Celestino Ratings and Reviews
My experience here was phenomenal. The food was excellent, the server was very friendly and professional, and one small thing that makes a big difference for me is high quality bread served warm, especially at a nicer restaurant such as this one. They were a great example of serving complimentary bread perfectly. Could not be more pleased with my experience.
My husband and I picked this Italian spot for our anniversary. The food was pretty good. I had the Cacio Pepe nice simple pepper and cheese past. My husband had the lasagna it was good but the fresh English peas made it a little weird. The only thing I didn't like was the service. We entered the restaurant and the guy (which I don't think was the host) said table for two. I said yes. I then said I have a reservation and he just noded his head. After he sat us I was like how do you know what reservation we are if you didn't even ask my name. Then he proceeded to ask my name. I thought that was really weird how would the server know we were celebrating our anniversary if you don't know who we are. I work in a high end restaurant so I know expectations of how service is suppose to go. My husbands water was empty through half of the dining experience and was asked if he wanted a refill after we had paid. Which just means they were ready for us to go. Throughout the entire experience we never even received a simple "Happy anniversary" from any of the staff. It really ruined the experience. This is our first time in LA and it was our anniversary and it meant nothing to them no hospitality.
Great restaurant from start to finish. We had an early 5:30 Saturday reservation and were seated promptly. Service was great and the staff was very pleasant. Multiple waiters and staff helping us which was really nice. Food was very good and authentic. Kids were able to split the spaghetti entree(no kids menu: but not a problem) and the parking is free in the back. We drove 35 miles to dine there and weren't disappointed.
I have now been here twice. My wife and I returned because our first experience was a really good culinary experience. This time it was not. The fish was cooked to death leaving us with no choice but return it to the kitchen and the garnish accompanying the main courses was a joke with old carrots. The tiramisu was not fresh, it looked like it had just been taken out of the freezer as it was very doggy and watery.
For the price of the dishes, this restaurant needs to do better in order for regain our business in the future.
I've eaten here at least two-dozen times over the years. This particular occasion was dinner with friends, including a chum hadn't seen in 20 years. Celestino's service is always good: attentive without being fussy. Our waiter had an excellent sense of humor and steered us in the right direction with the wine. The food, overall, is very good. I had the rib-eye with pesto sauce. Was it the greatest steak I've ever had? No. That one was probably at the late, lamented Celestino Steakhouse in L.A. about 17 years ago. So it was impossible not to compare the two. Still and all, a fine place for terrific Italian food in Pasadena. By all means, check it out.
This is the best Italian restaurant in my experience, as Italian myself, in 18 years in the United States. The cooks are of very high quality, and cook authentic Italian food, the way that it should be cooked. Dinner was delicious from bread, oil, wine, and entries. Waitress es were very polite.
Everybody should try Celestino!
Celestino's Italian food that is not the run of the mill stuff found in most local Italian restaurants. We loved the pasta dishes. The only slightly annoying thing was the waiter didn't warn us that the pasta special was twice the price of similar pasta on menu. I should have asked. While it was good it wasn't $28 worth of great.
Always a pleasure to dine here. The food is extraordinary and served extremely professionally. The patio is a perfect place to dine with a friend or business guest and the wait staff was conscious of making the service unintrusive yet very attentive. Every Italian dish was delightful and speaks to the success of the Drago family in creating great food in their various locations throughout the Los Angeles area. The food in not overpriced given the wonderful ambiance of the restaurant and I will continue to return to Celestino's for wonderful dining experiences throughout the years. Certainly well worth the trip to Pasadena whether a local to Los Angeles or a visitor to the area. Bravo Celestino!!!!!!!
We have gone to this restaurant several times. The gnocchi with truffles was excellent. I also had the chopped salad with grilled shrimp which was very good. The service had a lot to be desired. Our order was taken after other tables around us that were seated after. We sat there with our menu closed and waiting about 15 minutes. Once we recieved our salads we sat there again waiting for our dirty plates to be cleared until we flagged someone down. Service was very disappointing. They didn't seem to have enough staff to support the people dining on the patio. This is not the first time we have experienced poor service on the patio. If you done here eat inside as the service is much better.
Celestino's has been my family's favorite Italian restaurant for many years. We have celebrated many occasions - including birthdays, anniversaries, college graduations, etc. there. I recently had lunch with a new friend who just moved to Pasadena from the Chicago area and he LOVED it and plans to introduce his wife to Celestino's.
Nice overall but waiter did not give us split order on dinner enter that we asked for and still charged us for two full dinners after we brought to his attention. Also we asked for one extra glass of wine and he brought two and of course charged for both. If you are not careful they will up sell you and act like they didn't know. Happens often here.
Been to Celestino's twice now, and the service and food were both exceptional. It's a bit of a drive for us, but we will be going at least every couple months. We have an annual Christmas dinner with a group of best friends and we are considering Celestino's for this year's event. We met Simone (the owner), on our first visit and he was our waiter on our second visit. Homemade pasta is to die for. We highly recommended this restaurant.
Celestino remains a reliable fixture on the Pasadena dining scene. The daily specials usually have a few quite creative dishes -- Italian staples with a twist -- and the every day menu doesn't disappoint. The wine list is very good and the waiters don't "upsell" beverages outrageously. Regular guests are greeted like old friends and treated well. Whether for a business lunch or a special occasion, you can't really go wrong at Celestino, and the prices have remained within reason.
