Chambers Eat + Drink Ratings and Reviews
It is a beautiful space but the food is surprisingly underwhelming. I specifically asked for the octopus dish without chorizo and the waitress brought me chorizo. She apologized for the kitchen's mistake but then the fish dish was incredibly bland. Again, she apologized but I do not think I will return.
The food was good however the service was awful. Our waiter was in a rush and abrupt. I asked if we could get the Brussels sprouts with less oil and he sarcastically replied “they’re fried”. He wasn’t happy with the questions we had regarding the menu and he showed it. The food was good but I wouldn’t go back for dinner. The music and ambiance were fantastic.
I loved Chambers. The staff are super nice, the menu is small, but with a great variety of inventive tapas and bigger plates that pair well together and with the cocktail, beer and wine menus. They are very upfront about asking about dietary considerations and I have no doubt that the kitchen would be able to cater to any special requirements. The only issue was the long pause in between the two orders of tapas dishes that we ordered - which was only an issue because we had to make it to the Symphony. However, as soon as they knew we were in a hurry the staff were on it and expedited the orders and made sure we were out the door on time.
While the hotel and restaurant has a hip vibe appearance online, the deco appears worn and tired once there. Unfortunately, the neighborhood doesn't help - some basic cleaning and sprucing up around the hotel and restaurant with a security would make a better impression. I really wanted to like this retro little place, but there was too many basic things amiss. We went for Sunday brunch and had soft scrambled eggs, as indicated on the menu the potatoes were crisp and brown but raw in the middle. Very little scrambled eggs - which had small chunks of semi-raw carrots and broccoli . The so called Souffle pancake could best be described as a mound of thick, baked custard dotted with blue berries and caramelized pieces of apple, with Green Tea ice-cream (what happened to the Maple ice-cream?) really disappointing unless you like custard. Even the fresh squeezed orange juice seemed watered down with no flavor.
I've eaten here numerous times in the past and have come to enjoy it very much. Unfortunately, this visit was way under par and makes me second guess ever returning or recommending to friends. Had to ask for things a few times, one starter was forgotten, as was soy milk for our French press. I'm gonna chalk it up to a quiet Sunday after thanksgiving where I'm sure everyone just wished they were home and vertical, but when you are one of two tables in the joint, you'd think better service would come from the 8 servers, bussers, and staff hanging out chatting and laughing at the bar station.
We arrived for Sunday brunch. Not alot of selections but the eggs Benedict was spot on and the veggie option was really tasty. Beautiful decor, nice and cozy, great music and great service. The only reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is the lack of an espresso machine.. drip coffee only. Other than that it was really good.
I had the potbelly, deliciously pared with a great asian sauce and crispy seaweed.
All staff was great, but our server was delightful and checked with at the right times.
I will always come back with different friends and enjoy anything from casual to cozy..
Love your gardens.
What a fun atmosphere! Our Uber drop in the middle of the Tenderloin at a black building made the cozy setting inside the doors all the more surprising. The friendly staff took care of us quickly as soon as we alerted them to a pending curtain time for theater. Love the poolside cabana and can't wait to return for more fun food!
Our reservation was for 7 but the table wasn't quite ready so we grabbed a drink at the bar. At 7:40 we still hadn't been seated. I think they forgot about us and this seemed to be supported when open table followed up the best day indicating we hadn't shown up. The hostess didn't even apologize for the delay. The rest of the staff was good and so was the food.
We had no idea what we were in for ,knowing this was in the heart of the SF Tenderloin. Pretty dicey area and that, coupled with the very unassuming front door, had us completely flabbergasted when we walked into the awesome and unique environment! Great lighting, great service, and the FOOD! wow! (I ordered a second round of the Brussel sprouts so I could take them home to my b.f. Absolute THE best Brussel Sprouts I/we've ever tasted... ANYWHERE! SUPER FUN bar environment. What a find!
Yesterday my friend and I checked in for my birthday. We had never been before and we are non drinkers but were able to get a virgin cocktail which was absolutely delightful! We had an amazing time and we loved the decor and music selection. I ordered ribs and my friend ordered fish I enjoyed the seasoning obln both however, I liked my friends dish better. They had a ton of selections for wine. It's low lit and cozy!
