I mace mixed reviews of this restaurant and here is why. We had a party of 3 and were seated in the middle of the room, despite the multiple tables available. There was a party of 8 seated at the table that seemed to be attached to ours. There is no AC so ,Aubrey that was a blessing in disguise, albeit a loud evening. And there were no guests sitting around the room, just the 9pf us.
The warm to water was served then we were informed they were out of octopus (one of my son’s favorite appetizers) then anything with Brussels sprouts were not available, ahem, like half of their menu. We did end up having a delicious meal in this warm restaurant. The xxx pizza was a prearranged starter. I had the spaghetti squash, my son had the short ribs and my BF had the chicken, then shred the carrots for a veggie. We all loved the meals but the carrots had an odd, vinegar flavor which made them not very good. Maybe this is how they are supposed to taste but, to us, they seemed off.
We would have loved to taste their desserts...but it was just too hot. Not sure of this place’s longevity with these issues.
The service was terrible, no air conditioning, food was at best average. Small portions. No regard for our comfort. Everyone was sweating and we had to stand up and wave the server over for a drink.
Not worth it at all
Some of the reviews mentioned excessive noise, but I suspect that must have been around dinner time. For a weekday lunch it was definitely quiet enough to have an easy conversation with my colleague. I loved that they had brunch food on the lunch menu, and the sweet potato Hash was absolutely delicious. Service was relaxed, but friendly.
Only weird thing was that Open Table sent me a confirming text. I replied to confirm, but when I showed up a few hours later, the restaurant told me my reservation had been canceled. Fortunately there were plenty of tables available, and I showed them the text confirming. But perhaps make sure that you confirm directly with the restaurant if you're concerned.
Execution (food & service) did not align with their price points. That said, if you go, the octopus was tender and the mushrooms were delicious. All portions were very modest.
Waiter was nice, host was rude
Great food and atmosphere particularly for price
Charming neighborhood restaurant with good food and service, and interesting decor.. would definitely return..
We were a large group (15 people) and the whole
Process was easy. I worked with George’s on a menu and they were super accommodating with all of our needs and dietary restrictions. Food was ok - I remember It being better. We were served everything family style and felt that the food on the prefix menu wasn’t really meant for sharing
Food wasn't great
I tried this place b cause a food blogger friend of mine recommended it. I was there for Sunday brunch and my food was absolutely delicious
Chalk Point Kitchen is always ON POINT! Another fantastic dinner last night with a vibrant crowd---local and from other cool cities. Matt and Georges always ensure you have a super time and an incredible dining experience. The service is always excellent too, and, it's a great spot to transition from the upstairs dining deliciousness to the downstairs lounge fun. Very easy to make a night out of it! See you again soon!
The service was below par, however the food was good.
After dinner we went to handy bar downstairs. The man at the entrance doing coat check was extremely aggressive with my friend because she didn’t hear him when he asked if she could take her coat. He shouted at her “why don’t you respond to me when you know I’m talking to you?!?!?!” And we said we didn’t know you were talking to her. That was really aggressive. And he just yelled back “SHE IS A GROWN WOMAN SHE CAN DEFEND HERSELF.” First of all - why are we having to “defend” ourselves to their staff? It’s not often that I find myself in that kind of aggression. I was actually anxious about it - froze like I was in fight or flight mode and felt my heart racing! All over a coat. It was very unsettling and when I told our server from dinner he defended him. I was surprised and had a pit in my stomach. You just don’t scream at women or at your customers period!
Great food but insanely slow service.
The food was very good, but everything was overpriced (especially the drinks! avoid the juices!). I'm mixed on whether I would recommend this restaurant to a friend. If anything, just eat the food and avoid drinks. The service wasn't great either.
Great food and great atmosphere! Service was awesome too, they were on top of our requests and friendly. A little pricey but in NY, that’s what I’d expect. Only odd thing was that the white wine we ordered wasn’t chilled but that was probably a one off. Would definitely go back!
I went there for brunch. The atmosphere is cozy and the food was great. I had the avocado toast which was slightly spicy but yummy. I also had the best Bloody Mary I’ve ever had. You can tell that the ingredients were fresh.
Everything was delicious. The cauliflower flatbread, dandelion salad & caramel pudding were the highlights though.
OK meal not sure if I would go back or recommend.
I have been to Chalk Point many times and it seems to have gone downhill. The food is overall still good (though the pickles are limp and not as tasty), but the service was pretty bad. Forgot to place one of our party's order (there were only four of us), brought out the wrong dessert, was hard to flag down when you needed him. Water boys and other staff were great though. Wish them well for a needed turn back to goodness.
Beautiful restaurant that has an extensive offering of local, seasonal food. A place where you feel great after the meal.
Food was terrible. Service was poor and ambiance was so quiet.
The 1/2 chicken on top of barley was delicious. The carrots are a must when you eat here - the feta cheese sprinkle on top is a surprise. Our server was great!
Food is great, hostess was welcoming and attentive. Service staff seemed uninterested to serve the customers and had to ask for basic things like water.
Lovely meal! I'd heard a number of good things and took a friend visiting from London this past weekend. Very nice farm to table menu. Chorizo hash was delicious!
Absolutely the best brunch I have had in years!! My husband and I wanted to order everything, and pretty much did :). Service and music were spectacular!
