Food and service is always excellent. The décor is very nice and the atmosphere is very welcoming. My favorite place in Downtown Crossing
Second time dining in last few months. Great atmosphere & terrific service! We’ll be back!
I chose Central Bistro based on the Open Table reviews and I was not at all disappointed. It’s an unassuming place that you enter through an office building but the food was great, the service was good, and the decor was very welcoming. We got the house made ricotta (absolutely delicious), the fried mushroom salad, and the chicken cordon blu. Definitely coming here again!
Some coworkers and I met here for dinner in the early evening on a weekday. The menu looked promising, but reality was not so great. Appetizers were strangely seasoned and in one case, overcooked. The entrees had little to no seasoning. It was my first time here, so this may have been a blip, but I am not likely to make a return visit unless it's only for drinks.
This is becoming our go to place when we want to have a special lunch. The setting is lovely, the portions are amazing, the quality is wonderful.. well worth it ..
Exceptional restaurant!! New fave. Phenomenal ambiance, food, service and location!! Can’t wait to go back.
Food was mediocre. Server didn’t bring drinks we ordered till after our food arrived. Wife’s salad came with dressing on it despite ordering dressing on the side. Server never came to check on us.
Great French bistro flavors in a quiet setting overlooking the walking street below.
I have been to Central Bistro on a few different occasions. Always a go to for catching up with friends in a relaxed atmosphere or a serious business dinner. Staff is patient when we are a ways in to seating and still haven't looked at the menu as we are all talking. Will come back here again and again.
The food was good but the place was very noisy. Unpleasantly so. Perhaps asking for a table as far as possible from the bar would have helped.
My sister and I were there for dinner before a show at the Opera House. The service could not have been more attentive or prompt. We enjoyed our glass of wine with a great app and our meals came at exactly the right time. The food was delicious and we will be back!
A lovely setting for lunch, meeting old (former) work colleagues. We all got salads, all were very good. No liquor or wine at this meal. Bread was nice; our order of frites got lost in the shuffle. Otherwise a very pleasant meal. You think you're actually in a bistro instead across the street from Macy's.
I recommend Central Bistro restaurant for a tasty business lunch or lunch with friends. The food is very good and the service and location are also good.
Good food and good service on a relatively quiet day. Excellent value.
There is a problem with consistency. I had the fig and ricotta a few weeks ago and the 'toast' was perfectly browned and crunchy. Yesterday I ordered the same thing and there were fewer pieces and only slightly browned. It was still good, but I had the first time in my head.
Great service! Very accommodating for a toddler. Will come back soon
Funky in a good way menu. Lots of choices. Great apps. Mix brunch and lunch. Always time for an omelette!
I order a steak medium rare and it was rare.
Worth driving around trying to find it and then thinking it was in an office building because, it is! Food is very good- ample servings and the wine and cocktail list was ample. Definitely a place to return to.
Lunch appointment turned into beat the clock. Could not find server 30 minutes after placing order. Finally, 40 minutes later, meals arrive not properly....Salads without any dressing. 40 mi items later....Server not to be found. Terribly disappointing. Would not recommend. Previously fined there frequently. Would not go again.
Well, I was looking forward to this one as I am french & convinced my team to book monthly lunch there. Boy, did I pull the shirt straw. I picked the mussels with friends and my first mussel was bad, so I tried another. It was good, but I realized I had lost faith. You can mess with see food. I ordered a veggie soup after that. It was ok & fries were good. They don't have traditional non alcoholic drinks like Diabolo, though.
The ambiance is very pleasant here and the restaurant is near the theater district. The food was good. We had dinner on a Tuesday evening so it wasn't crowded at all. In fact it was a little empty as the evening went on. We were offered a choice of booth or a table by the windows looking over the activity of summer street in front of Macy's We sat in a very comfortable semi-circular booth. The bar behind us was very busy when we first arrived at 6:30. The booth was useful for our business discussion. the food was very good. The only comment I would make is that the server seemed anxious to hurry us along even though the place was almost empty. There were one or two tables still occupied when we left around 8:30. Maybe they are used to a theater crowd in the evening which is intent on making the start of an event.
