This was honestly one of my best meals in the city. Food was exceptional and service was too notch. Highly recommend this fantastic restaurant. Peking Duck and steamed fish were highlights but all food was great.
Peking Duck was outstanding - some of the crackling was completed right before you. Service was somewhat slow and a little bit inattentive but the quality of the dishes made up for it. The views from restaurant along with its decor made for a very enjoyable evening. Highly recommended.
We like the dinner set, especially the roasted beijing duck.
Awesome place to eat with a beautiful view to top it off. The duck is obviously great, but don't be afraid to give their other dishes a try too as they are all really good (I like their lychee prawns alot).
Fabulous deck overlooking False Creek. We had the good fortune to enjoy one of those evenings were it stayed warm until we left at 10. The food was excellent, the service attentive but unhurried. Our group of 6 had an outstanding meal. Will definitely be back.
This is a restaurant needs you to finish your food in a short period of time. I spent about $500 but need to swallow all the dishes within 2 hours. Luckily I wasn’t late in returning the table to the restaurant as I was reminded time and time again by the restaurant manager. The restaurant manager did a thorough job! Well done! The food was not bad as a FAST FOOD restaurant but surely an expensive one!
Best Chinese restaurant I have been to so far in British Columbia. And I have lived here since 1993.
Very good quality food, will definitely dine in again
Booked the round table a week ago. Ended up they gave it to the group in front of us. Dinner began with a bad start.
Pre-ordered the duck. Not the first time having it. Nothing special. Not worth the $90 price point. Especially if you want them to cook the carcass, you need to pay extra money.
Appetizer ordered the smoked fish and qing style fish maw. The former was good but the latter was so-so. Also had the porker belly slider; had better ones for a lower price located on kingsway/Joyce.
Mains were rack of lamb, truffle with beef tendon, stir fry lychee prawns, and sauteed pea tip with garlic.
Lamb was okay but came cold. The tendon was overcooked and became pieces of goo. The best were the lychee prawns and the veggie, which were average for the price.
I think the worst was the wagyu fried rice. I don't know if they actually added oil into stir frying the rice, but if they were actually using wagyu, then that is really unnecessary. Every bite I took, it's just super oily. I think that dish can be split into 5 bowls. But I had 1/3 of a bowl and I couldn't eat it anymore.
For dessert, had the red bean cake and durian milk cake. Red bean cake I could hardly find any red bean. The durian milk cake taste like soured milk.
Sorry but my tab came out to be $550 (tax and tips included) for 5 person and it's definitely not worth it.
Fantastic food and superb service
My daughter had birthday dinner there. We love the foods and fantastic services. Everyone was nice and she really had great evening. Highly recommended!
We will definitely go back in the nearly future. Hopefully we can get the patio next time :)
No doubt the roasted duck is the best in metro Vancouver. Other dishes are also tasty, we ordered beef, chicken, fish, tofu. The restaurant’s location is awesome, harbor view and easy parking. The price is a little bit high but worthy for value. If you love roasted duck and northwest style Chinese food, highly recommended.
The food was amazing and the ambiance was the same. The waterside views made the experience so much better.
Fantastic Patio with a great view with delicious food!
Wonderful food and excellent service!
Patio was very comfortable on a cooler night with heaters and we were offered blankets too.
The duck was amazing.... 3 courses - Crispy skin, meat with pancakes, then we had the bones fried with cumin. We ordered bok choy on the side - was more than enough for 2, we brought food home with us.
Service and food are good as usual. Because of patio seating due to covid, it was very cold and windy even though the heater was on, we could not feel the heat. So we have to rush to finish our meal and packed most of the food home because it was really cold.
Great atmosphere just food is a bit spicy for me but i like small plates...service is not that great for an expensive looking place that should be improve. U want to make people feel their money is worth it for food service and the whole experience. Then they will want to tip more and remember this place.
The duck is a MUST try if you have a chance to visit this amazing restaurant! The service was okay, but not above expectation. Side note: if you would like to seat next to the window, please tell them first when you make the reservation.
Everything was delicious and service was excellent
Food was good, value is low compared to the price they charge. We were charged about $700 for lunch for 5 adults for meal that normally cost about 200-300 for same level restaurant. Food was tasty but definitely not worth $700. I would give 5 star if they charged $200. The scenery is definitely not worth $500 extra dollar.
Everything was good except for the hot and sour soup.
Nice place for occasions. The view is great and so is the food. If you want to taste the roast duck, you need to call to reserve.
Love this place!
Well the roasted duck we pre-ordered was fabulous! But we really wanted to try many other dishes. Nobody ever came by to take our food order. We did ask about a few dishes but then our server just walked away. That was a wrap so we just left once we finished the duck. Beautiful location and maybe great for a special event, I just wish our service was better and that we could've explored more of the menu.
Wonderful experience at Chang An - food was fantastic and service was excellent. Must try the peking duck and green beans with eggplant. So delicious!
We went to this restaurant on Christmas Day (2020) expecting to have a fine dining experience. Well, they offered a fine dining price, but not a fine dining experience. As soon as we were seated at our table, we noticed our table cloth have holes, my chair was wobbly, and it was too hot inside the restaurant. I had to ask one of the the server to turn the heat down as Sweat rundown my back while I was eating. Service and food were good, but not great. I’ve had better food at Neptune (Marine Dr). I was disappointed. I expected more from this restaurant.
Food is fantastic, particularly Beijing Duck. Great attention to detail. Strong safety measures meant we could relax and enjoy spectacular dishes and enjoy ourselves.
Kids at another table screaming and it was ignored by the staff.
Nice combination of Cantonese and Eastern China cuisine. Cozy place and attentive staff.
Roasted Duck was great!
Tried two other dishes — pea tips and spicy noodles — which were mostly average.
Servers were very polite, and all of them (including the table side duck chef) were wearing masks.
Temperature check was needed before entering the restaurant.
Parking is free — they’ll give you a pass to put on the dash.
Good food. Nice atmosphere
They shouldn’t take the reservation if they are closing in 30min. The beef wasn’t cooked, soup was too salty and served with a metal spoon (which could burn the lips when it’s too hot). Overall very disappointed because I used to go there very often before the pandemic.
Father’s Day, the duck is must try.
We had a great time and loved the duck!
Food is not good as I expected, but the service really good, foods need to improve
Nice view, good food. Only thing is they give only two hrs time limit for each reservation
We had the Christmas fixed menu and were delighted with the array of delicious courses. Service was very attentive.
Excellent service, beautiful restaurant, and the best Duck in Vancouver. However, the Christmas Day menu seems very overpriced. The duck is only $99 which I believe is worth every dollar. However, the other dishes are $210. and it was just mushrooms, noodles, soup, rice, and dessert. Although they did taste good, they didn’t seem to be worth $210 to me, as the ingredients used were low cost (noodles, mushroom, bread, pork). I would suggest to offer better quality dishes with the duck. Thank you
The Christmas set dinner menu is definitely worth a try. Food was delicious and portions are generous.
