Linda our server was EXCELLENT!! If I could have given her 10 stars, I would have. She’s very knowledgeable about both the food and the wine list. So much personality. I ordered beef Bourgogne and my husband ordered lamb shank. Food is always exceptional. We’ve been going g to Chalet Basque for over 30 years. Always a good meal.
Prior to Lyle Lovett concert.
The food was delicious and we are looking forward to returning with our out of town guests.
Excellent food with big portions; great value for old school 3 course meal.
I think this restaurant has wonderful food, great service and atmosphere. A hidden gem.
Charming, excellent service by the servers, classy, delicious food and drinks, overall wonderful evening! I will definitely come again! Makes you feel as if you are in Europe. Comfortable environment, and really sweet employees. Everyone there exudes kindness and commitment to providing an excellent experience! So unusual these days. Love this place!
Love this warm & friendly restaurant!
Never disappointed with the quality of the food even on a busy night. Our server seemed to be learning his job as we had to ask to be waited on as well as ask several times for the olive oil. But he was trying and very pleasant . Overall a wonderful meal and will always be a “go to “ place for our family.
I’ve had good experiences here but tonight was a comedy of errors - out of our first choice of wine , then brought the wrong wine (which they even tried to bill me for after bringing the right wine). Brought the wrong starters (soup when we ordered salads). The steak was fairly tasteless (apart from the sauce).
I want them to succeed- but tonight was a let down.
Always good
Very nice place, fantastic food, very friendly staff. I highly recommend Chalet Basque!
Definitely falls in the it hidden gem category. Its been around a long time and we sort of forgot about it. Glad we went. Food was very tasty not to mention reasonably priced. The wine was also reasonable and they make a great Irish Coffee with real cream. Not super fancy, but it does have white tablecloths and a pleasant ambiance. This place is definitely on our list of places we will go out to in Marin County. People are very nice as well.
Loved it, first time. Ran into old friends. Fantastic cocktails and delicious food!
Definitely a hidden gem with only small changes over the past 20 years which is as long as I've know it. We love the quaint European atmosphere and menu. The service is fantastic and food delicious. Its fun to have the full, separate bar area which feels like a neighborhood hangout, and some interesting antiques throughout adding to the unique character. The white linen, red decor and artwork make it feel like a special occasion spot, yet the service is so friendly they make you feel right at home. It was surprisingly empty on a Sunday night other than the crowd in the bar. On the other hand, I'm glad they were open until 9! We love the pate, salami and peperoncini appetizer and bread basket, both garlic and plain. Its a rustic pate, not at all overpowering. The dinner salad with house vinaigrette while simple is so good. Very fresh. Jury was out on the watercress soup. Tastes a little like split pea and fun that they serve it homestyle from a big bowl at the table, but I think you need a pretty big appetite for the full meal and if anything had to give it was the soup! For entrees, we had two different shrimp dishes which were both delicious. The veggies on the plate seemed like a bit of an afterthought, but tasted good. Our vegan friend was very happy with the vegetable plate she ordered which included artichoke, sautéed mushrooms and a bunch of other things. Last but certainly not least, still dreaming about that spumoni! Choice of either ice cream or rice pudding comes with the meal. We were pleasantly surprised to find a vegan option there as well with a delicious mango sorbet. All in all it was a fantastic birthday dinner and we hope to be back soon - especially now that the weather is nice, lunch outside on the patio feels like a touch of' the continent' right here in Marin!
Always a pleasant experience. Chalet Basque can be relied upon to provide good food
and attentive personnel.
Quickly seated, good service, excellent food
Always a lovely experience. And such a treat that it is so local and the food is always delicious.
A wonderful location with great food and people. The table that we requested was ready on arrival
Waitress was very friendly and attentive.
New Years Eve. We expected it to be crowded and busy. We go to this restaurant often for special occasions. They moved in extra tables so it was very crowded, noisy, and warm. Fixed menu, didn’t add anything more then you normally get. They doubled the price. We had reservations at 8, we were seated right away. We didn’t eat our main entree till 10:15. Very disappointing!
good food. service a bit slow. excellent location.
Great value. A bit dated and servers do their jobs - not professional in watching tables for needs etc
Fantastic service and great food! Always my go to for out of town guests.
A real gem! Always good food, service and atmosphere.
Chalet Basque is a neighborhood gem. They have been around forever and still put out a quality meal. Food is consistently good and reasonably priced. Entrees include soup and salad. We think it is worth the trip to come all the way from Southern Marin County.
Classic French Basque restaurant with great selection of food and drinks. Thursday's feature paella which is always delicious.
Besides all the good reviews, we haven’t found the meals unique. It has a local dining in feeling. Only split pea/ curry soup was okay but the rest unfortunately didn’t taste good.
Wonderful staff and consistently good food!
Excellent service and awesome food. The waitress was new but so friendly and courteous.
Our first time there. i felt that I had entered a time warp to a different era with white table cloths, a relaxed atmosphere and a quiet evening. We ordered the duck and the lamb and were very happy with the quality of the dishes at a very fair price.
I've been coming here for just about 40 years. Not so much the last 20. We moved. Always enjoy the 5 course meal. I highly recommend. Great value also. Our server seemed new and not so on top of things or personal. Linda is an amazing server and is kinda of the heart of the place for me, but she was on other tables. One of the salads had wasn't so sharp. Fettuccine clams lots of garlic if you like and clams great. Overall a great hidden gem. Lively bar. Loved my wine in the ice bucket. Nice touch
Warm, charming French Basque local icon. Part of life for us.
A locales kind of place that delivers surprisingly good wholesome French/Basque food. We dined for Thanksgiving, always a potential death knell and were pleasantly surprised with a choice of 5 entrees and a 4 course meal. The rack of lamb (+$9) was amazingly tender and tasty.
This is an excellent neighborhood restaurant.
It's our favorite place to take friends for a great meal.
I was celebrating retirement. Everyone was attentive, funny and made the event most enjoyable.
What a fun place and delicious food. It was fun with a group of friends or would be perfect for a romantic dinner. The outdoor patio looked inviting. Great French/Basque food. We all will go back again.
Good food and always a favorite
A bit “old school” but they have a lot of dishes that you can’t find in many restaurants. Very friendly staff, some of whom have been working there for years.
Not as good as past experiences