I’ve been many times and always enjoy it. Service can be slow, so count on an additional amount of time if you’re in a hurry. (The table behind us was there for 10 minutes with no service at all until a diner got up and found someone.) My top layer of mussels were quite cold and the others warm, but I didn’t have time to send them back. I told the waiter when we got the check, but he didn’t really seem bothered by it. My friend’s eggs Benedict were great!
Mediocre food and inattentive waitstaff on evening of November 3rd, 2017.
Our first visit to Central Bistro. Good food, excellent service, attractive surroundings. Only down side (we're older, pre-theater) was the very loud noise coming from the bar. For someone looking for a lively bar scene, this would be a great choice. We would certainly go back, but would try to time it better.
Wonderful food and service!
Server was friendly and attentive. Nice space on the 2nd floor. The food? Meh. Pretty empty on Saturday night. Not sure if that's due to location or the food. Not a destination place.
Our server was wonderful, attentive and nice, the kitchen was incredibly slow, and the food was okay but not terrific. The corn chowder was excellent, the risotto was tasty but very greasy, as was the mushroom flatbread (greasy).
Good option for downtown Boston. Plus I live the ambience, as it feels like I'm not in Boston.
Busy lunchtime but food was great, staff was busy but attentive. Had a great meal.
Quality of food not as good as on several previous visits. Thick French toast was a very thin piece of bread 1/2" thick. Hamburger bun was not fresh. Very disappointing considering how happy I was on previous visits. Don't plan to eat there again.
We were there pre-theater. The ambience was lovely; the service prompt; the food was good and we had a nice view of the street and goings on below.
Dinner before a show. Never knew this place existed until I saw it on OpenTable. Nice atmosphere, cool cocktails. Yummy food. Waitress forgot our orders a few times and didn’t bring our bill until we asked 3 times, but overall a good experience.
Food was good. Changed fries with my steak to carrots and they charged $3. Based on cost of meal, I thought it was a bit chintzy. Also, with people trying to eat healthier, not a good look for restaraunt. Food was good anf would go back again.
Central Bistro needs some resuscitation ! Many years ago it was my favorite neighborhood French Bistro that I would not be embarrassed to take guests to. Not anymore. I've given it many chances over the years and the service (servers seem very disinterested)and food have gone down hill . My daughter and I ordered the Rack of Lamb...."RACK"??? Two tiny chops came but actually they were 4 teeny chops with 2 each stuck together. Each chop was very thin and was basically 'one bite' each. This was our 'dinner entree'! The plate was covered with 8 -10 big slices of potatoes which took up the whole plate and made the serving look large. The sauce was good, as it should be at a french restaurant. My appetizer was Burrata with Fig jam (mind you , figs are in season now) and the small plate came with a clump of burrata and maybe a teaspoon of fig jam-pathetic. We were very hungry when we left. Unless I hear they have changed the kitchen staff, we will not be back. these were not lamb lollipops, it was called a 'rack'!
Went to this restaurant for a pre-theater dinner. Lots of good choices in appetizers and small plates. We shared several. Waitress was attentive but seemed to be trying to rush us a bit. Beautiful setting and great crowd. Would definitely come back.
Our reservations were for 5:00PM and although the restaurant was quiet then, there were soon a lot of groups coming in for dinner. We were in a bit of a hurry to get to the baseball game. They were short staffed - it took quite a while for us to get our meals while other tables were served before us. So, a bit disjointed and the food is good but not memorable, but it's a good and convenient restaurant for this area and I will go back.
Very nice location close to the Boston Opera House. Parking close by. Entrance is around the corner from the 101 Arch St address. Food and apps came without a long wait. Dishes were yummy. Time flew by as it was easy to chat and the booth was very comfy.
Food was great and service was outstanding.
This is one of my regular spots for business lunches with colleagues and networking potentials. The menu isn't overwhelming and changes with season. There's something for most dietary restrictions, if not just ask your server and they'll make something for you.
