Feast on creative fare at Chalkboard. Its welcoming setting offers a homey atmosphere and a fine dining experience. Chalkboard's Executive Chef Shane McAnelly prepares a variety of seasonal dishes for guests to enjoy that are made from seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. An appetizer of baked kale with mushroom dip, pork belly biscuits or warm pretzels will delight the palate. Guests can dine on an entrée of pappardelle bolognese, roasted octopus or buttermilk fried chicken thighs rosemary red potatoes.
Chalkboard is featured in numerous publications like the San Francisco Chronicle and California Home+Design. It offers wine by the glass or bottle, as well as cocktails and beer. This restaurant features a happy hour and hosts private events.
A gorgeous elegantly casual setting, but the food is the real star. Brilliantly flavored local ingredients in small packages that allow for grazing. Remarkable aesthetic range packed into a relatively compact menu leaves this diner with an appetite for more.
We had an amazing dinner at Chalkboard. It was an anniversary dinner and sparkling wine was ordered ahead of time as a surprise. They did a great job pulling off the surprise. The small plates are great for sharing. Everything we ate was delicious. You can even bring your own wine! PB&J donuts for dessert finished this great meal.
Definitely a meal to remember! Every morsel from the beginning pretzel to the crudo to the pasta was perfect! Best to not forget the desert here!! Our server was exceptional in his recommendations. Thank you for a memorable birthday lunch.
Chalkboard mentioned that they are specialized in homemade pasta. The 6 dish pasta sampler that we ordered were beautifully crafted but the executions had failed my expectation. 3 out of the 6 pastas were under cooked that all 4 of us at our table agreed. Although the server sent one pasta back to be remade, which was cooked right the 2nd time, it failed my expectations for a homemade pasta specialist.
Everything was excellent ... even met Shane M. since he had his culinary career started in our home area. This was not our 1st meal at Chalkboard ...and will continue to support this wonderful gem in Healdsburg.
Beautiful restaurant inside and patio. Excellent fresh food. Very happy with the service. Will return!
Loved the pasta tasting, for a group of 4 it was a perfect amount. Also the fried chicken is worth getting!
All the dishes we ordered were delicious and we ordered several things to share at the table.
Our experience at Chalkboard was outstanding. The craft cocktails were well made, the wine list functional. It is the food that is the reason to come here. The format is "small plate" and meant to be shared. [Fair Warning: the menu that is on their website is old and is not currently representative. The current menu is much more expansive...and the additions make it much better.] Highlights: pork belly biscuits, heirloom tomato salad, grilled Brentwood corn, Old Bay strozzapreti, cocoa trifoglio, and the beef sliders were all excellent. The only real miss that we had was the smoked eggplant which was over-done mush. The ambience of the restaurant is dark and date-worthy and includes some enclosed outdoor seating. This space used to be the fabled Cyrus and Chalkboard, while not at that ethereal level, is a worthy descendent. Their only mistake was to open up the kitchen to the dining room, thus added extra, and useless, noise and chaos to the experience. Still, most of the seating is far enough away from the kitchen for this not to be anything other than an aesthetic consideration. Chalkboard is an excellent restaurant and a must-do for anyone who likes finer dining while they are in wine country. Highly recommended.
I have eaten at Chalkboard many time and it never disappoints. The food is excellent and service is warm and welcoming. This was a big birthday for a friend and she was so pleased to enjoy it at this special restaurant.
Chalkboard a fabulous dining experience. Food, ambiance and craft cocktails winner winner all the way around.
Great restaurant that has a wonderful patio where you can bring your well behaved dog. Loved the prezttzel with beer cheese and the vinegar chicken was mind blowing.
Delightful meal with good attention from server. Perfect evening to enjoy dining with wine prior to touring wineries in the next days.
Small plates menu is interesting, but a challenge on choosing what to pair together.
Visiting the area and looking for small plate venue. Very pleased with Chalkboard. The pasta was not like anything either of us had ever experienced. Wish we lived in the area would eat there often.
Very good food. Server needs more training and the restrooms need to be kept clean throughout the evening.
Chalkboard continues to be a fine place to dine. Having had the cucumber and avocado salad, the fusilli, the Bodega red potatoes, and the fried chicken thighs, all of it was spectacular. Well prepared and succulent in flavors, my friend whose birthday we celebrated, could not stop talking about the food. We enjoyed the Molten chocolate cake and their iconic "candy bar" dessert which were both equally scrumptious. Good and careful servers made our meal comfortable. However, I found it curious that the maitre d, a young woman who appeared no older than eighteen, seated the two of us in the back when the entire main section of the restaurant was open. That seemed an unfortunate choice and perhaps a lapse in training. Millenials take heed. Otherwise, a near-perfect experience.
One of the best meals I've ever had and best wine /dessert ! All exceptional 👍
Tapas style restaurant. The food was fantastic and the Executive Chef has his team running like a well-oiled machine. The action in the kitchen was viewable from our table. While we had one main server, as soon as a plate was up, whatever server was around was there to take it and deliver it to a table anywhere in the dining room. I had the duck confit pasta and it was phenomenal. Menu changes frequently to feature fresh local ingredients.
the pork belly biscuits are most outstanding...chicken very good. Husband did not care for the Panda Punch; I liked the rum and coconut. Our guests tried the craft beers.
