Centro Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
This is my go-to place for nice dinners, this one happened to be my 30th birthday with the in-laws. I have food intolerances so I usually stick to a salad and the soup-of-the-day, ingredients permitting. (The soup is ALWAYS on point!) The rest of the family got pizza-- can't beat half price after 4pm on Mondays! Dessert and service are always perfect, too.
First time at Centro and found it to be roomy with nice space between tables. It was very quiet that I could hear my five table companions with ease. Everyone enjoyed their experience and thought their meals exceptional. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. We came to celebrate two birthdays and we plan to return for other occasions. My only negative was the lighting was really low which made reading the menu and bill difficult.
It's great to have a predictable Saturday brunch spot in Des Moines, and Centro rarely disappoints. However, the menu is a little tired – in fact, have the brunch options ever changed?
The only item I'd never tried was the stuffed French toast, so on this January Saturday it seemed okay to indulge in a sweet carb load. Although attractively served with sliced fresh strawberries, it was not custardy and was simply two slices stacked – not stuffed as I have enjoyed at other restaurants.
I would recommend to diners that they stick to the savory options – especially the mushroom omelet and breakfast pizza which are both very good.
Service was first rate from start to finish; we were well served by Chris B. Lighting could be better; otherwise the room is very enjoyable. My daughter gave high marks to the "Cadillac" cocktail she ordered. 4 to 4.5 stars for the food. My sausage-and-rigatoni was very good, and my dining companions (family members) were very pleased with their dishes. The insalata mista was good; it could have used just a little more vinaigrette dressing. We did not have dessert. Overall, very good. We have been to Centro several times and will definitely return.
Food is delicious! Love their Portobello Fries for an appetizer. Great options for lunch. Took my work team for a holiday lunch celebration. It was affordable for group and everyone could find something on the menu to meet their taste. Nice to see that portions are not scaled back at lunch. Server was well-timed and friendly.
Felt a little rushed this visit. Solids came before appetizers were finished and entry was before solids were even half finished. My Gramdsons Steak did not come as ordered but he was hungry enough he ate it anyway. First time Ive had a so-so experience. I’ll try them again. Everybody has a bad night.
One of my favorite DM restaurants. The standard menu items are always excellent and I enjoy the chef's new creations. They are seasonal, perfectly seasoned and artistically presented. The service is well above average. The servers take orders, replenish beverages and tend to the table's needs without interrupting! So nice not to have servers butt into our conversation or ask questions when the diner is chewing!
Food was AMAZING but service was lacking some. It was the middle of lunch rush so a small wait for the waitress to come back is understandable but I sat with an empty plate in front of me for at least 10 minutes and then had to ask for a dessert menu instead of it being offered. Also the sauce I requested on the side did not come that way but the delivering employee was more then happy to get it fixed. Our waitress was never even aware of the issue when she returned to the table.
Our first time here. DId not like the I-pad drink list. Service was good. Started with the pancetta wrapped shrimp, tomato basil soup and centro salad. Soup was very good as that is what a lot of people reccomend. Our main entrees were the wood fired salmon with broccolini and fingerling potatoes and the two bone pork chop with asparagus and fingerling potatoes. We were told that the pork chop was cooked to medium as standard but ours came out more medium rare but that was ok. Both entrees were very good. Dessert was the budino; a pistachio pudding. We will be back as there were more things that we would love to try. This could be our new place to try. Our bill before tip was around $120.
Everything was wonderful as usual except for a hiccup in service by the waitress. Upon arrival I asked about the martini special that ended at six. Our waitress said she would see if it was still applicable, stating that it was dependent on the time showing at the register. So rather than take our order and check, she stopped at two tables on her way to the bar. When she returned it was 6:00 and she stated that the offer window had passed. Ok.
I had the lamb pasta that included some of the widest flat noodles I’ve ever had and it was delicious. My date had the two medallions of beef and it was equally good. We finished up with the flourless cake that was truly decadent.
All in all another wonderful experience at Centro!
The overall experience that we had was amazing! The food was great and our waitress was so pleasant. The only thing that I was not impressed with was the family sitting next to us. With the vibe the restaurant gives, this isn't really the place for kids. The obnoxious noises is the only thing I have a complaint about! We will definitley visit again!
Very disappointing. The home made cavatelli was almost raw. It was swimming is a greasy bland sauce. I specifically asked if the coffee was fresh before ordering. It arrived room temperature. The restaurant space is beautifully decorated and very spacious. It's a shame.
We went to Centro Friday 12/1 for our anniversary. We decided to choose a restaurant that we both hadn’t been to before. We were impressed by the menu online and decided to give it a shot. We arrived early for our reservation and were sat right away (definitely weren’t expecting to be sat so soon since we knew we were almost a half hour early). Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. The food was amazing (can we talk about how good the free bread is?!) and our waitress gave us a complimentary dessert for our anniversary which topped off an already awesome experience. 10/10 would recommend! We will definitely be coming back! (:
We were a party of 4 women, 2 of whom had never been to Centro. Everyone enjoyed the short time we chose to spend in the bar before our dinner reservation . Busy and friendly servers at reception desk, bar and restaurant. Just the right amount of attention and service from everyone. Food was great after a day of shopping and pre theater. Absolutely will be back again.
