Celilo Restaurant & Bar
We enjoyed excellent food, atmosphere, and service at Celilo!
Service and ambiance were good. The wine and entree were delicious. We were let down by the dessert and coffee. We ordered the dessert special, a fig tart, which was just a generic puff pastry shell that was too tough on the bottom to cut with a fork. Might have sent it back for something else but it was quite busy by then and the server didn't return after dropping the dessert off. Last little disappointment was old-tasting coffee. Still, we would return.
My husband and I had dinner here for his birthday as part of a special get-away. Our experience at Celilo's was memorable. Exquisite food - we had the beet appetizer with horseradish sauce (who knew that beets and horseradish are so good together?) and the salmon dinner. The salmon had a crispy skin and the inside was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Accompanying vegetables were perfectly cooked, al dente, and complimented the salmon. Dessert was one of my husband's favorite treats: a rootbeer float (how many upscale restaurants offer that - very fun!). The service was impeccable, attentive but not overbearing. Ambience, which I am very picky about, was relaxing with candlelight, just enough ambient lighting and soft jazz in the background. Yes, it's expensive, but well worth it.
My wife and I went on a Sunday night. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. It took a while before a server showed up to take drink order. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Gris. After about 10 minutes the waiter came back and told us that they were “looking” for the wine. Instead of waiting any longer we ordered a different bottle of Pinot Gris that arrived at the table within a minute. It was very good. We asked for a wine cooler to keep it cool. That only arrived after we asked about 15 minutes later about it again. That was not the best start to an otherwise great dinner.
Food was excellent. We had the beet and green salad as appetizers and then the wild salmon.
Other than the service issues with the wine our waiter was nice and helpful.
Loved the ambiance at Celilo and was greeted warmly by host. Service was good enough and food decidedly so so. I was hoping for a much better experience based on reviews and initial feel of the restaurant.
Food was excellent! The service was great! And the location was ideal since we stayed at the hotel directly across the street!
Always welcoming and embracing at Celilo!!!
Cuisine par excellence. Service exceptional.
A must-go restaurant!!!!
Took my Daughter-in-law out for her Birthday...service was great and food delicious!! The desserts are the best!!
Really cute place! I had them make me
a French 75 and it was so good, my husband ended up ordering one too (and is usually just a beer drinker!) Food was spot on. I had the clams and the mixed greens and we shared prawns. My husband had a burger. Our waitress was great and very attentive. Overall great experience for us as we were visiting from out of town. 10/10 would recommend!
We enjoyed a lovely dinner on 9/21/19 - each an appetizer, main dish, and dessert. The skillet clams were delicious and a very generous portion. The other appetizer was a caprese salad made with burrata, heirloom cherry tomatoes and a bit of melon. Not sure the melon improved the salad, but it was an interesting variant. Mains were a pork chop and a succotash made with local vegetables (we added 3 grilled shrimp for protein as suggested by our server). Both were well made and presented but it's a little hard to justify the menu price of the succotash. Desserts were both outstanding - volcano cake and a chilled lemon yogurt concoction (reminiscent of lemon cheesecake, but lighter) topped with a plum compote. Oh - 2 cocktails as well - both excellent. Spring Fling and Smoked Thyme Paloma I think were the names of them.
We went for our anniversary and had a wonderful time! From the appetizers to our dessert, everything was exceptional. We’ll definitely be back!
Food was excellent and our waitress, Stacy, was knowledgeable and personable! We ate there two nights while in town and both experiences were exceptional.
This is such a nice restaurant, but we were disappointed in our food. The jerk chicken dish was good, not too spicy, with lots of tasty corn and green beans. But the vegetarian gnocchi dish was way too spicy - so much so that all the vegetables had the same flavor, and the gnocchi was mushy with no flavor except spice. To give great credit to the restaurant, they ask detailed questions about why I didn’t like the dish and gave me credit for my wine. We hope to return and try a different entree.
We loved the menu and each dish was beautifully conceived and executed.
Great food and fantastic service. Best restaurant in Hood River!
The vegetables and fruit were farm fresh. The prime rib was very tender. Overall the meal was amazing.