Drinks were fabulous, the food was divine and the service was just the right amount of attentive. I'd go back in a second!
To start with, the service absolutely sucks. Our party of four convened for our 2:00 brunch reservation at exactly 2:00, which was after I had let the host know that half of the party was there about ten minutes prior. We got the expected “just a few minutes” when I notified him that our entire party was there, which is fine, and then proceeded to wait for half an hour to be seated. Being that there’s literally nowhere to sit or even stand while you wait except for the narrow vestibule where you enter the restaurant, one couldn’t help overhearing other parties who were in the same boat — on time for their reservation yet not being seated on time or close to it. It all begs the question of what exactly the point is in making a reservation if it doesn’t in fact matter in the end and you wind up waiting as if you had no reservation in the first place.
After finally being seated we were immediately ready to order drinks if nothing else, but waited another ten minutes for a member of the waitstaff to come to our table, adding to our annoyance. Then we ordered and received our drinks, and the Bloody Marys can only be described as V8 with a garnish. There was no discernible vodka, no discernible horseradish, nothing that would make one think they were drinking a Bloody Mary. Obviously we questioned this and the waitress took them back to the bar to try fixing them but, like, come on. If you’ve screwed up a drink that is a standard on most menus, there’s a problem. Then we get to the food. The orange and ricotta toast was delicious, at least. Can’t really say the same for the rest of it. Frankly, most greasy spoons would’ve put the chorizo hash I ordered to shame. All in all it was a huge disappointment and proof that hype is, most of the time, not worth listening to.
Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting NYC. Chalk Point Kitchen has been on my list of places to try for a while and I am so thrilled I got to experience it. This little hole in the wall will make you forget all about the noise and bustle that is NYC. Sometimes, it’s nice to feel like you can get away from it all. We went during the week so I’m not so sure how busy they get on the weekend.
They have a wide array of cocktails to choose from. The menus are seasonal but I can assure you the Cauliflower Flatbread we ordered as a starter was scrumptious. We also ordered the Vegan Caesar, the Half Chicken and for dessert - the Devils Food Cake. DELISH!!
Will be coming back next time I’m in town!
Loved the lamb - succulent and delicious. Enjoyed the vegetables too - carrots and Brussel sprouts that whole table was excited about and that does not happen every day! My husband and friends enjoyed the steak - large portions indeed!
We were seated an hour after our reservation. The dining room had many available tables. Although we were a few minutes late, I️ will admit, we were told it would be a 15 minutes wait and to have a seat at the downstairs bar. 30 minutes later we took it upon ourselves to ask the hostess when our table would be ready. There were still many available tables in the dining room. Despsite the availability we were not seated for another 20-30 minutes. Food was average at best but disappointed in the wait time.
$16 salad with basically just a lot of bitter greens a bland dressing and a quarter of an apple. Not even close to worth it, and it was what the waiter recommended...
Chalk Point Kitchen never disappoints. This place was recommended by a friend last year and we immediately fell in love. Fresh ingredients and wonderful drinks. Staff is cool and welcoming. Seating is a tiny bit uncomfortable but if you're sitting on the booth side then you should have no issues.
This restaurant was quaint, with a rustic, farmhouse type décor. The menu had a limited selection. All items are a la carte, so with already pricey entrees, the meal can add up quickly. The rack of lamb was delicious. The service was good. However, when I ordered a beer (of which there were only 4 or 5 on the menu), the waitress informed me they did not have any beer that night. She came back later with one option. The ambiance was nice, except for the hip hop music playing when we arrived and throughout most of our dinner. The music did not seem to go with the décor. So, while I liked the food a lot, I'd be hesitant to go back here.
Overpriced. Supposed gluten free options but I ended up with a rash after the meal- so clearly there was cross contamination or some other issue. Disappointed.
This place is overrated and OVER PRICED. Skip it. There are way too many better options in that neighborhood. Go there.
Terrific experience! Food was simply amazing. Staff was attentive and ambiance is lovely.
Too precious and overpriced. Servers seemed to fear Kitchen. Rigid and self-impressed kitchen.
If you hate great food, friendly people and cozy atmospheres, this place is not for you. Everything from the service to what is served is perfection. The menu is switched out seasonally -which is apparent based on how fresh all the ingredients are and is great for all types of diets (vegetarians and carnivores alike). It's trendy with none of the pretention that can go along with that. First came to this restaurant for the menu, came back for the amazing staff...and the menu...also the drinks.
Came here for brunch for 4, inclusive of a few family members. No dietary restrictions, but plenty of healthy and flexible options. Everything was incredibly tasty too. Speculative foodies, do not be afraid!
Chalk Point greets you with a beautiful rustic setting on Broome Street that is instantly very relaxing and surprisingly peaceful in the heart of NYC. Much like most people these days my girlfriend and I enjoy good food that is also health and organically conscious. So the sustainable sourced menu was much appreciated and provides enough variety to appeal to everyone. Our bunch on 9/23 was excellent - we highly recommend the Matcha Matcha cocktail and the Avocado Hash, both absolutely fantastic. The service here is additionally superb. We definitely enjoyed the relaxed, casual, and fun mood - the perfect brunch spot to kick off a beautiful Saturday morning! We are very happy we found Chalk Point and will definitely go back the next time we visit NYC.
