I wasn't in this restaurant for more than a year. And I didn't like current menu. "Two way duck" and dish with rabbit (not remember exact name) were much tastier.
Impressive Staff, subtle and unintrusive, warm and generous. The Chef came out and acknowledged the entire dining room, true hospitality. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and celebrating our yet to arrive first-born. Very happy. Thank you.
We always feel welcome at Chapeau!, and last night was no exception. When we entered the small entryway we were greeted by the hostess and the owner. Then our server remembered us from last year down to the exact table we occupied. So the service was stellar.
The food as well was just as good as it was on our first visit last year. We had starters of the onion soup and the salade landaise. Very refreshing both of them were. Mains of bouillabaisse, lamb shank with lentils, and pork tenderloin were all presented well and tasty too. I do have to be honest and state that the bouillabaisse is a very small portion and could be larger. But that's the only negative about the food.
Desserts were all fantastic as usual.
We certainly will return soon again.
We had a great dinner with real French cuisine! It was good to be able to speak French with our server and the chef! Great hospitality and food! You should try it!
We sat down at 8:30pm, order was taken at about 8:45pm.
Dinner was served at about 9:55pm, and it wasn’t that busy.
Food was great, they need to work on their service and delivery!!!
Great meal and atmosphere, and as always Philippe is a charming and generous host. I do believe the food gets better in here all the time. I had the poussin (baby chicken) which was fabulous, and my date had the cassoulet, which is more delicous than ever. A terrific bottle of wine topped it off. I always look forward to dinner at Chapeau!!
Each guest is very warmly welcomed and looked after for their entire evening meal at this very nicely designed French bistrot. The service is careful and handled quietly and well. The menu provides a well rounded choice of appetizers, main courses, and desserts, which can paired as the diner prefers to make a 3 or 4 course dinner. Fairly priced, not cheap, but not exorbitant, and, I think, every guest goes home with a fine feeling of having an excellent dinner with excellent service in an extremely pleasant environment.
Overall, great place for some great French food and service. Only down side was the pace between courses was slow. We waited about 30minutes between our appetizer and entrée.
Wonderful food and ambiance. Unparalleled service.
We've had many wonderful meals here. It's equally great for dropping in, sitting at the bar, and enjoying moules and frites with great wine or a cocktail, or for a special occasion. We especially like sharing a glass with Chef Phillipe toward the end of the night. Always a treat to dine here
Fabulous dining experience. The service is very friendly and accommodating and the food is incredible! I had the filet mignon with bone marrow, and my boyfriend ordered the bacon wrapped pork, and both entrees were amazing!
We celebrated our 20th anniversary and always enjoy the delicious food and friendly service from Philippe, Ellen, Guillaume!
Love you guys and we'll see you again soon!
Food is always excellent.....service is excellent. Nice to always see Chef come out and greet everyone. Shows he cares a lot about his customers and food. Highly recommend for any occasion.
We had a nice experience, service was professional and the food was good. Had to send back over-cooked steak but round #2 was fine. However my friend did find out on the next day that they overcharged us on the bill. It was a very confusing and complicated bill and neither of us had the brainpower to calculate on the spot. I was very surprised as that almost never happened for restaurant at this level.
The French cooking here is always perfection. Chef always comes out to say hello and thank you. We come down from Santa Rosa, and appreciate their "early bird" price fixe menu. We've never had an item we didn't absolutely enjoy.
Chapeau was as authentic and friendly as ever. The food is good French gastro style, nothing more or less. The service is friendly but efficient.
One of our all-time favorites! Owner Philippe immediately made us feel welcome with unmistakable sincerity and warmth - a true gentleman. Our Parisian waiter Guillaume was the perfect blend of professionalism sprinkled with a great sense of humor, and he clearly enjoyed his job and keeping us happy. The mesclun salad, foie gras and duck dishes were perfectly prepared and mindfully handled in light of my wife’s food allergy issue. Great food and ambience, fair prices and wonderful service all around. Magnifique!
The three course meal is a great value. Our friends came up from San Jose for a nice meal, and they requested Chapeau! The staff is friendly and warm. The amuse bouche started it off nicely. All the dishes were wonderful. I can't think of a better dining experience.
