It’s was freezing cold inside. The service was mediocre. They advertised $65 per person pre fix but bill came to $275. Hated it
Great food and service, but inside the restaurant was extremely cold. We knew the fog would be in, and came armed with ski jackets and liners, but the sole curtain between the outside and inside was usually had a one to two gap to enable the servers to take care of the diners sitting outside in the parklet. So my advice is to really bundle up when dining at Chapeau! when the weather forecast is for fog-- as it frequently is, this being San Francisco -- and the restaurant is still using the parklet for some outdoor dining.

Great layout for outdoor dining but my table at the end did not feel any heat from the heat lamp. Other than that, delicious food worth having again and again.
We had a great night at Chapeau . Philippe has been baking his own bread since the pandemic started which was awesome
I had bouillabaisse which was delicious
Great food and great service. We will be visiting again.
Everthing at Chapeau was perfect! After a warm welcome we sat our table . The cocktels were really good but the food was superb. We had onion soup and one of their salads, and then filet and seafood cacerole.
Everything was cooked to perfection, we will repeat for sure!
The fish soup was ok but two expensive. One sacalop and $45. This is not fair.
The food was incredible, highlighted with Chef introducing himself and walking through how he crafts everything in-house. Problem was that they had the front and back doors open when it was extremely windy and 45 degrees outside, so it was absolutely freezing in the restaurant. Really took away from the ambiance but we ordered some drinks and warm entrees to try to battle the weather.
Great food and service here. I will be returning soon.
This is my husband's and my favorite San Francisco restaurant. We have been coming here for years for special occasions. With Phillipe Gardelle and his family all working there reminded one of a being in a small bistro in France, they are, after all French! Food is consistently excellent and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. Phillipe and his wife make sure they make contact with all their diners to welcome them to Chapeau. This was our first outing since the beginning of Covid, and there were still restrictions as to the number of diners and the amount of air circulation. With no cloths on the tables, and diners spread wide apart, the sound resonated rather loudly in the space. Because it was a cold windy day outside, with the windows and doors open, it was quite chilly in there, as well Despite that, one can see how he managed to survive in this financial climate that has been so hard on restauranteurs. He is a superb manager and an outstanding chef. Bravo to the hardworking and resourceful Gardelle family and their staff.
We had a great time celebrating a friend getting a new job! The atmosphere was fantastic and even though they were lacking servers, we never felt like the service was lacking.
Good food. But they were short one waiter that night.
I went there with my friend for a dinner. We ordered 3 courses meal and spent 2 hours there. The food was great and the owner was nice. I highly recommend this restaurant.
We had an amazing experience. The service was warm and friendly, the food awesome and the ambiance perfect. Look forward to returning soon.
My first time here and it was delicious! Limited indoor dining but still chilly due to proper ventilation...dress warm. We had the trio of salmon, escargot, ratatouille, and cassoulet....flavors and presentation point.
Good service, good food
We had a fabulous dining experience under the Covid conditions. We were able to dine indoors though the door had to remain open for the outdoor diners. So we and the servers were a bit cold. None the less, our pork tenderloin and filet mignon entrees were done perfectly as were our onion soup and escargots. We were celebrating our 60th Anniversary. Our server, Anatoli, was personable and excellent. Our anniversary was noted at the profiterole dessert. We also had a bottle of Bordeaux wine and cappuccinos_________a most enjoyable evening.
Great food but very expensive, especially the wine
The ambience of this restaurant was so nice! I really enjoyed myself and all the five star food!
Food was excellent. Unfortunately, service was lacking.
Una noche llena de excelente servicio, sabores que enamoran desde el principio, una carta de vinos extensa, enamorada del lugar !
It was too cold sitting outdoors to fully enjoy our birthday dinner.....
This is a nice neighborhood restaurant. The food is always outstanding and the staff is very friendly.
Best French restaurant I have been in San Francisco
Service was amazing and so was the food!
The owner is great and makes sure you feel welcomed. The whole staff was attentive and caring. One of my favorites.
The best French restaurant in the bay area. Snail and duck confit are so good.
Delicious meal! Staff take great care to ensure you have a good experience.
Great vibe. Great 3 course menu. Excellent wine selection. Use QR code for menu. Outdoor dining
Birthday dinner reservation. Waited to be seated. Nonchalant servers. There was a bit of a chill in the air sitting outside. Noticed lit heat lamps on both sides of our socially distanced table. The one heat lamp by/for/at our table was not lit. Asked our waiter to please turn it on and got response to wait he will check with the owner/manager first. Surprised by the response moved on with our wine order. Had a good wine I enjoyed. They sold out of it. The escargot appetizer was good. Everything else felt heavy and french mixed with other cultural influence. If you are looking for Parisian style cuisine this is not the place. This restaurant is more country cooking style. Simple on presentation, rich and heavy entrees. The second waiter that took over serving us seemed more cheerful. Maybe it was an off night.
El menú es muy reducido, los escargots fríos del centro, el filet mignon muy rico, el lugar dentro de restaurant con mesas y sillones viejos y descuidados, limpieza ok, los meseros no son muy atentos para dar un servicio acorde a los precios que manejan. No lleno mis expectativas.
The food is consistently delicious, with just the right amount of seasoning and, surprisingly during Covid, was warm when it arrived at my table. The wait staff were knowledgable about wine pairings and very attentive. We will definitely go back!
Chapeau is one of our favorite restaurants. Always consistently excellent food and service.
Great meal. Noisy group next to us. But it was a birthday celebration. I understand.
Delicious meal! Highly recommend!
Ambiance could be improved but Owner is very friendly and helps with the wine and every dish is scrumptious!
It was lovely to get the choice to sit inside socially distanced though their outdoor space was very well done as well. Appreciated the polite and attentive service from the staff and chef himself, especially for the kind gesture to celebrate our anniversary. Delicious food. Wish the menu had more entree options for vegetarians but still managed to find delicious items. Very nice thank you.
Consistently has great service and food. Always a pleasure.
Chapeau! is more than hanging in there during what will hopefully be the winding down of the pandemic. A friend and I dined there to celebrate his birthday, and had a table outside the windows of the establishment. This was away from the heatlamps, and SF is not the ideal setting for outdoor dining in March, but we were prepared.
The cocktails were tasty -- shoutout for the mojito! We split an order of escargot, and enjoyed their delightful dinner rolls...this was before setting into the pork loin and parsnip puree, and finishing with opera torte (chocolate layers).
The waitstaff were all gracious and careful, and in sum it was a very civilized experience.
Ate outside. Was very cold but so nice to be dining again and we dressed for it.
Food was amazing. Right Bank bordeaux was out of this world delicious.