Chambers Eat + Drink was amazing! The outside appearance doesn’t look like much but the inside has GREAT decor & ambiance. There are vinyl records flanking the walls ago with dim lighting and a live DJ. The service was on point. The speciality drinks were very tasty with fun names. I had a drink called ‘a charmed life’ finished with Champagne & Juniper berries. I loved it! The food was amazing. Definitely order the fried Brussel sprouts. These were the best Brussel sprouts I ever had.
A jewel in the midst of a rather scary neighborhood. Close to theatre, read great reviews, so gave it a try 9-14-17 and found it to be as entertaining as the show later! Fun decore, fusion fantastic food, great service with Darren and extrodinary cocktail concoctions! 😉
The 2 only negatives would be the fact that the host wasn't at the host desk to greet us and we waited a few mins to get acknowledge by anyone and from the menu we oredere the chicharrones and they tasted like chicharrones you buy ar store that come in a bag, not what I was expecting at the scale this restaurant measures. Our server Jessie was AMAZING! Apart from the chicharrones drinks, food, desert was an explision of flavors. I would definitely go back.
Special cocktails just ok. Food needs work. Tries to hard to be Asian fusion, but the fusion doesn't really work that well in a lot of dishes. Pork belly appetizer didn't work with seaweed. Too briney. Potato & Marinara sauce was ehh. Sauce uninspired. Main courses just OK, but not memorable.
It was the Mixologi party, so I completely understand how the spike in business would slow things down some - and perhaps you were understaffed - but I waited at the bar for over 20 minutes and never even had my drink order taken, it took my friend 25 minutes to even close her tab. Then when we were seated, after our server took our drink order, drinks took another 20ish minutes. We sat and watched several other 2-tops have their drink orders taken and drinks brought to them promptly - mind you, me and 2 others in my party-of-5 are lifelong bartenders and 4/5 of us are lifer-restaurant people in general. We know the deal. At any rate, the food and drinks were mostly good, just the wait time on everything was excruciating (with no acknowledgement of it - recognition/ an apology goes a very long way, so it felt like no one cared)- and both my girlfriend & I had items missing on our brunch plates - hers was supposed to have seasonal veggies, but came with a mixed green salad instead (which she diappointedly ended up not even eating), my "poached eggs" were mostly hard boiled. We're not complainers, and we were starving, so we ate, and moved on with our day - but also for fear that if we sent our food back, the replacement plates may not arrive for another half hour. This is the 4th or 5th year in a row we've eaten at Chambers before Mixologi - it's become a tradition amongst some of us - which is why I'm even writing. And for a festive event day like this last Sunday, brunch at Chambers was definitely a low point.
Went for the first time with the family (daughters are ~20 yrs. old) and loved the atmosphere with vinyls stacked all over and rock/pop playing I the background. Not too loud, just perfect. Very good service, we were going to see a show, and nice walking distance from SF Orpheum (10 minutes). Eclectic food and, I think, a bit pricey for the quality and amount, check the menu. Overall good experience. Would probably be an awesome happy hour experience vs. just a good overall experience for dinner.
Food was good, service was fair, he seemed distracted and not very attentive. Liked the ambiance. The neighborhood was dicy, lots of homeless on the street, rather smelly. Would have uncomfortable after dark. My wife was more concerned than I was and she was disappointed I had selected the location I did. And for an anniversary dinner this was not a good thing. The reviews exceeded our experience.
I love this spot! Less than ideal experience this time due to the hostess. We had a reservation, but ended up being 10 minutes late. I tried to call, but no one answered the phone. Once we checked in, the hostess kept us waiting over 20 minutes. At one point as she walked by I went to ask her a question - she said she'd be right with me, then never came back. We had to approach her again after another 10 minutes of waiting. They weren't very busy for Sunday brunch. There were ample tables outside and in (we requested outside). Once we were finally seated, the server was great. The food was good. I'll come back, but really hope they improve their guest experience.