I love this place
Do not tell anyone, this is our secret please!
We love the food and we love Phillipe and Ellen, the consummate hosts. They always make us feel as though we are dining in their home and every meal is a special occasion.
Great Service!! We got a seated in a corner booth style table and we’re greeted by the Chef within 5min of being seated! Plates came out hot with a beautiful presentation! They have a full bar FYI...unfortunately we weren’t told, realized it while we were leaving. All around a great SF spot! Going back soon!
I took my friend here for the first time and she loved it -- scallops and mussels were very good. The owner is the best; I love how he chases people out of the restaurant if he didn't have a chance to greet and/or thank them. Great neighborhood spot.
If you like French food, but don't like the high prices you ordinarily pay for it, the Chapeau is for you. The only down side is the size of the restaurant and the noise level. Staff were welcoming and attentive, service was relatively good given how busy it was.
Food was not as good as i thought it would be. Had higher expectations given that there were so many reviews. Take your money elsewhere.
Good place to eat. Good food and friendly professional personal
This is such a great place to have in our neighborhood. The food is fantastic, the service is outstanding and the Chef/Owner Philipe is a marvelous and gracious host.
Excellent as always in all ways.
Phillips is the owner and a great host and the food is excellent.
Excellent French cuisine with decent prices. Friendly waitstaff & chef. Love the food!!
Very enjoyable as in past. Anitole was terrific waiter.
Outstanding in food and service as always. Clearly a neighborhood gem.
Chapeau is one of my favorite French restaurants. The menu and food are excellent. I am always impressed with their quality and consistency. The owners are fabulous people!
Great food and excellent service. Parking was a bit challenging in the area.
The food was tasty, but the portions where small for my taste!!The place was ok.the waitresses not that friendly and helpful!! But the shef was really good and they offer us a free dessert!!
Fabulous, absolutely fabulous!!! Perfect pair to experiencing Casanova's Europe at the Legion.
The food was specular, perhaps the best ever, we particularly enjoyed the trio of Salmon, and Scallop as appetizers, the bacon wrapped tenderloin was the winning entrée, baked Alaska was the best of the deserts. The service was impeccable, helpful, and present, not overbearing, the ambiance is perfect for a date, cozy but a great buzz, very friendly no attitude, every table is greeted by management, rock star parking our front, who could ask for more?
Chapeau! Is a longstanding favorite of ours when we want to enjoy a French food experience That is always delicious and wonderfully staffed (including excellent bar tending!) in a warm inviting environment.
Warm welcome , great food, thank you from the chef made for an outstanding evening
I'm not a regular, but whenever I go to Chapeau, it never disappoints. It's friendly and the food is great.
EVERYTHING WAS ABSOLUTELY PREFECT!!
ELEGANT SURROUNDINGS, PERFECT FOOD, PERFECT SERVER...
OUR SERVER WAS FANTASTIC!! I BECAME VERY ILL AT MY BIRTHDAY DINNER - AND HAD TO SPEND IT IN THE CAR DOUBLED OVER...OUR SERVER GRACIOUSLY HAD MY ENTIRE PRIX FIX MEAL "TO GO"... HIS MANNER WAS INCREDIBLY GRACIOUS, UNDERSTANDING AND COMPASSIONATE. HE REALLY WAS THE PERFECT SERVER. THANK YOU AGAIN!!! I HAD A VERY YUMMY DINNER AT HOME COURTESY OF CHAPEAU :-) PORK LOIN WAS AMAZING, CAULIFLOWER SOUP WAS YUMMY AS ONLY THE FRENCH CAN DO...AND THE CREME CARAMEL WAS THE BEST I HAVE EVERY HAD, IN AMERICA AND IN FRANCE. CHAPEAU IS THE BEST FOR SPECIAL OCCASION OR JUST TO TOP OFF AND TRANSITION FROM A BUSY WEEK TO THE WEEKEND. GREAT JOB EVERYONE!!
The food was delicious. The service was attentive but not obtrusive. The prices were reasonable. Will return here on a future visit and recommend it to anyone who will travel to San Francisco. A wonderful evening.
