Our entire experience was outstanding. The host/owner (I suspect) greeted warmly steered us toward the bar where we had made a reservation and told us to sit anywhere. Similarly the bartender greeted us warmly--as though we were regulars--and recommended a great Bordeaux for us. The quality of the wine for the price we paid was an excellent value. We ordered a steak and lamb shank. They were prepared perfectly. We ordered a couple of glasses of Grand Marnier and a couple of shots of espresso for "dessert". While we were waiting, one of the waiters brought a long plate with Happy Anniversary inscribed in chocolate along with a couple of small eclairs. We found that to be a very thoughtful gesture. It cost them little and bought a whole lot of goodwill from us. Overall it was a very warm experience. We felt very welcome there and cannot wait to go back, if only for a couple of drinks every now and then, and the occasional meal.

Another wonderful experience. The service is always great. We had two different seasonal cocktails. The Earl Grey martini was very refreshing, I declined the sugared rim. The in-house Pate, mussels, filet, duck confit, french toast and creme brulee were all amazing. High recommend!

Chapeau is an SF gem. It’s a French restaurant that serves classic dishes with a modern twist. It’s pricey but worth it.

Ive dined at Chapeau 4-5 times over the last six years, so not that often. But I have good memories of my dining experiences both for food, wine and service. This visit was less memorable, especially food wise. The amuse bouche was excellent and promised an excellent meal ahead. The appetizers were also good - soup, salmon trio & a fresh salad. But each of the main courses lacked in flavor and execution. We had the lamb shank - flavorless & dry, the cassoulet also lacked aroma & flavor and the included meats seemed warmed over too many times; the salmon entree was overcooked; the pork tenderloin was the best of the group and it was good, not great, but the accompanying purée and Brussels sprouts were very good. It was a disappointing meal especially for a birthday celebration. It may have had something to do with the fact that it was a very busy Friday night and everyone seemed stretched thin.

Chapeau is simply magnificent. The food (everything) was done to perfection with the best sourced vegetables and meats and fish. And you can tell this place is loved- every person who worked there was smiling, super attentive and above all kind. I told the chef on the way out that when Fleur de Lys went out of business years ago in San Francisco no one could ever compare where authentic French cuisine was concerned - until now. Chapeau takes it to another level. The food and hospitality were peerless and we will be back again many times!