The food here honestly was excellent - that's not the problem. I made a reservation on opentable for 1pm, we were finally seated 35 minutes later. Then we had to wait again for someone to bring us water and acknowledge we were even there. It took another 15 minutes to have the waiter greet us and maybe 10 more minutes to get our ordered beverages. What I had hoped would be about an hour experience (we had tasting reservations at area wineries) turned out to be more than two hours in total. The restaurant itself wasn't busy so we are not sure why the delay in pretty much everything we ordered. Again, good food but the service from the time you walk in the door was beyond disappointing.
Wide selection of sumptuous small plates. Everyone loved it.
Outstanding food, lovely courtyard. Service was fine, but not up to what one would expect at such a great restaurant.
Loved the sushi and noodle dishes.
And don't forget the coconut cream pie for dessert.
Sitting outside was very lovely.
We loved our anniversary meal at Chalkboard. Our two cocktails were lovely. We ordered 6 dishes (smallish plates), and each one was great. We began with 2 "shots" of the soup, ordered the signature pork belly biscuits (which were great, but we wished there were only 2 rather than 4 because they were so good we had to eat all 4), a "weeds & greens" salad, grilled corn, the black ink squid gigli pasta with crab (wonderful), and seared tuna. Everything was fresh and perfectly done. But almost better than the food, was our server. She knew every dish, recommended cocktails based on our taste, and the amount of food was just right. Every server should be like her.
Great service and delicious food. Even when they ran out of sliders (favorite ). They graciously comped us the delicious fried chicken. Win win all around
The tapas style food was delicious! We ordered about two tapas plates per person and shared. Each plate was unique and we thoroughly enjoyed all of them. We dined al fresco in the patio area on a beautiful summer evening. Once the temperature started to cool down the outdoor heaters were turned so the temperature was perfect.
This was by far the best meal we had in Healdsburg. Everything was amazing, the service, food, and wine suggestions. Our server shared tips about the area and was charming and helpful. We most definitely recommend Chalkboard!
My wife and I were on vacation and stopped in for lunch before hitting Dry Creek for some wine tasting. Had not heard of the restaurant being from Orange County, bur saw it on Open Table. What a find!!! Tapas style dishes were perfect for us. We had a cucmber and avocado salad, Rye Spaghetti with awesome pieces of pastrami - the most tender I have ever had - amazing beef sliders and fried chicken thighs like you have never had. The meal was a highlight of our trip. We cannot wait to go back. Server was great too! He made excellent suggestions and was on the spot timing wise as we had appointments at the wineries. Unfortunately the receipt does not have his name on it, but I want to say his name was Jimmy. Atmosphere is wine country sheik and very relaxed and enjoyable.Don't think twice about going here! One of the best meals ever.
Delicious, all the food was on point. Will definitely be back.
The food was excellent - especially the stone fruit panzanella salad and octopus. Our waiter was great, too. Will definitely go again.
Menu hard to understand what to order. Interesting flavor profiles, but we did like the pastas. Fresh & unique.
Waiter was uncomfortable so made us feel unrelated.
Haven't been to Healdsburg in a couple years and saw this this restaurant was new and in the location where Cyrus had been. We outside which was very pleasant. Food was very good and would definitely return.
The homemade pasta dishes were fantastic. Our group enjoyed sampling several of them.
Excellent food but the space itself lacks ambiance and the server was erratic. We were
there for a special occasion (birthday) and were presented with a desert menu from which
the guest picked one. On our way out, we see another desert listed on the Chalkboard as
the special. Turns out that desert was our guests favorite but she didn't get to have it.
We arrived for an early reservation but the hostess took us to the worst table in the room
right away so we asked to be reseated which we were. Despite all this, I would go back for the food...it was that good and worth the hour's drive.
This was a special 70th birthday celebration with "old"/best friends. 4 days later and they are still raving about it. We totally pigged out - getting cold soup shooters, salad, fish and the pasta tasting menu! All were amazing..and, while we didn't really have room for dessert, we ordered two to split with 3 people! We waddled out very happy! I wouldn't change a thing!
Are server was t very good. The hostess was gone for 5-10 min. We almost walked out.
easy to make an on-line reservation. Even though it says small plate...there is plenty of food to share their small plate. Loved the lettuce salad and pork belly biscuits. Fried chicken was generous portion and very good. looking forward to trying other menu items.
We came here for our 1 year anniversary after hearing great things about it. Not super romantic but the food was delicious and we enjoyed the trendy atmosphere. Would definitely recommend it to others as it was recommended to us.
Four of us had dinner at Chalkboard on Friday night, and it was wonderful! We were seated on the revamped patio and able to enjoy the perfect evening weather. All of the dishes we shared were excellent, but the Panzenella, Pork & Beans and crudo deserve special mention. The service was spot on (thank you Becca) and our overall experience could not have been better. We are definitely coming back to Chalkboard!
