and staff were warm, attentive, knowledgeable about wines and just everything you would want from a restaurant.
Food choices were limited as it was a fixed price menu with an excellent price for what you received. Wines they helped choose were awesome and not overpriced. Stayed within the budget we asked for.
Will definitely go again.
I’m French and set the bar pretty high for French restaurant : Chapeau is fantastic! Hats off. Philippe and his brother are awesome. Don’t think twice, that’s your go-to French place in SF!
Chapeau was great! Their beet salad, tomato soup, onion soup, and all the main dishes were great! Out of the main dish, I particularly liked the risotto and the cassoulet!
I wrote on OpenTable I need a table outdoor. But when I arrived they said the reservation was indoor. They were able to find a table for me outdoor. But OpenTable should fix its communication.
The food, service, attention to detail was simply amazing!
Kudos to the entire team for making it a memorable way of ringing in the New Year…
My sister and I ordered Fillet Minion. The taste was perfect, so we definitely come back with our family.
Very delightful food that is as authentic as in great restaurants in France. The onion tart had the most delicate and flaky that I think I have every tasted and the cassoulet was superb with perfect duck confit and interesting sausages.
Always great Food.
Haven't been here in too long, but it's as good as we remembered. Not a fancy-schmancy French restaurant, just a good neighborhood bistro. The proprietor, Philippe, couldn't be more warm and welcoming, greeting most customers like old friends (I'm sure many of them are). Good onion soup and escargots, terrific salad, in-house baked bread. The three of us had the filet mignon (minor criticism: no frites!), cassoulet, and an interesting mash-up of striped sea bass and short rib meat. Extensive wine list and informed advice from our waiter (the Rogot he recommended was great). We miss Glen Park's Le P'tit Laurent where we'd made an Xmas Eve tradition the last few years (new owner Manhal hopes to get it back open this year), so Chapeau was a more than worthy substitute.
Always great food and I love the fact the chef is always there to welcome you and super friendly
Food was ok, but too salty in everything. Also the beef was not very tender. The chocolate was too bitter.
As always, the dinner and service were above par.
This lovely restaurant is consistently good, never a disappointing meal. A wonderful Chef who always gives you a warm and heartfelt welcome. I must say though, I do miss the tablecloths!
Absolutely delicious. A great treat. It was the perfect Christmas Eve dinner.
Always friendly. Delicious food. Classic dishes plus a few new dishes prepared well. A wonderful neighborhood bistro
This was the second time I celebrated my birthday at Chapeau. This time, I found the menu to be less classically French than before. Because I was seeking more traditional cuisine, I was a bit disappointed.
The service was professional and attentive except when our coffees never arrived.
Finally, parking in this neighborhood is very difficult. We should have taken Lyft.
The food was good, the service was very nice, everyone were very friendly and we had a great time there.
Everything was WONDERFUL
Very friendly staff delicious food and good prices. Would recommend 10/10
Food was not as good as I had hoped.
Really disappointed. Used to like to come here. Don’t think I will come back. Portions are really small. We were seated right by the door , even though I mentioned we were celebrating a birthday. It was really cold and loud. Prices really overpriced. No ambiance.
everything in this experience was "OK". nothing too fancy, nothing too extra delicious, I expected a bit more from a place that is rated so high.
Excellent food, very friendly staff. Professional but not pretentious.
Food was great. The escargot, salad, goat salad, and soups (onion and tomato) were delicious and beautifully presented. The chef comes out and talks to the customers, explains the dishes. And the entrees were great, pork tenderloin snd sea bass. And for what you get the price is right. Chappeau is definitely one of the great restaurants of SF. And we look forward to returning again!
I dined here solo recently and it was such a great experience. The Gardelles’ warmth and hospitality is amazing and a welcome contrast to many other fine dining establishments that can often feel sterile. The prix fixe is a great value— just get it because you’ll want to try as much as you can. Can’t recommend this place enough.
Food was overall ok. The risotto was really hard as if you’re eating uncooked pasta .
Best french food in town hands down. I've tried many other well known (Monsieur Benjamin, Le Central, Zazie, come to mind) but this place so far wins. Food is very traditional french and extremely rich. Venue is unpretentious, and homey so if you're looking for decor this might not suit you - but go for the food because it won't disappoint! Some of the best value 3 course meals I've seen around town.
Best quality to price value anywhere in San Francisco. And super wonderful people!
excellent food and fun atmosphere and attentive hosts.
Fantastic in every respect, as it consistently is. Certainly the finest neighborhood French restaurant outside of France itself.
Amazing food and service!! Delightful
We enjoyed the evening from start to finish. The owner who greeted us so beautifully, Ellen who took good care of us as our server, and all the staff who were gracious, attentive and so nice. The food was extraordinary. We appreciated the Happpy Birthday plate written beautifully in chocolate. All in all, a delightful dining experience.
Authentic, delicious food. Friendly service.
20+ years and Chapeau keeps getting better. A better crème brûlée I have not yet discovered. Philippe and stay are attentive, professional and sincere. Ambiance indoors is superb; outdoors is functional and warm (not easy in San Francisco).
One of the best restaurants in San Francisco.
Wonderful meal! Three course selection is a must have. The wines by the glass also did not disappoint. Keep up the great work Chapeau!! We will definitely be returning.
