A perfect evening! Everyone was very happy with the ambiance, service, menu choices, good food!
Exceptionally good French onion soup. Trio of salmon terrific. Also try salade landaise if you like duck
Perfect food and experience, but two pandemic casualties, the big rib eye and french fries, gone from the menu.
This restaurant did not disappoint. Some of the dishes were top notch. The corn and onion soup were delicious. The bread was perfect. From the main dishes, the pork was my favorite. Although mine was smaller than the others around me and a little overcooked. I has a Whiskey Sour that was very good. Our waiter was not the most welcoming but everyone around him kind of made our meal pleasant. The chef came personally to welcome us and to make sure we enjoyed our meal. Regardless of the few downs, everything else was perfect and therefore of the 5 stars.
Lovely restaurant for a birthday dinner with good friends.
Recomendable
The food at Chapeau is good -- the amuse bouche was very good, as was the bread. The other dishes were good (some verging on very good). The presentation of each dish was very nice. The service was good, although the waiter was not great at pouring wine (hint: don't worry about dribbling and you are less likely to dribble, and twist the bottle when you're done to stop drops -- not hard to do). The room is pleasant. It was all very satisfactory, just nothing to go out of your way for.
It’s still good but not as good as before the Pandemic
The restaurant was cozy and beautiful. The staff was very friendly. The food was delicious. We were relaxed, did not feel rushed at all. Unlike other restaurants where the waiters tries to serve you as fast as they can so other patrons can come in. It was a wonderful dining experience.
The food was amazing! You have to try the French Toast dessert. The bread exquisite, perfectly baked…and the owner is so warm and friendly, he came over our table to talk for a while and told us about his backstory. The waiter was very diligent with the drinks and the food wait was perfect! This is a true French hearty and delicious restaurant. I’ll surely visit again!
The 3 course pre-fix was great. Food was yummy and the owner/host was able to fit us in for a later reservation, which was very accommodating. The bussers, barbacks and hosts were great but our server was not super attentive. I appreciate the small touches like writing Happy Anniversary in chocolate. Great spot for a special occasion or date night.
Very welcoming host. Excellent food and great atmosphere.
Fabulous place. Philippe Gardelle, his wife and son give this spot a truly family feeling.
Every time I go to Chapeau it results in a transformative culinary sojourn back to my earlier years discovering France. The escargot and bouillabaisse are my favorite! Bring a bottle of your best wine and share a small sip with the person who is serving you. The staff are fantastic.
Wonderful night. One point the owner is so accommodating. One point the bread is homemade that day and warm. So good. One point, The shooter of tomato basil soup was delicious.never had better. One point They make there own breads tarts etc. So good. We had the pix fixe one point the portions were so good and enough choices to make your choice hard. You get a appetizer then a entree and dessert. One point,, My entree was the filet mignon and it was so flavorful and so tender just loved it, another point for them. Then to the dessert. Oh my, if you can get two points they would deserve it. The creme Brule was the best I have ever had. And so much. Not a little taste a big serving. A wonderful meal. The restaurant deserves to be a michelin star in my opinion.
This is probably one of the most service oriented restaurant. We had a reservation at 9:30 pm snd the service snd food was amazing . The owner took care of all our needs above and beyond . Give the restaurant a true 5 star
Food is amazing - very very good. It was a bit of a zoo on a Sat night post Covid with a lot of people going out. But once we were seated Philip took good care of us and we had an enjoyable evening. Strongly recommend the seasonal corn soup - it’ll blow you away.
From the warm greeting at the door to the last bite of dessert, everything was fantastic. Oysters and champagne are a great way to start. We shared the salmon tartare, which was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Bouillabaisse was perfection and pork loin with parsnip purée and brussels sprouts was superb. House made bread was warm and crusty and house made ice creams (and sorbet) were a real treat — the profiteroles with banana ice cream were over the top. Great, friendly service, pretty room. Chapeau has everything going for it. So glad it survived the pandemic!
The food was great. The owner/chef was friendly and fun. The only down fall was the crowded tables. We were sitting closer than the houses in San Francisco. I know it’s typical of the area, but we never get used to sitting so close to other tables during dinner. Especially after COVID. They should not have restaurants that crowded. The table next to us was so close they leaned over to ask us what we ordered. Small restaurants in SF need to learn how to space their tables appropriately. Likely wouldn’t go back there again because it was not quiet or romantic. Better suited for just eating not dining.
Best Fillet Mignon I've had in a very long time. Chapeau!
Great service , on the spot with bringing out the food.
The food was great, great presentation. The bread was excellent.
Very clean and timely service.
We are definitely going back,
The food was very good and price are outstanding. The Owner is super nice and courtous. we brought two wines and owner ask if we wanted two glasses to do side by side tasting with the food, they have an dish with some homemade sausage delicous, we ask the owner if they were homemade, the owner send out four more pcs with bread for us to enjoy, i tell you not much resturant will do so, let along a busy one. The actual service is just fair. I would go back because of the owner and he's food.
This is one of San Francisco’s little gems. The owners maintain an active engagement in the dining room and could not be more gracious as hosts. And the food is consistently delicious. We have returned time and again over many years, and will continue to do so!
This was the best meal we’ve had in a long time pre and post Covid. Superbly conceived and executed food. The owners, Phillippe and Helene, work the restaurant floor with warmth and efficiency and care. We’ll go back again and again
Tables were too close together at this stage of the pandemic. This increased noise as well as making us slightly nervous about potential exposure to covid.
Excellent service and delicious classic French Bistrot home cooking.
Owner/chef welcomes guests warmly and provides individualized attention. Very upbeat atmosphere. Food outstanding!
GREAT SERVICE AND TASTY FOOD.
ate inside which was a bit noisy
street parking free after 6pm
Nice staff, but I don’t know what all the online “fuss” is about as far as positive reviews/ ratings. The space has zero ambiance/ charm - awful bright lighting, bland decor, and no romantic or artistic touches (not even table cloths on tables) - and the food was mediocre AT BEST. They offer a very limited menu, but we tried 3 starters, 2 entrees & a dessert and found them all unremarkable - rather bland, lacking in flavor or creativity & boring. Chapeau definitely does NOT live up to its (obviously inflated) ‘reputation’ & absolutely NOT worth the prices $$$! Feel like I wasted a night out in the city & $200+ on a very forgettable meal & experience.
Absolutely wonderful restaurant, service and delicious food. Highly recommend this for everything from
Casual dinner out to a special celebration. Phillip and his staff make you feel right at home.
as usual always pleased with the service and the food. and most of it all, Phillippe always maintained a welcoming spirit
Excellent food. The owner and Ellen are so friendly and welcoming
Food was very good and service was excellent as always.
Delicious food. Owner chef very friendly. Will definitely be back.
Chapeau went above and beyond with my party. The chef gave me a special treatment with a desert out of the menu which was a blast! We definitely had a great time. The food there is amazing and I highly recommend the restaurant.
The food is delicious! And the service is both excellent and very warm. The owner and his wife are present, making sure that everyone is happy and satisfied with their meal. They know many regulars and are very welcoming to new customers. Eating at Chapeau is a very enjoyable experience from start to finish.
The service at this restaurant is exquisite. Unfortunately the cassoulet was very disappointing. It consisted of very dry duck and a couple of pieces of sausage and the rest was white beans. The filet mignon however was excellent as were the escargot.
Absolutely amazing food and atmosphere. Highly appreciated!!!
