Central Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
The food was good just a little expensive for what it was. The chicken portion was generous but it was served in a weird bowl that made it hard to eat! I would recommend removing some bones before or giving a sharper knife and putting it on a regular plate. The guy who got the steak was satisfied and the guy who got the pork said it was good but not spectacular. Overall solid spot if you are not on a budget.
Easily accessible location with sophisticated, but not "fancy" vibe. Menu had both familiar and exotic choices, but everything we saw and tasted was superb. Great wine and cocktail list with friendly and attentive staff. Our Thursday night was quiet and only started to get busy around 8.30 pm.
We were welcomed warmly when we arrived. The menu was creative and interesting. In fact, we had a hard time choosing among several items. Service was friendly and helpful. The server answered our questions about ingredients and preparation. My son was disappointed in the glass of wine he ordered; there was nothing wrong with it, it just wasn't very flavorful. He ordered a glass of another wine and I found out when we got the bill that we hadn't been charged for that first glass, even though I had drunk it. Our only complaint was that service fell away when the restaurant got busier, and it took awhile to get the server's attention to get our bill and pay.
My wife and I used to go all the time back 8 years ago. We returned with our family this time around with 3 kids for my wife's birthday. Amazing food as ever and still a good value for the high end food that they offer. Loved it 12 years ago and still love it now! Thank you Central Kitchen!
This was our second visit. The last time, we had good dinning experience. Despite the Friday evening, 60-70% of tables were occupied. Nevertheless, the service was slow and the waiter was not at all attentive. Again, the grilled octopus is highly recommended. Other dishes were not good enough. We were very disappointed.
Having a great meal here before, I wanted to return. This one probably exceeded the last as a very tasty meal in a setting that fits my preferences to a T. The gourmet food, the ambiance and the location are the outstanding points although the service was prompt and attentive. This trip I learned about their upstairs 'speak easy' and want to try it the next time I'm in Cambridge. Many thanks to the staff for a memorable meal.
CK is one of my favorite restaurants in the Boston area. We enjoyed mussels to start, followed by a wonderful bouillabaise for my partner and terrific mushroom polenta for me. We weren't rushed, though the place was beginning to fill by the time we left. A delightful way to enjoy a rainy Friday.
Food was very good. Grilled octopus appetizer was especially so.
We were a party of 4. Two people ordered the chicken (yummy), another the steak frites (also good, but not as good as the chicken in my opinion), and I had the mussels.
We finished with a single order of bread pudding dessert, which we finished.
Considering the restaurant was not especially busy, service was not as attentive as I felt it could have been, though the staff were very friendly.
Overall, I enjoyed my first visit to this restaurant and hope to return and order the chicken entree.
We are visiting our kids in Cambridge. They recommended Central Kitchen, and we had met upstairs in the bar for drinks during a previous visit. Our table wasn't available when we arrived, but the situation was handled very well. After snacks and drinks at the bar, all outstanding, we enjoyed a delicious meal. Highly recommended. We will gladly come back.
I took my parents to Central Kitchen and we all enjoyed it. I love the Caesar salad it's gots tons of yummy dressing and is a very healthy portion. I had the mussels which were sweet and tender and just the right size. My husband had the trout and loved it. I don't love the wine list, the wines all seem a little weird and unfamiliar. The restaurant is VERY noisy, so don't plan a deep conversation. They should put up some sound absorbing panels to make it easier to hear.
Grilled octopus was very soft with good charcoal aroma. It was very surprised to taste such soft octopus outside Japan. Must try! As other review said that the tables close to the door get cold air during the winter. However, I still recommend this restaurant.
The place was nice and service was good overall but they made us wait around 20 minutes for our table. Food was good enough but we didn't die for our our dishes. We ordered the trout which was very tasty but the mushroom and creme fraiche dish was a disappointment. I would recommend it for casual dinner out but don't expect anything fancy or special.
We really liked this restaurant ....once we were moved away from the doorway. We were seated at the table closest to the hallway leading right to the front door. The temperature outside was around 40 degrees (F) and slightly windy. Every time someone entered or left through the front door, we felt the temperature drop 30 degrees; each time, we felt as if we were eating outside on the sidewalk. There were no other tables to which to move us for 1/2 hours and were seriously thinking of leaving until a group finished, leaving a table around the corner available for us. Once we moved, we thought that the rest of our experience was wonderful.
We strongly recommend that the restaurant management find some way to block the cold air so that it doesn't ruin the dining experience of patrons sitting near the door.
The atmosphere and service were good. Attentive and sweet staff. But the food was over priced. The steak frites was not a 30 dollar worthy plate. Tough meat, watercress that was so over dressed we couldn't eat it, fries that were so-so. More like a 20 dollar plate. This place would be amazing if they stepped up their food game a bit. Just refine what's already there.
They were extremely accommodating of my food allergies. After listing my allergies (gluten, dairy, and eggs) on the Open Table reservation, when they seated us a I was presented with a hand-edited version of their menu customized to my dietary needs. The food was still delicious; I didn't feeling like a I was missing any part of the dish by taking out some ingredients. The chef was able to add on other things that fit just as well.
I met a friend there, and we sat at the bar. We ordered three different "small plates." All were delicious, but they were definitely not small. They were all entrée size! The menu was somewhat eclectic--probably not the greatest for vegetarians or people on special diets. But I would go again. The place has an informal feel and is very centrally located near the T .at Central Square.
