Chance Asian Bistro & Bar Ratings and Reviews
We are a family of four. Two of us got entrees timely. 15-20 minutes go by. We ask what happened to the other two entrees. Only THEN did the restaurant begin to cook the other two entrees. It was a Monday night, early enough that there were few other customers. Yet the service was incredibly clueless. Ultimately, the food was good enough.
I had dinner at Chance's before and I loved the food so I decided to make reservations there for my friend's birthday this past Saturday. I made a reservation for 8:30, my friends and I arrived at about 8:25. One of the waiters told us 15 minute wait which I thought was weird since we made reservations but I just sat at the bar and waited....and waited....and waited. By the time 9pm rolled around I was ready to scream. Just when I was about to ask about the hold up I saw the same waiter seat a party of 5 that came about 20 minutes after us. I complained to the manager who told us he was sorry and we'd be seated right away (which was another 15 minutes). We would have gone to another restaurant but on a Saturday night without a reservation, that would have been another waiting game. I can't even comment on the food because the service and attentiveness was absolutely disgusting. I won't be coming back here again.
The food here is extremely delicious and the service was very quick. The portion sizes are filling coming from a guy that eats a lot and are definitely a good value. The location is great and has a dark kind of candle lit vibe going on and is great for a date night or even a casual night out with friends. Definitely recommend and will be attending again in the future.
Service was very bad. Waitress didnt understand what we were ordering, had to repeat 3x's, and then the bill took a good 15 minutes for them to pick up and bring back. As we had been there over an hour and a half, should of been a 45 minute escapade.
Theres another sushi place down the block that is so much better and half the price, super better. Service there is also personable and impeccable.
Chance was recommended to me by a bellman at the Marriott Hotel at the Brooklyn Bridge a couple of years ago while I was visiting. Every year when I am in Brooklyn we have to make this one of our MUST stops for a great meal. The food is always fresh and delicious, wait staff are very attentive and the ambience is relaxing.
I went to Chance for my birthday and it was horrible. The service was poor and there was no heat. My friend had to eat while wearing her coat. The bar tender was flirting and taking shots while we were waiting for our drinks. The waiters messed up our orders more than once, and there was only one other table occupied. The waiters never inquired as to how we were doing, and only addressed our table when they were summoned. Not a good experience at all.
This is my second time frequenting this establishment. I have zero complaints. The service is always friendly. The food is always delectable. The atmosphere is always just right. I enjoyed my mussels appetizers (the sauce is out of this world) and pad thai with shrimp (I got huge portions of both). I loved my ginger mimosa with real ginger in it. My gf had the pomegranate mimosa, scallion pancake, and chicken fried rice. She was equally satisfied with her dishes.
The hospitality was out of this wold. Thanks very much.
This was my second time visiting Chance Bistro. The first time I had went during the day and I was the only one there. The food was delectable and the service was exceptional, very quick. This time around there was a group of 10. I expected the same sort of service this time around, but was very disappointed. I'm not sure if my server was new or just very exhausted but my night was pretty much a mess (we ordered a few things and some of the orders weren't even placed) and the service was SLOW! Eventually when we got our food and drinks we were VERY pleased. I'd recommend going on an off peak day (not the weekend) as it is a small, quaint spot. Drinks are nice and strong though :-)
I've given Chance a lot of chances over the years, always hoping that their idea of a fusion between China and France will amount to something. What it amounts to, alas, is French prices and pacing -- high and slow, respectively -- for fairly ordinary Asian-fusion fair. The food is fine, but not especially exciting.
There is NO Heat in this restaurant in the winter. We were sitting in our jackets during our entire dining experience. The food is fine; nothing special. The service is confusing as we had 4 different wait staff coming and going and nobody knew our order. I ordered the Chilean sea bass. I specifically asked TWICE "not spicy". They brought out the opposite what I asked for. They apologized and said we will make you a new one. It took approx 20 addt'l minutes. They brought out a "new" sea bass (NOT) as it was the same fish and SPICY. They must of made several attempts to smear off the sauce from the "old" sea bass but it was SOAKED in the spicy sauce already. Conclusion: Do NOT waste your time and money.
had a celebratory ( birthday) family dinner on a snowy blustery evening. Ate early so crowds and noise were not an issue. Food was excellent, including a plate of starters that the staff combined for all to share, fish and duck main courses. With no fuss, the staff also agreed to serve a birthday cake we brought from home, and added scoops of their own excellent ice cream in several flavors.
I am delighted to say that although I've eaten take out from Chance before in the far past, sitting down to eat with my Mom was a treat.
I ordered my typical Pad Thai with shrimp while my mom ordered the ginger chicken. The portions were sizeable. The appetizers, mussels, the rock shrimp tempura, and summer doing rolls were all delicious. I also had the lychee martini. Yum.
The hospitality was precise and the atmosphere was very friendly. We had two wait staff and both were attentive. For dessert we had the creme brûlée and the green tea fried icecream. We left happy.
I have only accolades to speak of for Chance, and I'd surely return to try the mango tini.
The food is very good as it has been for some time. However, they should not offer reservations because they do not operate as if a reservation has any meaning. We had reserved for a party of 3 and when we arrived we were asked to wait at the bar while our table was readied. There was at least one table available and visible and as we sat and waited another couple strolled in and simply sat down at the available table. We continued to wait until another table became available and were ultimately seated. The food is good as it always has been but just walk in! A reservation means nothing and actually hurts the restaurant because a customer with a reservation is likely to be annoyed as were we.
