Located in Vancouver, Canada, Chambar serves Belgian cuisine in a chic, rustic setting with warm decorative lighting and exposed brick walls. Owners Karri and Nico Schuermans, along with Executive Chef Tia Kambas created an atmosphere where guests can enjoy a fine dining experience in comfort. Its breakfast menu features the popular Liège waffles with a choice of sweet toppings. Chambar's lunch service offers daily pasta made with seasonal ingredients, fresh salads and other tasty fare. Dinner entrées of calamari stuffed with veal, spiced foie gras or braised lamb with almond couscous will please the palate.
Chambar also has its own ale that was created for pairing with meals. It sponsors fundraisers, welcomes reservations and hosts events for large groups. Brunch is served on the weekend and can be enjoyed on the outdoor patio.
Chambar is always a great experience.
This was by no means a new find for us. My wife and I have been going to Chambar since it opened. The food and service are always excellent. The menu has been consistent, but the few changes and additions have also been appreciated. It's always a great dining experience.
Even though we had a reservation beforehand, we were left to wait at the drafty corner of the restaurant for at least 20 minutes, and the reception was just as drafty. It gets a bit better once we were seated, as the service as prompt and a bit too scarce. It's too busy around here!
The food was fantastic, I'd recomend the lamb and the venison. Make sure you drink a beer at this restaurant.
Over all quick service and food, very well done.
Food was awesome as usual, service exceptional, we love how they pair the beer with the food, not just the wine. Great suggestions from the server on both wine and beer and they were perfect each time. Let them surprise you, it's great fun! Go early if you want quiet otherwise the noise, delicious smells and energy make for a great evening.
Appetizers and a meal is very filling, we shared and it was perfect as we noticed other tables doing as well.
Excellent prior to a play or sports event, let them know and they will make it happen.
Was 20 mins late seating us due to the very busy night. Was initially sat at a table that should only fit 2 but they eventually moved us to 2 tables when they opened up as the food and drink glasses would never have fit. The rib eye steak was comped due to the over doneness even though it was eaten up!
Our server was amazing, got creme brule out for desert even though it wasn't on the menu. The mussels are to die and the french fries are some of the best I've tasted.
The place was packed and very energetic with people having a great time eating and drinking.
?recession? I don't think so!
Will go back for sure.
Very loud but totally bearable. Admirably attentive service considering how busy it is all the time, excellent food, amazing presentation, surprisingly reasonable prices.. would definitely come here again! Be prepared to sit really close to your fellow diners, though it's not really that big of a deal/adjustment.
Awesome little spot - waiter was great - we didn't like the thyroid.
It was my boyfriend's birthday and we were a group of 8 there, the staff were really friendly and the ambiance was very lovely. And we all LOVED the food.
This was my first time at Chambar. I had heard so many great things that I finally decided to give it a try.
Unfortunantly, I left disapointed and don't think I will return.
The service was HORRIBLE. We were seated and nobody came to talk to us for 20mins. Finally once they came, the drinks took another 15 mins. Almost 45 mins with no drinks or service. We also had to request to be moved into the back room, as it was so loud in the main area we couldnt even talk to eachother. I had a headache as soon as I walked it.
The food was VERY good, no complaints what so ever. The mussells in a Tomatoe, currey sauace and poutine were to die for. For the mains we had the Lamb and a fish dish.
The serviced ruined our experience.
The ambience is energetic- The food is good and innovative but the kitchen is beginning to overwork some of the dishes with counterproductive extra layering of flavours
Service was perfunctory, in contrast with previous occasions..
Lastly, my coquilles st.jacques were served with pancetta, not smoked kurobuta pork cheek as described in menu. We were not advised of any substitution when ordering.
I chose not to bring this to their attention at the time because it would have ruined the occasion for my dining partner
I was glad to see more wine choices in the under $60 range
Very good food, very good ambiance and service but very, very noisy
Was surpised to see the jump in entree prices since the last time we were in. I guess popularity gives justification for a $29.00 entree.. I knmow it wasn;t always that way..
My husband and I have eaten several times at Chambar. It used to be great, unfortunately, it seems that chambar has become a trendy restaurant with just good food. Even the desserts were not as good as they used to be. We were disappointed.
The food and service were much more than expected.
Food is horrible, had to go take takeout from another restaurant afterwards. Couldn't eat my $30 entree.
Awesome waiter. Friendly support staff. Great atmosphere. Limited per-glass wine menu. Limited menu but good menu.
Very good food and wine. A little noisy but great to be there.
Maybe our expectations were too high, or maybe we just ordered the wrong things, but while creative, the flavors did not soar as we might have liked. The frites were great, and the mussels very good, though I've had just as good elsewhere. I do take issue with high-end restaurants that charge for a slice of bread - I've seen this in no other city.
The dining room is bright and attractively urban, with an exposed brick wall, and the service friendly and competent.
I have never been to a restaurant where the service was so top-notch. Carl, our server, was great at bringing out our food in a timely matter and ensuring our table was cleared quickly and always clear. He was very friendly but not over-bearing which is extremely hard to find. I never had to flag him down or try to search for him; he innately knew our needs and was always available for us.