Our dinner at Celilo was to celebrate our anniversary and simply wonderful. The meal was simply spectacular, the service excellent, and our cocktails and wine perfect.
Great find in Hood River. Food, service and ambiance were outstanding. If I lived in Hood River I’d be there every night.
Our entire party was very disappointed with the quality of the food, especially for the price
We love Celilo. Always a great meal and fantastic service.
great food and server. we had a wonderful time celebrating our second wedding anniversary.
The only negative was OpenTable gave us reservation options before 6 or after 8pm. While we were there from 5:45 to 7 pm, we saw many available tables which we could have reserved for later dinner time. However, once there, we truly enjoyed the service and food.
Waiter was wonderful! When asked for suggestions and help deciding his recommendations were Spot On. The food was delicious. I highly recommend it. We would be regular customers if we didn't live 4 states away!
If you enjoy fine dining, this is a great choice. Friendly service, nice bar and lots of interesting menu options. We tried both of the evening's chef special offerings, smoked beef rib and succotash. They were excellent! Gnocchi was also great.
Traveling with California family members who’d never visited the Gorge, we stayed three nights in White Salmon and dined in Hood River. Celilo was our favorite restaurant because of the ambience, service, meals and wine. We’ll be back!
Great hospitality, the steak and salmon were perfection. Love the space and the touches. The Panorama of the river in the hallway was a piece of history for me personally, so very much loved this place.
This was our second dinner a Celilo in two weeks. We have appreciated our waiter, John, as well as the delicious specials for appetizer and entree...fig appetizer and wonderful halibut. The wine selections were perfect. We will return soon!
Our server was very helpful. The food was perfect. Nice laid back place with a patina of upscale.
As was true of our first meal here a year ago, the fish entrees were excellent, well prepared and attractively presented. What stood out this time was the unusually attentive and cheerful service. Any complaints? None that were the fault of the restaurant. But we’ll just never learn much to like halibut, at least not as compared with the salmon alternative that is always available.
The food was so very delicious and as good as in any fine restaurant in a major cosmopolitan area. A real gem in Hood River!
Had a lovely dinner ar Celilo. Started with the clams appetizer (flavorful and delicious) and had the pork chop (juicy and tender very good sized portion). My husband had the gnocchi and loved it (they were nice and light not heavy) and finished my dinner for me as well! We split a volcano cake (yum!) for dessert. We both really liked the house margaritas and dinner was surprisingly affordable for such an upscale place. Would definitely recommend.
There were six of us. I ordered their current pan-seared pork dish that was unbelievably good, with so many flavors. One in our party ordered a cheese, nuts, fruit starter that consisted of a platter with scattered very small pieces of cheese, small bowl with a few olives and a small bowl of Spanish almonds. Skip that. Eat the bread instead. Three had the Columbia River salmon which presented as very small sections of fish; skip that if you are hungry. My husband ordered the sausage and broccolini pasta which would have been perfect if he could have 'found' the sausage. With careful inspection, he discovered 3 molecular pieces. Ridiculous. Don't order their pasta. We did not order dessert. I have to say, I watched the bartender as I had a bird's eye view. If you order wine by the glass, accept the fact that you will not receive one drop more than he/she deems excessive. I have never seen anything so carefully measured and this was not my first rodeo. Don't order glasses of wine; bring your own special wine and pay the $15 corking fee. If we are in the area once again, we will return, but we will take our own wine, and we will both order their pork.
Awesome food. Awesome service!
Celilo was just downright great! Really fresh, local food that was just outstanding, and our waiter was terrific, recommending a great wine to go along with our meal. Wish we had room to try the desserts.
Wonderful food; very nice staff and good atmosphere. Good value too!
Nice restaurant, good food, and great service.
We try to dine at Celilo when we are in the Hood River area. Salads are fresh and seasonal, and the pasta dishes never disappoint! The wine list is well-appointed, cocktails are well-crafted, and service is excellent.
Really delicious food. Nice atmosphere and good staff. The food was the highlight!
One of my favorite restaurants in beautiful Hood River. The food and service are always excellent.
As always a fantastic meal, excellent cocktails (although the Habanero infused Tequila was somewhat of a surprise) and unbelievably superb service. I am looking forward to finding the marinero paella on the menu.
