About Central Park BoatHouse
With their 1858 landscaping plan under construction, Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux began adding architectural features to their Park design. Around 1874, Vaux designed a two-story boathouse at the eastern end of the Lake. Here visitors could purchase refreshments, take boat rides, and watch other boats. After this wooden Victorian structure with sloping mansard roof burned down, the current Loeb Boathouse took its place in the 1950s. Today at the New York Boathouse visitors can enjoy a meal in any season, with overhead heating helping to extend as long as possible the pleasure of dining on the deck overlooking the Lake. Come visit a New York legend!

Central Park BoatHouse Ratings and Reviews
The Boathouse is in a beautiful situation with delightful views over the lake. We asked for a seat at the window and were not disappointed although there were no boats out at this time of the year. Service is attentive and discreet. The food was delicious. This is the place to come for a special occasion.
Adored the setting and grateful for our lakeside view. I flew my dad to NYC all the way from London as he’d never been and wanted to visit the boathouse after reading reviews from others. Our server was extremely welcoming, accommodating and friendly. Thank you all for a unique and cherishable dining experience.
We returned to The Boathouse to celebrate a family occasion which I booked in advance from Australia. I was delighted to find my earlier experience from a few years ago repeated with excellent service, wonderful food and a good wine list. For me, a meal at the Central Park Boathouse is a New York highlight. I look forward to coming back!
From the beginning, the ambience of the location, the attentiveness of the service and the quality of the meal were all faultless. We had booked a couple of weeks in advance (which is necessary) and dressed for the occasion (which, one rapidly realises in New York, is not). We had the crab cake which was full of real crab meat (as opposed to filler) and the excellent grilled octopus to start. Then my partner had the ahi tuna while I had the steak. In all cases the portions were very generous. We washed it all down with a very pleasant Pouilly Fume.
And then to signal the special occasion, the waiter bought us a warm chocolate fondant with chocolate sorbet - absolutely delicious.
Learned my lesson last time I was in the city so, this trip I booked reservations well in advance for a great dinner at the boat house. My Husband raved for 2 days about his meal. Great food, great ambiance, great service. We will be back (and book ahead)💜😉
Came with my daughter from California on vacation. We loved the atmosphere and the view.
It was a perfect 70 degree sunny day. The trees were gorgeous in the background. The food was quality. I liked the portions, not too much, not too little. We will come back next visit!
We were 4 women travelling to NY for a fifthiet for one of the party. We could not have asked for a better setting for the special lunch. The food and service was amazing, the setting beautiful with a table right on the lake. They went above and beyond with a lovely unexpected dessert with candle for the birthday girl. It was everything we expected and more! Go. You won’t be disappointed.
We had a truly memorable experience. The staff were really professional but were also welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere is very special, it is difficult to find the words to describe it. The food was delicious and very well presented. A wonderful place, everybody involved should be very proud. We will be back!
Food and service were excellent. We sat close to an adjacent wedding party which was quite loud. The shuttle service out of the park was convenient. Would have been nice to know about the shuttle before we arrived (it was not that obvious from the website or reservation).
Dinner at the Loeb Boathouse Restaurant last Saturday did not disappoint. My original reservation was for dinner at 6:30 for 4, but I called them a few hours earlier to add another person to the party, which request they gladly granted. Our table was right beside the bay windows overlooking the water so the view as the sun was setting, was magnificent. Two of us in the group ordered and loved the seafood pasta. My husband ordered salmon which he said was cooked just to his liking. One of my friends, however, had the coffee rubbed pork loin which was a little too tough and dry. Overall, though, everyone thought it was a great dining experience . To top it all, our waiter even gave us a free dessert consisting of chocolate cake with strawberries and ice cream after learning that my husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary!
I was there four years before. Went back for the memories of the surroundings rather than the place itself . The food is OK but nothing special. You are paying for the location rather than the food. The service is very good, typical American a but over the top I want a big tip style, but good. The place is a little stuffy. The bathrooms are always so busy and the attendant is standing there so you feel you have to leave a tip. I am not sure I will go back for food or even for a drink. It’s a shame as the place could and should be amazing!
I took my sister to the restaurant for her birthday. We found it to be a sociable hub with amazing service by amenable waiting staff but nothing really outstanding to warrant the cost. On leaving we visited the ladies restroom which we found to be a disgrace, not very clean and not in good condition. For a supposed upmarket restaurant the restroom was sadly lacking and lets down the restaurant immensely. Always judge a place by its toilets!!!!
The restaurant came recommended by a friend and whilst I have to admit the setting was good (helped by the warm weather we had during October 2017) I could not recommend the restaurant to others. The food was OK but didn't match the total price of the meal which was over $300. We seemed to have a multitude of waiters and the side had ordered with my main course did not come out I had finished my main.
