Cellar 49 at Tarrytown House Estate Ratings and Reviews
The Cellar was on the lower level of bidder mansion and we were seated near the fire place which was nice and has a cozy feel. It is nicely decorated, dark and woody decor with some interested old bottles and vintage decor as you walk down into the cellar. The servers greeted us nicely and the place was empty, only about 2-3 tables occupied despite there being no reservations available on open table except that time slot so I expected it to be far more busy and I have a feeling that it does not usually get busy but the waiter did say they were quite busy which was odd. Anyway the rosemary bread they bring out to the table is delicious soft and warm. I had the mule cocktail which was a nice twist on the original. We shared the Caesar salad which was really good with the large bacon pieces, loaded with cheese and the dressing was nice and creamy. It was big enough to share and they do not chop the Romain which was strange at first but I kind of liked it because it was easier to grab and put on your plate. I got the lamb and my husband ordered the burger both cooked to perfection and very juicy, savory, great flavors and good ingredients. My husband really enjoyed the ketchup they used for the burger and fries as it’s more of a homemade slightly chunky ketchup not Heinz I think they said Kensington’s. The service was extremely fast since they were not busy at all. This was the only thing I was not extremely happy about I would have liked to hang a bit more but we felt slightly rushed by the extremely fast service if that makes sense.
Location and atmosphere were amazing. Our waiter was awesome. They were out of a few items we were interested in but dinner was excellent anyway. My one complaint was the salmon was supposed to be served with brocollini but regular broccoli was substituted and there was way way too much if it and it was far too crispy.
Discovered this fabulous restaurant during Hudson Valley Restaurant Week. The food was fabulous and the ambiance great. The waiter was friendly and attentive. The only disappointment was that they don't have the HVRW menu on Friday night, even though the HVRW website said they did. Still, we had a great meal and a wonderful time. The pork belly with cheesy grits was divine! The sauce on the fish tacos was a tad too spicy, so we took most of the "slaw" off the top, but it was really nice that they did them with grilled fish, instead of fried.
Our dinner was delicious! We had Manhattan clam chowder and crab toast for appetizers And for entrees the 16 ounce ribeye and scallops. Everything was cooked to perfect consistency and the portions were large. We finished our meal off with a delicious apple tart. I highly recommend this place. We will definitely be going back.
We had a early reservations so the tables were mostly empty and we weren’t sure what to expect. The ambience was warm and perfect for a Fall evening. Following an expertly crafted cocktail, we ordered off the Prix fixe menu and were extremely happy with the food and service. The Caesar salad was delicious with large crispy bacon pieces and the perfect amount I’df drizzled dressing, the chicken main dish was the perfect idea of comfort food! We finished up with an apple tart a la mode and pumpkin cheesecake which were both absolutely delicious! Would highly recommend!
Nice to see a restaurant that makes desserts with real ingredients, instead of sugary/fake tasting stuff you get at some restaurants. Very pleasant staff, the manager has been there for some time, very pleasant. Always a treat to eat at the former Biddle Mansion.
WE were staying at the Tarrytown Estates that weekend, where Cellar 49 is located. We knew we would be arriving late, so made an 8PM reservation. My friend ended up arriving over an hour late, but the restaurant kept allowing us to change our reservation until 9:15. I think they kept the kitchen open for us! The margarita flatbread was tasty but a little burned, but the chicken casesar salad was delicious.
The French Onion Soup was amazing as well as the Wedge Salad
The unique but enjoyable sauce on the Ribeye was delightful. The chicken was the same. I give the chef 4 stars. Wonderful meal. I would have given them 5 stars, however, the choice of wines were lacking. They did not complement to the food selections available. Put a little more thoughts into raising the level of wine selections to meet with the Outstanding food selection. Overall I would have dinner again there, should I be in the area. I also want to say one last note the serving staff was friendly and very professional. They knew when to approach us and never felt rushed. This is a sign of people who want the dining experience to be a pleasure. KUDO's
Located in the 'cellar' of the Biddle Mansion at Tarrytown Estate House on the Hudson this a mostly nice dining experience. The Veal Chop was cooked perfectly as was the Lamb Tenderloin. We paired this with a 2015 Côtes du Rhône (2014 was on the menu) which was delicious! The ambiance was a little contrived to appear to be wine cellar-ish. Afterwards, at the bar to order a nightcap we found the bartender to be disengaged.. and we're basically kicked out by the manager who stayed "You can take your drinks outside to the firepit!" Makes you wonder why some people are in the service industry!
Mediocre food and poor service. Wait staff was confused with several people asking for drink or food orders. First course was rushed, coming right after drinks arrived, but we waited forever for coffee at the end. They forgot my credit card and I had to go back for it. Had to send food back. My wife ordered lamb "pink" and it came rare. Pub-like atmosphere was acceptable. Great view of the Hudson but from outside, but not from the basement restaurant. Overall poor. Will not return or recommend.
The estate is large so parking was confusing. This was exacerbated by the fact that a truck was blocking our access to the drive. When we finally found the restaurant (a hidden gem) it was empty. It is below ground (hence the name Cellar) so it feels a little dark, but is well appointed with a game room, bar, seating area as well as a separate dining room. The service and food were excellent.
On the grounds of the Tarrytown Estate House which is the home of the Duke estate sits this very impressive restaurant in the cellar of the Biddle Mansion. The steps going down are steep so go slow but when you get there the staff is very friendly.
The prices are good and the portions plenty. We were able to detect most of the flavors. The anchovy paste was not to be found in the plentiful Cesear salad though but all in all a could culinary experience.
Was there 4thJuly weekend, expecting to order pork chop..but they had BBQ Ribs special..delicious..and I know BBQ pork..I lived in Texas‼️...returned Sunday for the pork chop..and as usual, it was outstanding ..
Staff efficient, prompt and friendly..GM remembered me from the 4th...
Absolutely a 'do-over' ...
(Just wished they had a window..oh, wait-its a cellar lol)
My wife and I went for dinner - our cocktails were perfect (TTH Mule and French Martini) and our food was better Rib-eye and chicken also perfect. Our waiter was tentative and helpful and John the manager stopped in to check on us as well. Excellent experience.
Best and biggest pork chop I have had in years. Friendly staff and Maitre d'. Room was not too loud compared to so many these day but it was a Wednesday night. We did have to ask to have the chair rung cleaned as it was greasy- someone must have spilled on it, probably nothing anyone knew about.
Had diner here before going to a show in Tarreytown at the Music Hall.
Food was Excellent. waiter couldn't have been nicer. And to top it off I left my credit card there and they tracked me down and called me to let me know. Went back after the show to pick it up. NOW THAT'S CUSTOMER SERVICE. The grounds surrounding the restaurant are GORGEOUS. Do your self a favor and go early and walk around. Spectacular Setting.
