Chalet Basque Ratings and Reviews
Our first meal here. We went for lunch. Everything was very good. We ordered some items from the dinner menu without any problems. Nice bar, good service and great ambiance. We sat inside on a rainy day, but the patio looked very inviting. Easy parking. We will definitely go back.
My husband ordered the Rack of Lamb and I ordered the Duck. Both were deliciously fresh.
The prices make it possible to eat out more frequently and the atmosphere makes you feel as though you really are in Basque Country. The wines are priced very reasonably as well.
A real gem!!
I had not been to the Chalet Basque for many years, and decided to go when I saw that they were one of the first restaurants to agree to donate a percentage of their profits to help people who suffered loss from the NorCal fires.
One dish I rarely have is rack of lamb, and they did a wonderful job of cooking it exactly to my order. The side dishes were scalloped potatoes and the BEST creamed spinach I've ever eaten.
The service as attentive but not rushed.
I'll be back soon!
Had enjoyable lunch on patio. A beautiful weather day and important to be outside . Chalet Basque has a lovely ambience on patio with umbrella covered tables, flowers on some tables. Food was good, and serving size /presentation quite adequate. The staff was attentive and accommodating.
Linda is always the best! We planned a birthday dinner for my wife and arrived a biy early before our guests They were slammed, but Linda came out and said that she would have our favorite window table by the reservation time... and true to form, she did! The food is always exceptional. Roger used to carry our Starry Night wines 20 years ago when we sold them in California, and we have been coming here much longer than that. In fact, Linda has been serving here for 37 years!... and has written a book about those experiences. Happy wife, happy life. If you are looking for a fun party, call Patrick, and tell him that you want Linda as your server!
I had purchased 2 Groupons and this was the second time I went and enjoyed both times. The wait staff is really outstanding , so on top of their service for every customer.
I have to say the soup was very very delicious. I had pasta and vegetables with shrimp and it was wonderful.
Chalet Basque was exactly what we were after for a lazy Sunday dinner. The weather was perfect for eating out on the patio, which is small enough to be cozy but large enough to not feel cramped. The staff was friendly and attentive without being obtrusive and the food was delicious.
It never disappoints! The food and service were both great. We asked for and got a quiet area. Our service was friendly and efficient. We stayed for a while and did not feel pressure to leave even though it was getting quite late.
If you've never tried Basque food, this is the place to become addicted! It's a cross between French and Spanish, with assertive, vibrant flavors.
Chalet Basque has been a family favorite for decades. My husband and I try to visit whenever we are in San Rafael.
This trip we got an early (5:30) reservation and were the first ones there. By the time we left, the place was getting packed.
We sat on the patio.
Dinners come with a tureen of soup to share. Ours was potato leek (with a hint of artichoke?). Also a very fresh salad. My husband had lamb shanks with white beans. I had rock cod in lemon/garlic butter which came with a scoop or aromatic rice and steamed veggies. Portions are large and the food is beyond delicious. Try not to fill up on the garlic bread or you won't be able to finish your meal!
For $5 extra you can get pate and either ice cream or rice pudding included in your dinner.
My husband had house white wine for only $5 a glass!
The menu is not huge, but has plenty of choices.
Entrées include shrimp, fish of the day, chicken (several options), duck, pasta, steak, veal, lamb, or more exotic meats including beef tongue, sweetbreads and frogs legs.
Desserts include chocolate mousse, flan, ice cream, rice pudding. Also several specialty coffees and port.
The service is attentive and professional.
There is a bar with a TV where you can also eat. The SF Giants game was playing during our dinner.
