With their 1858 landscaping plan under construction, Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux began adding architectural features to their Park design. Around 1874, Vaux designed a two-story boathouse at the eastern end of the Lake. Here visitors could purchase refreshments, take boat rides, and watch other boats. After this wooden Victorian structure with sloping mansard roof burned down, the current Loeb Boathouse took its place in the 1950s. Today at the New York Boathouse visitors can enjoy a meal in any season, with overhead heating helping to extend as long as possible the pleasure of dining on the deck overlooking the Lake. Come visit a New York legend!

I remembered coming here six years ago, I have never forgotten how lovely the experience was... as soon as you walk in you can see the quality and style of the furnishings, the black leather chairs, the paintings and light fittings everything is so stylish, the linen is crisp and white & the silverware is sparkling... the wait staff are so attentive and your glass is always full, bread plate always full... the food is high quality, the crab cakes I got six years ago have not changed, they are the best! I do regret getting the burger for main, it was good, but better choices on the menu. Watching the row boats in action was so relaxing too... keep up the good work Leon’s... see you in another five years when we are back in New York...

Although I would recommend the Central Park boat house, this is based on food alone which was very good and tasty. The service was very hit and miss being served by several people which lacked the personal touch. Really felt like a production line as oppose to a tentative well thought out personal service. The table we were given was not bad but clearly the front of house staff don't read the requests made when making a reservation, as no reference was made to my request for a perimeter table as it was my wife's birthday.

All in all the food is good but service not so.

Kept waiting 25 minutes despite having a booking. Salads very dry - had to ask for dressing as was not dressed. Service and value for money very poor.

Such a beautiful restaurant but was so hot I almost got sick. It felt like 110 degrees and NO AC was turned on. It was just terrible. The temperature that day was 97 and again I saw AC vents but no AC. The Hostess, Staff so wonderful, it made this lunch a little better. This restaurant is I feel for tourists. The food was questionable, not as what was on the menu. I have never experienced such hot uncomfortable conditions at any restaurant in my home town or any where in my European travels. Soy I return absolutely NO. It’s possible to have a drink at the Bar in December but otherwise I would stay away.

This was such a beautiful experience for my partner and I whilst travelling in New York. We had an amazing lunch on the water at The Loeb Boathouse and then hired the boats afterwards and rowed down the lake. I would recommend it to anyone.

A friend recommended. Was seated next to window view of the lake. Very beautiful scene to go along with the delicious food served. To start, the selection of breads was incredible and very tasty. Appetizers were the crab cake and creamy burrata. Everything disappeared quickly. Entree was the grilled fillet of beef, along with fingerling potatoes with blue cheese and broccoli rabe. Again, nothing was left over. Dessert was the warm chocolate truffle cake. Delectable! I definitely recommend this place. For the average Joe, like me, it’s perfect for special occasions.

We have been to the Boathouse various times some years ago and were very much surprised when returning this year - it appeared to be a completely different place. The Boathouse turned from a beautiful romantic place to have dinner to a very loud place with crouds of people in muscle shirts having dinner in 45 minute accords. We were very disappointed.

To mention a positive thing - the crab cake was still delicious.

Food is terrific. Never had such great octopus. Good service. A wee bit hot in the restaurant. Not sure if you can help there when it’s so hot in NYC but worth a thought!

too expensive for what it is : steamed cauliflower with powder on top is not gourmet food.
need to learn how to pour wine and note fill your glass up fully every time : kinda frustrating
waiter needs to smile and listen when you ask him that you need to keep the wine list for later during the dinner
overall great location, expensive but what you can expect but food is clearly average, well presented but nothing more

Iconic location that has let the location override service or quality. Had a booking that was confirmed and arrived a few minutes early but were told to wait while people that had just walked in without a reservation were seated before us in a better location. Attitude of all staff was ordinary but worst of all - the food is bland, stale and very very poor quality. Don’t bother going

Our reservation was at 2pm on a Monday early July. The restaurant was packed. They had to leave the doors open and it was 96 degrees outside with 45% humidity. Our table was right in the middle of traffic which made us feel out of place. Our table also wasn’t ready when we arrived. The food wasn’t worth the price and because it was so busy service was very slow. The highlight was the view! I am glad we dined here for the experience but I wouldn’t dine again.

I booked a long time back. It was great but I don’t think I would go back as it was so noisy. Our table service waiters were good. I think it’s a nice place to go once because I love the Park.

We almost canceled our reservation because it was so hot outside and we were concerned that the restaurant with its open pavilion would be too warm - but it was delightful. Those overhead ceiling fans really do the trick. Our server Amanda couldn’t have been lovelier. Upbeat and attentive. Crabcakes are loaded with actual crab versus breading and the tomatoes on the barrata dish were firm and juicy. The Hamachi crudo was less exciting and would be the one thing we wouldn’t order again but overall it was a lovely evening in this beautifully renovated space.

The restaurant is excellent . The view is second to none and location great. It was just extremely hot day and they had all windows open and no air conditioning . Air conditioning would have been much better. Still a fine restaurant I’d return to

So glad we went and I would recommend to anyone going to NYC. It's all about the view and ambiance. Very snooty waiter and the food was decent, but you get the bang for your buck strictly because of its location and available rowboats after your meal which provide a very nice culminating activity.

Finally made it to The BoatHouse. It was very touristic but that is to be expected at such a well-known tourist must-visit place. So we (two of us, lunch diners) don't ding The Boathouse for this. It is a fun experience. But on the negatives, it is quite expensive for food of the quality provided. $26 for two small very plain hamburger sliders, for example. Bloody Mary was premixed and nothing interesting at all. Entree salad was OK at best. A good-sized portion though. The crab-cake appetizer was very good. Very casual dining crowd and lots of kids (who were having fun spotting turtles in the pond.) On the plus side, very, very nice setting. Seating was without delay at our reserved time; service was quite good and friendly so the automatically added 15% tip was OK (the bill had a prominent "feel free to tip more" field.) - 2 drinks, appetizer, salad and mini-hamburger - around $130 for lunch. Glad we've seen the place but not likely to return unless with sightseeing visitors.

Arrived early for our reservation and were immediately seated at a beautiful table waterfront. Excellent and personalized service. Having walked we were a bit overheated and server and assistants kept our water glasses full. Lead server assisted with appetizer choice and recommendation was wonderful. An evening thunderstorm resulted in some wind and rain. Servers, hosts, and manager prompt in responding with glass enclosures and service continued with no interruption. Filets and wine were top notch. Can’t wait to visit again!

The food was good but our waitress wasn’t the best. She was a bit stressed and tried to teach my kids how to behave although they weren’t causing any inconvenience at all. They just hadn’t said please and she insisted and wouldn’t take their orders.
