We are located in the 101 Arch Street Building in Boston’s Downtown Crossing, accessible via 34 Summer Street. Discounted parking is available at The Hyatt Regency Boston Parking Garage located at One Avenue de Lafayette. With our validation stamp, parking is $10 all night after 4 p.m.
We are located directly above the Downtown Crossing subway stop, which is on both the red and orange lines.

Lunch appointment turned into beat the clock. Could not find server 30 minutes after placing order. Finally, 40 minutes later, meals arrive not properly....Salads without any dressing. 40 mi items later....Server not to be found. Terribly disappointing. Would not recommend. Previously fined there frequently. Would not go again.
Well, I was looking forward to this one as I am french & convinced my team to book monthly lunch there. Boy, did I pull the shirt straw. I picked the mussels with friends and my first mussel was bad, so I tried another. It was good, but I realized I had lost faith. You can mess with see food. I ordered a veggie soup after that. It was ok & fries were good. They don't have traditional non alcoholic drinks like Diabolo, though.
The ambiance is very pleasant here and the restaurant is near the theater district. The food was good. We had dinner on a Tuesday evening so it wasn't crowded at all. In fact it was a little empty as the evening went on. We were offered a choice of booth or a table by the windows looking over the activity of summer street in front of Macy's We sat in a very comfortable semi-circular booth. The bar behind us was very busy when we first arrived at 6:30. The booth was useful for our business discussion. the food was very good. The only comment I would make is that the server seemed anxious to hurry us along even though the place was almost empty. There were one or two tables still occupied when we left around 8:30. Maybe they are used to a theater crowd in the evening which is intent on making the start of an event.
I’ve been many times and always enjoy it. Service can be slow, so count on an additional amount of time if you’re in a hurry. (The table behind us was there for 10 minutes with no service at all until a diner got up and found someone.) My top layer of mussels were quite cold and the others warm, but I didn’t have time to send them back. I told the waiter when we got the check, but he didn’t really seem bothered by it. My friend’s eggs Benedict were great!
Our first visit to Central Bistro. Good food, excellent service, attractive surroundings. Only down side (we're older, pre-theater) was the very loud noise coming from the bar. For someone looking for a lively bar scene, this would be a great choice. We would certainly go back, but would try to time it better.
Central Bistro needs some resuscitation ! Many years ago it was my favorite neighborhood French Bistro that I would not be embarrassed to take guests to. Not anymore. I've given it many chances over the years and the service (servers seem very disinterested)and food have gone down hill . My daughter and I ordered the Rack of Lamb...."RACK"??? Two tiny chops came but actually they were 4 teeny chops with 2 each stuck together. Each chop was very thin and was basically 'one bite' each. This was our 'dinner entree'! The plate was covered with 8 -10 big slices of potatoes which took up the whole plate and made the serving look large. The sauce was good, as it should be at a french restaurant. My appetizer was Burrata with Fig jam (mind you , figs are in season now) and the small plate came with a clump of burrata and maybe a teaspoon of fig jam-pathetic. We were very hungry when we left. Unless I hear they have changed the kitchen staff, we will not be back. these were not lamb lollipops, it was called a 'rack'!
Our reservations were for 5:00PM and although the restaurant was quiet then, there were soon a lot of groups coming in for dinner. We were in a bit of a hurry to get to the baseball game. They were short staffed - it took quite a while for us to get our meals while other tables were served before us. So, a bit disjointed and the food is good but not memorable, but it's a good and convenient restaurant for this area and I will go back.
This is one of my regular spots for business lunches with colleagues and networking potentials. The menu isn't overwhelming and changes with season. There's something for most dietary restrictions, if not just ask your server and they'll make something for you.
Went for lunch on a Friday at noon. We were seated promptly. Food was quick to arrive after ordering. The food was spiced well and not too salty. Main issue though was the consistent rather breezy air circulation which seemed a bit more than needed and ended up cooling off the food too quickly (possibly because it's such a large open space.)
If planning to eat quickly and not converse, the moving air would be fine. However, to converse and not rush, the freshly prepared food cooled off way too quickly due to the continuous breeze. I didn't get to fully enjoy the freshly cut fries since, though they arrived hot, they were room temp in less than 5 minutes. Also, the vegetarian burger I got had a red pepper sauce on top, which I would have preferred on the side since it made the base item soggy pretty quickly, which made it mushy.
Also was a bit more noisy than expected, but overall a very nice experience with friendly attentive staff, a varied menu and thankfully vegetarian options, which I greatly appreciated.

Pathetic as far as a restaurant goes. Staff were friendly and expeditious but the food was not as advertised and the ambience was non-existent. I ordered the Panko-crusted cod and what I got was neither Panko-crusted (floured and fried instead), nor cod (flounder instead).
We went to Central Bistro for an early pre-theater dinner. The food was quite good, sort of avant-garde French. I had a hangar steak, with fires, which was cooked perefectly. We also started off with a burrata and avocado deviled eggs, which were also sumptuous. My wife had a salad with salmon on top, which while good, was not great.
I've eaten here twice so far for pre-theater dining and will definitely return. Both times our food was delicious, hearty and satisfying. It's a bit confusing to find the entrance - the restaurant is on the 2nd floor of any office building overlooking Downtown Crossing/Macy's. The first set of doors was locked, but security guided us to the 2nd set of doors to access the escalators. The restaurant is a big space that on our first visit was quite busy, less so on our 2nd visit (though both were Saturday nights). I'd recommend allowing for plenty of time for pre-theater just in case they get slammed with many tables at the same time.. And bring your appetite. It doesn't appear to be a large menu, but you may have trouble deciding on just one thing. The french onion soup was hearty and flavorful - my favorite. Order the french fries, you know you want to and they're worth it. Crab cakes are small but filling. May have been a bit charred on the edges but I didn't complain - was still delicious. The deviled eggs have a sneaky bite. Mom loved her chicken cordon bleu. I'm not a drinker anymore so I can't comment on the drinks though it appears to be a huge selection of wines. Will definitely recommend this restaurant to others.
Everything we ate was delicious! Great snacks/apps for sharing, delicious entrees...wonderful spot for a nice meal en route to the theaters ... we dined early, so it was extremely quiet when we got there, which made us wary, but people streamed in, and once there was more activity, the vibe was really quite enjoyable - great decor, awesome bar set-up. Overall a great spot, can't wait to return.
This is my most recent lunch at Central Bistro. I have never had a bad meal here. I got the cobb salad with shrimp. The salad was good but the grilled shrimp were wonderful. Fresh and cooked perfectly - still warm. Everyone ate everything on their plate so all four of us enjoyed the meal.
I had Salmon Benedict. The eggs were completely overcooked. The dish was described on the menu as using smoked salmon, which I do not care for so I requested grilled salmon instead. I got 'poached' eggs on an English muffin with a huge serving of grilled salmon on the side!!
My lunch companion enjoyed her meal immensely.
Perhaps my advice is to just stick to the menu, no substitutions. They can't handle it...
