One of the top restaurants in Des Moines. Delicious food, nice ambiance and very good service. One of my go-to restaurants for every day or special occasions.
Great birthday brunch. Centro never lets down. Always great food, great service. I am not sure if there is a Nother restaurant in Des Moines one can say that about. We have been there dozens of times.
Our first time to dine here. We were visiting, and it was recommended. Service fair...hate for salads to be served before appetizers. Crab cakes cold with too much breading. Bruschetta bland with basically tomatoes chopped up served with not enough toast. Pasta good and pizza good. Pork chop had no taste. Prices reasonable. Maybe give it a second try.
Every year we make a trip to Des Moines for the Farmers Market. This is our second time to eat at Centro and we were not disappointed. The ambience is great, service is impeccable and the food is music to your palate. They made my husband’s birthday extra special!
Good food, but a bit pricy. (Truffle pasta soecial $40!!!).
Not crowded when we were there, but could get noisy.
Delicious food, great experience, favorite dessert in the metro: George’s Marshalltown Sundae. Will be back soon!
Quiet ambience, extremely knowledgeable waitstaff concern the menu, food preparation and wine paring. Amazing food flavors and a variety of food selections.
Food always good and that is why I try to eat there when I am in Des Moines
Service was great. Food was great. We chose to eat outside on the patio. there was a constant hum that was distracting. The positive aspects of our experience outweighed the negative, but won't side on patio again. We have been eating at Centro since it opened. Love it!
I ordered the ribeye steak and was served a NY strip. When I informed my server she took it back to the chef who essentially told me I was incorrect, that it was their ribeye. My wife's scallops were undercooked. The wine we selected was good. The server didn't seem to care to be at work, no personality, nothing but going through the motions. I likely won't be returning here.
Food is always OUTSTANDING! Service is great! My favorite DSM restaurant.
The best place in town!
Good food, very good service. I always enjoy this restaurant.
Steak was overcooked, but the redid it and it was fine. Had to tell someone other than the waiter. Also, waiter forgot a second beer request. Pizza is always good, but steaks are going down hill. So is the restaurant, I am afraid to say because have loved it over the years.
It was a very nice place for a group of six and a toddler celebrating anniversaries. We had a bunch of different appetizers and demolished them all. A favorite-the portabello fries! And the tomato basil soup was very good. Everyone enjoyed their entrees as well. My daughter and I had a martini at the end of the meal that was amazing. Thanks for the fun experience!
Went to centro for the first time with my girlfriend on her birthday. We order the crab cakes as an appetizer, they were tremendous. She ordered a small pizza which was also very good, but the chicken sandwich I ordered was not done on one half that I ate so I got sick. Other than that it was a good experience.
A great experience as usual!
The food was fresh, interesting and delicious with generous portions and great, prompt service! We dined early before going to a concert. No problem getting reservations nor getting to the show with time to spare.
Have decided that Centro is a great place for pizza and soups / salads. Always leave feeling disappointed in overpriced and overrated entrees. Ordered a couple of Manhattans "up" and literally got <1/2 each. Seemed to be a single Manhattan poured into two glasses. Centro is usually better than this so I will chalk it up to a bad night for the bar staff.
A favorite place to dine in Des Moines. Happy hour very limited in selection. Disappointing.
Always a little loud in here but I have never once been disappointed in the food or service. My favorite restaurant in Des Moines!!
Our entrees were great! My husband ordered spaghetti that wasn’t on the menu and it was perfect. Centro steak is a must! We had 6:00 reservations, we got there early at 5:30. There were lots of empty tables and we received a “less than desireable” table. It didn’t make for a very romantic or intimate experience. Service was great and food was excellent!
I’ve fined at this restaurant several times and I’ve always enjoyed the food and this time was no exception. My only problem with this dining experience was for the first time, we dined on the patio. Though the patio itself along with the service was great the noise pollution was nearly unbearable. The restaurant is located in what’s called “The Loop”. Cars for nearly 90-120 mins were driving in a quarter block rectangle and would intentionally peel off at the intersection where the restaurant is located. It was nearly nonstop. I wouldn’t recommend dining outside nor will I ever do so again. Severely dampened my romantic dinner for two.
This was our 4th visit to Centro in Downtown Des Moines and we were not disappointed. The food was great from appetizers to dessert. Excellent service and wine list. We will be back!
Celebrated our 50th anniversary here with great friends. Excellent food, service and atmosphere.
Had a wonderful birthday dinner and excellent restaurant week menu.
Good food that night had 3 course meal server was always there with a refill. 5 stars easy
My wife ordered Pizza with less cheese and for some reason, cheese quantity looked normal. When we told the staff about this, they immediately placed another order with less cheese and brought it to us in a few mins. Outstanding service.
Our dinner was totally wonderful! The Centros in Davenport IA closed sometime ago. We were quite dissappointed. Since we were in Des Moines for the state fair we felt our little get-away would not be complete without a nostalgic visit to Centros. We weren't dissappointed. Food, service, everything was exceptional as was the wine and drink selection. We are so happy we took the time to enjoy a great meal at a great resturant.
This place is my favorite restaurant. I drive 45 minutes to get here. The food is delicious and the plating is great. The price isn't bad at all when you want 5 star quality and taste. Two apps, 2 entrées (one being a large gourmet pizza) and 2 drinks for $60. We took home a lot of food. If it's your birthday you get free dessert. The restaurant is beautiful and the servers top notch.
Centro is fantastic! Great find in Des Moines. Such great, creative Italian food with an American flair. Good value, service, and ambiance. Will definitely be back!
Absolutely loved everything. We will definitely go again !
Kitchen was a bit overwhelmed on night of our visit and it took a considerably more time then usual for our dinner to arrive. We go to Centro often and will continue but thought an explanation earlier in process would have been appropriate.
Celebrating an Anniversary and they went out of their way to make it special.
Wonderful food and atmosphere.
Great! Great food, great service. Love Centro.
Excellent service with an attentive waitstaff (our waiter was helpful, knowledgeable and available). The bread is excellent and the steaks far exceeded my expectations. Appetizers were delicious, the drink menu was interesting and the service was prompt. I do business regularly in Des Moines and will add this to my shortlist!
We stopped at Centro for Sunday Brunch. They have a nice menu with plenty of choices. We had the spinach frittata and the crab cake benedict, both were excellent. We saw the great review on TripAdvisor and weren't disappointed. We would love to try this place for dinner.
We had a great Anniversary dinner! I had dropped a rose off before to have as a surprise at the table and it was put in a small nice vase of water and on the table perfectly! Great touch. Server Emily was great and the food was wonderful. The only thing I would change about this restaurant is the beer selection is lacking if you like craft beers - specifically IPAs. Otherwise, I recommend this restaurant above all others downtown. Great job!
We originally came here for the lasagna but we were informed that that is only a lunch special on Thursday. We then looked at the menu and decided to get the fried calamari for an appetizer and the chicken saltimbocca and chicken and prosciutto for the main course. It was all delicious. The calamari was cooked to perfection and so it was very tender and tasty. They include the tentacles which is a plus for us.
We were seated outside as it was a beautiful day. Even though we were on the street the noise level wasn't too much so you could have a nice conversation.
We will definitely be back for lunch and that lasagna.
Great place to come on a date night or even with a group of friends. Very friendly staff and very swift service. Great balance between being attentive, but also not making you feel like you are being rushed out.