The food was delicious and my party and I left very full and satisfied.
Will definitely be coming again :)
We were very pleasantly surprised by the how relaxed we felt at Chambar. We were afraid that we might be rushed due to it's busy nature, but we had a wonderful time and we took all the time we needed to have a really, really excellent dining experience!
This was one of my many visits over the years. I haven't been since last fall, and last Friday night was a very lively scene, bordering on SCENE. One wonders if the SCENE people really appreciate the great food. I'm conerned that Chambar will become more scene oriented and follow the liquor profits and risk losing their origins. So far, the food continues to hold up. I'd prefer to enjoy more of the food/restaurant experience and less of the Blackberry/cell phone poseurs. With only a couple more nights left in my long week-end holiday visit to Vancouver, I chose to go to other restaurants rather than repeat the Scene at Chambar, even though I had originally intended a second visit to Chambar. Too bad.
We arrived 10-15 minutes before our reservation which they had considerable trouble finding. The place was packed and the noise level was approximate to kickoff time at the Super Bowl! We were taken to a table in the back of the place (quieter, but not by much). As we looked over the menu and tried to converse with each other, we found it near-impossible to talk at a conversational level. After 4-5 minutes we gave up and left. That is not what a romantic anniversary dinner should be. Food may be great but as long as the YUCKIES (Young Urban Canadians, Keening) hold the power here, it is only suitable for a quick drink and then eat elsewhere.
Both myself and the person i was with have done fine dining for years...and so we notice everything down to the lint in the corner.
I chose Chambar because i hadn't been for awhile and knew it was one of the best in town. Our server was smooth, intuitive, charming, (well.. was nice looking LOL) and didn't over serve.
we'll be back.
Great selection of beer...
The menu is a bit small but everything is tasty
Excellent restaurant! The staff was very friendly. The food is out of this world! We had "Les tomates artisanales" and "Les amuses bouches d'Escoffier" for appetizers and shared "Moule Frites au Vin Blanc" for main course. Everything tasted amazingly great. We know our way around good restaurants, so I speak from an experience. The mussels portion is very generous, so it's good for two. We had original Belgian mussels in Antwerp, but these are second to none! For dessert my wife had "Chocolat et noisette", which was too sweet to my taste, and I had "Tarte aux griottes" - a mind blowing combination of tart cherries with sweet lemon party cream. I mentioned that it was my wife's birthday, so they treated us to some caramel truffles.
Fantastic ambiance and service, food could be better. Flavors were excellent, though somewhat unidimensional. Fantastic cocktails!
Absolutely delicious food. Some of the best in Vancouver. It can get very noisy, however, onn a weekend night. If you are there for the food, I would head early on the weekdays, not hockey night.
A friend recommended this place and everything was great - easy parking, great food, incredible service. Dandi - not sure about the spelling was our server, and he was brilliant - wow'ed everybody with his familiarity and knowledge of the menu. We were celebrating my birthday and they prepped a beautiful dessert plate. Well done.
Our dinner at Chambar was, in all but one respect, another impressive experience. My only complaint was that I had noted in our reservation through Open Table that it was my wife's birthday on the day we would be there, and though I was not interested in a cake, it would be appreciated if we could have some special attention. A more prominent table, a compliment for my wife from the server, something. Instead we were placed on an aisle, at a small two-person table a foot from another couple. Not quite what I was after. Otherwise, food was wonderful as always, and beverage recommends were right on.
Good service! We really enjoy the Foie gras terrine but the mussels seems to gone down hill a little, tomatoe broth was too acidic. Had bigger and better mussel at Dinning out in January.
Still don't like the idea of paying extra $3 for bread and butter.
Absolutely amazing. Had the foie gras terrine to start. It came with a truffled brioche french toast that was to die for. Absolutely beautiful plates and each mouthful was heaven. The service was fantastic and attentive. They couldn't seat us right away so made sure we could sit in the lounge, and brought us each a glass of champagne to keep us happy. It worked. Lovely lounge, so we were happy to wait.
The food was good ordered a moraccan themed appetizer with lamb and cous cous which was excellent along with mussels along with half the patrons of the restaurant - a must! The artic char entree however left little to be desired. Cocktails were also excellent but the service not so great - it took almost half an hour to get a round of cocktails and we were not warned of the wait...and left with nothing to drink during dinner at one point. Also our waiter was not very knowledgeable (or willing) when it came to food pairings or cocktail suggestions.
We loved our experience at Chambar and will look forward to returning next time we are in Vancouver.
Wonderful food. Great service. We will be back.
Service on this relatively crowded night was excellent and attentive, as always. And the food was first-rate, though an entrecote was a bit gristly. My out-of-town companion was delighted.
Superb food, I will recommend it to friends and business associates.
Great vibe, Attentive service, Good food every time! What else do you need? It was my date's birthday, and the staff was congenial, making him feel welcomed and special. We had a fantastic evening!
We (the six of us) enjoyed our evening,we always do when we come to your Restaurant.
Chambar is our favorite restaurant in Vancouver. We visit Vancouver often as we have a second home there.
The food is superb and is very good value. The mussels are exceptional!
Service is fabulous!
Plan to go on every trip!
