Center Bar Ratings and Reviews
We had reservations at 6pm on Christmas eve. When we arrived we were told the kitchen closes at 6pm. We were taken back, between the restaurant and open table, so you not believe this is something to be known when you book reservations? I have never booked a reservation to sit at a bar and drink. Very confusing.. once we showed our concerns, the staff allowed us to order food very quickly I might add. I do not think we will return.
Hostess was extremely rude. Plenty of spare tables and she advised a 30 minuet wait. I then booked a table online in front of her and she sat us straight away. We ordered drinks and there was lipstick on the glasses! We had high expectations and were extremely let down!
as a general rule, I love small plates, and the small menu offerings here all terrific. They range from good to outstanding. So even though the service is never that great – hard to get the waiters' attention, often have to ask for things twice - and it's a bit pricey for the quantity, the bill isn't is outrageous and the food is excellent and keeps me back in spite of being far away. must haves are the kale-duck confit salad and the grilled cheese.
This is one of my fav bars to come and unwind, not to mention the great view of Columbus Circle. Service by Chris is outstanding. He is very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Always accommodates my table request even when I'm alone. Food menu is short but well put together and delicious. I favor the salmon, Shrimp and different open faced sandwiches. Drinks menu is extensive and well put together. Juan is one of the most gifted bartenders I have ever met. His drinks are strong but well balanced, flavorful and refreshing. You know they are excellent because even with the ice, they don't get watered down.
Really attractive setting on the fourth floor of the Time Warner Center, with a lovely view out over Columbus Circle, Central Park and Midtown. The food was quite good, the grilled cheese and accompanying tomato soup were delicious and the drinks were excellent. There was live piano music by the bar that really set the ambiance. Great place to go for a light pre-show dinner.
Nice place to drop in to after the opera at the Met.
Came for the birthday celebration and was not disappointed. Ask the pianist to play something.
Try the grilled cheese sandwich. May sound "cheesy", but I guarantee you will walk away impressed.
Proof Positive: The only place I have found that serves 15 yr. El Dorado rum, outside of Guyana where it is distilled. 5 stars for that! I have been and partaken in Guyana rum and for this bar to serve it, takes it to a whole other level!
This is located in the mall at Columbus Circle on the 4th floor and it has a beautiful view, especially since it was the holidays and there were giant lit-up stars hanging. It is open air in the mall so there is competing noise from the other venues. However, we were seated next to the piano player who took requests. The menu is small with very interesting small plates that we found just right to share before a concert at Carnegie Hall. It is pretty, festive and romantic.
location, location, location,
went after a jazz show because of the convenience, time (it was late in the evening) and scenery. We waited for over 20 minutes to get a drink, the steak was not cooked as requested (it was too rare and not warm) and it was difficult to get anyone's attention. I asked for a small taste of the wine before committing--- when I told the waitress I did not like it, she failed to return until i complained to the manager. The waitress seemed disengaged with the diners. What could have been lovely was, instead, frustrating.
We had a 5:30 pre-show reservation. At 5:45 we were squeezed into a table for two after being told that the people sitting at our table had been there for two hours and were showing no signs of leaving. When we suggested that perhaps they found be offered a drink at the bar we were told that was not their "policy". When the couple st the table adjacent to us over-heard that remark they stated that they, in fact, had been asked to change tables (they had refused). Finally the four of us were moved to a table for three. Uncomfortable, noisy, and didn't honor reservation.
This is the perfect place to go before a jazz concert. We find the small plates fun and delicious, the service is just right and we like sitting in the outdoor atrium. We've had teenagers with us who are very happy with the burger and non alcoholic spritzers and the wine list has been pleasing to us. We'll go again and again.
We didn't eat just drank because we got there after they stopped serving food.
A little disappointed about the description Open Table gave regarding how you're supposed to be sitting next to the window and able to watch traffic and passerby ; this is inside an upscale shopping center on the fourth floor. However you can see out the floor to ceiling glass door to the mall but not the ambience I thought it was going to be.
