Chakra Ratings and Reviews
Made a reservation a month in advance. They called the day before Valentines Day looking for a credit card and to tell us that it was $112pp(over $300 in the end for 2 with no alcohol). At that point we had no other choice but to accept. When I pushed back "It is list on our website and you should have checked" not handled very well guys. Restaurant well appointed. Four courses were served with many options for each, all i chose were very good. The waitress, who was brought in just for that night had a big smile and was very helpful. Probably was the pivotal thing that kept the night from being a complete disaster. After 3 hours that went by quickly I had to get up and ask someone for our dessert. I was told the kitchen was backed up. Any other night the time would not have been an issue but on this night it was important to be home early and in bed. Pretty pricey for the experience.
This restaurant is New Jersey’s gem. The food is absolutely delicious and great quality. Waiters are always so friendly and courteous. The chefs wife is very nice and always friendly when walking into the restaurant. This is one of the best restaurants I have experienced and I have come to this restaurant so many times that I lost track. AMAZING FOOD QUALITY AND SERVICE!!!!!!
Second time doing their Valentine’s menu and was disappointed that the menu was pretty much the same menu as last year. Such a shame for management to not invest in a special menu. Same boring desserts too. Not delicious at all. Just looks so fancy but tastes so weird and bland. Ambiance is what keeps tricking us to come back. Wish they would take advantage of what they have and actually make really yummy food.
I’ve been here before. The food was not as good this time. Really disappointing. Also, the waiters were so busy and distracted. Took them almost 30 min to take our order. Later with the dessert menu, it was given to us, but the waited didn’t come back for 25 minutes.
Over priced sub par food. Two items we ordered we so fatty that we couldn't eat them. I would have ordered a replacement, but our service we was so bad that or server didn't come over to the table- it was 25 minutes after the food had been brought to the table that he checked in with us about the appetizer. He took a drink order from us when he removed the inedible appetizer, our main meal came and the wine that was ordered still hadn't arrived. The main meal included mushrooms- an allergy that he was informed about. Yet again 20-30 minutes passed before he came to the table to check on the food (still not having brought the drinks) Don't waste your time or money on this place
We enjoyed a delicious New Years Eve meal. While they offered a limited set 3-course menu, there were plenty of options to please the palate. We each opened with a cocktail (the pear/nutty martini was superior). For food I started with the squash soup, then lamb shank (which was cooked to perfection) and the chocolate brioche. The hubby had the lobster/shrimp appy, salmon (again served as ordered- seared), and the goats milk cheesecake (not a favorite). The waiter was pleasant and helpful. Food was delivered in a timely fashion, but not too rushed. The ambiance here is always exceptional. Due to the holiday, there was an automatic gratuity included (almost $40)- so I was glad that I checked the bill, because there was no mention of this and there was still the line to add a gratuity when I signed to pay by credit card. So even though everyone was lovely to us and the food was wonderful- I felt like I saved myself from being taken a little advantage of. Overall Chakra is a great place for a special evening of higher end fine dining.
We dined at Chakra for a date on a Saturday night. It was a 6:15 reservation, so I wasn't surprised that the restaurant had only a few guests at that relatively early hour, but the restaurant was still more than half empty when we left at 7:30. I was surprised to hear there was only one special - an enormous steak - which my date and I were not interested in. The menu hasn't changed much since the last time we dined at Chakra. I remember being quite impressed the first few times we ate there, but the dazzle seems to have dulled. The calamari is still good and the kale salad was fine. The crab cakes are fine, too - nothing I can't make at home myself - and the simple grilled salmon is just that, simple - again, nothing I can't make at home myself. There was no tonic at the bar so an awful tasting gin and tonic (not sure what they tried to mix the gin with) had to be sent back and 3 (!) habanero margaritas left me stone cold sober, so I'm not sure there was any actual alcohol in them. This used to be our go-to romantic date destination, but it's now officially off our list and we won't be returning. It's just not worth it.
I didn't like the fact that when I asked for a booth through Open Table and then got to the restaurant, I wanted to make sure the booth I requested would still be available but I was told it's for larger parties only that night of 4 or more... Then I was rushed while sitting at the bar to sit and we asked for a corner table where the Manager said he can't hold the seat to long and we would have to sit quickly because people are coming in. Not one party along the whole back row sat by us our entire dining experience. Looking across the way at the booths we wanted however, we saw two tables being seated with a couple -- (2) people. Needless to say we were upset and mad. And the fact that they charge you if you want blue cheese stuffed olives at $3 p/ stick. I rather have it hidden in the cost of the drink than to be told I have to pay for olives. Lastly, I wanted an after dinner drink and the waiter told me of one he liked and I sampled it with my guest and we liked it enough to try it. When I got the bill, it was $22 p/ glass. TELL ME UPFRONT WHAT THE COST IS WHEN IT'S THAT TYPE OF PRICE. Last time I'm going there for dinner again. Manager and waiter were deceitful.
We have been to Chakra several times for Thanksgiving and was always satisfied. This time the food was great as always but the service was a disappointment. We were rushed as soon as we entered the restaurant. My plates were taken away before I put my fork down. The waiter didn't offer coffee or tea with dessert and placed our bill on the table before we started on our dessert. The food was wonderful but I wish we had time to enjoy it.
Came in for the thanksgiving prefix menu. I've Been here a few times and the food and service are excellent! This was another great meal! The managers and owners clearly care and it shows in the way the wait staff approaches their jobs! I will return again!
We consider Chakra to be one of our favorite restaurants! Outstanding attention to detail, with an emphasis on customer satisfaction at all times. Last Saturday night, we brought two friends who were new to the area... They were impressed by the lovely atmosphere and delicious food. Yes, it is definitely expensive but worth every cent...
Grilled octupus with white bean purée. Chargrilled smokiness over a rich, silky smooth bed of bean purée.
Crab cake. Jumbo lump, zero filler with a sublime refreshing pea shoot garnish
Hanger steak with chimichurri. Perfectly marinated, tons of flavor, nicely chargrilled without becoming blackened and bitter
Cocktails are unique and generous. Expansive wine list also.
Desserts are delicious and the French press coffee is outstanding.
Again-LOVE this restaurant. Lovely managers and waitstaff nicely round out the entire experience.
Atmosphere was very romantic. The waiter was courteous and attentive. My entree selection was the Chilean sea bass, potatoe wrapped shrimp w bok choy. My husband selected the hanger steak. Neither of us were impressed with our meal. There was no flavor at all. Maybe if they hire a new chef we would return. It’s unfortunate as the ambience was super cozy and relaxing.
This was our second time here and we came back because we loved it the first time. The food was excellent again but the service once we got to our table was terrible unfortunately. The hostesses and bartenders were great, the waiter and bus staff was terrible.
Excellent food and decor. Little pricy and worth ever cent. Comfortable seating cool artsy decor. Often have interesting entertainment. I went Halloween weekend and had a Cirque Solie type dancer spinning on fabric hanging from ceiling. Can't recall name for that type of performance. Pole dancer your Mom would like? Extra charge to stay for performance only $20 per person. But go for food and decor. Best for date or I have done business dinners. Kind of NYC without the traffic and parking hassles.
