Champions - Kendall Square Ratings and Reviews
Have had several business meetings at Champions for clients staying at the Marriott. Good buffet and servers are very pleasant eager to make your experience pleasant. Since it's a big space, you can find tables for quiet/private conversations, or to host a group. Menu has something for everyone. Offers a discount to MIT employees/students.
Three of us were happy with the food but burger (for the fourth person) which was supposed to be well done was rare. Service was excellent. Our server changed a few times and they were very good about communicating this to us. Great location. Pleasant ambience.
Part of the Boston Marriott in Cambridge, they have a large selection of beers on tap. It's a sports bar, so lots of tvs. Food is fresh and locally sourced. The fresh fish was surprisingly good, apparently they have a real chef. Wasn't expecting that at a sports bar.
Went for the Patriots playoff game and surprised to see it so quiet and empty. Odd since when I tried to reserve a table for the game on OpenTable they said they didn't have availability at the time I wanted, yet when I arrived at that time the restaurant was EMPTY and there were only 2 or 3 reserved signs on tables. The food was okay, nothing amazing, but what else would you expect at a sports' bar. Missed the opening kickoff and first few plays because no one thought to change the TV's and sound after the first game had ended on a different channel. So while the Pats were starting their playoff game. They restaurant was watching the news for about 5 minutes. The only reason I'd go back is because I know now that I could at least get a table last minute.
I have been to this restaurant twice. First time with my wife and this time with my friends for a drink. We ordered only appetizers, fried calamaris, chicken wings, green bean fries, and hummus, and beers. No surprise, all appetizers were very good (see my other reviews); soft calamaris, lightly fried green beans, warm pitas with hummus but little tough texture wings. I chose this restaurant for two reasons. We do not need to shout for the conversation and have a good selection of beers. Other pub restaurants in Kendall are way too crowded on Friday evening and you have to shout. If you want to enjoy your drinks and conversations with your friends, I highly recommend this restaurant.
It is part of the Marriott that is next door in the MIT area. This place was very casual and very loud. They had a trivia kind of thing going on with a guy on a speaker system throwing questions out to the whole restaurant to answer to win prizes. It was annoying since we had not known about this and came just to have a casual dinner. The chicken tenders are the frozen kind, the guacamole is the kind that comes out of a bag. Nothing is freshly prepared. I would not go back.
Overall, I was never a fan of "hotel" food. Champions is making me rethink that old adage.
Onion soup made with stout was excellent (not a salty/prepared broth); chicken skewers were tasty and I also used the dipping sauce on the greens (arugula?). One friend had the Black & Blu Burger w/onion rings and raved (over a burger!). Great combination of flavors in my salad - Grilled BBQ Chicken w/apples.
While we sat at the bar, there was a large group enjoying (not TOO loudly) college hoops on TV in the lower dining area.
Will definitely return, maybe even to watch a game on TV, and in any case plan on trying more delicious food!
They have a breakfast buffet that is quite good. In addition to the items on the buffet, they will make to order waffles, French toast, or pancakes.
The price is reasonable - $18.00 - at least $5.00 less than anything you will find in Boston.
What really makes this such a good place is the service - the staff couldn't be nicer - go out of their way to make sure that you are well taken care of.
Champions has good food but it's a bit on the expensive side for what it is - essentially upscale bar food. The sandwiches are particularly good - especially the Turkey Reuben - and the french fries excellent. It's very conveniently located near the Kendall Square T station so if you just need something you know will be right there then it's a decent choice. The service ranges from fairly mediocre to quite excellent, usually landing somewhere around decent. I have had comments before from staff about being a solo diner who didn't want to sit at the bar, but at my most recent visit there was another solo dinner and no one gave either of us a hard time.
Champions inside the Cambridge Marriott has gone through major renovations. No longer a dark, dingy sports bar, now a clean and modern space. Food is okay. Service about the same. If you need a place for meeting someone in Kendall Square, this would be fine.
My boyfriend has never walked along the Charles river along 3A and Friday night I had to change that. I figured we could go on a romantic walk and then get dinner nearby. I saw on Google maps before leaving work that day, there there was a Champions Sports bar & Grill right near Kendall/MIT which was perfect! It was right next to the Mariott hotel and had nice open patio/courtyard area with high tables, low tables, and even Couches! I was shocked because for a Friday night at 7pm, there was NO ONE there. We got to sit ANYWHERE we wanted, so we chose a high top outside since it was nice. Great Food, Cheap Beer, Excellent Service, Great Atmosphere. I enjoyed the Chicken sandwich with guacamole and my boyfriend enjoyed the Rueben. WILL BE BACK
Myself, my husband and his sister, had a great dinner!
She stayed the night at Marriott. And is also a Marriott employee from CA.
We all met up (in the quieter area on the left just before the bar section.) It was perfect...we could relax and talk. The wait staff we had were wonderful and we had a very nice visit!!!!
I have been at this place many time, however last time was a disappointment. We went to watch a soccer game but the tv volume was so low that it was like seing the game in a library. Then our waitress ( a lady in her 50s) was very unfriendly and did not care much about our table.
You get in and get out. Service is timely, accurate and always very friendly. No complaints ever about the food; its done right and as requested. One person in our party said that the shrimp and bacon salad was excellent; very fresh and crisp. Seasoning is always right here, nothing sharp or strong just right. Drinks are refilled promptly. Quiet service and bright room makes it a convenient location for a casual business lunch.
