Well, we had a great dinner and evening in a world where dining out is often underwhelming and oh so not special. The service was just right, the plated food was savory and well-balanced for flavor and presentation. We had the filet mignon/porcini stuffed ravioli and the ½ lobster with crabmeat on fresh made pasta. The salad appetizer was arugula and artichoke with pecorino cheese topped with a complimentary, light dressing that persistently brought the perfect refreshing touch to the simplest dish.
Excellent calamari special. Fabulous arugula salad special. Eggplant Parmesan not as tasty as usual it was breaded even though I asked beforehand to confirm there was no breading.
Good as always.
Absolutely delicious! We started with minestrone soup that was delightful. I had the jumbo scallops over cannelloni beans that were tasty and cooked to perfection! My husband had the Osso Bucco shank and he said it tasted extraordinary. The table service was impeccable and the value great! We will be coming back soon!
Always love Celestino's. Great food. Great service. Wonderful lunch on the patio.
Wonderful food, outstanding service.
The right risotto with seafood and squid ink sauce was phenomenal.
Celestino has always been my favorite Italian restaurant in Pasadena. I introduced a friend to the place yesterday as he had never been there before. I'm quite sure he will return.
Food - especially pasta - never disappoints! Love dining there!
Food is usually excellent. It would be nice for the place to be updated.
Food is always exceptional. Lemon drop was made to perfection Merlot was excellent. Drink prices were a tad high but amount of liquid was more than adequate. Dessert pudding was downsized from last time we were there. Cappuccino was tasteless which was quite surprising for an Italian drink.
I had read great reviews of this restaurant and was looking forward to going. I also had called ahead to alert them that this was a very special occasion (mother's 85th birday) but there was no acknowledgement of that and the service we received was TERRIBLE. Our waiter was surly and impatient.
The food was good - but again, the terrible service we received colored the whole evening. I was very unhappy because I wanted this to be a special meal and evening for my mother's birthday, but it was the polar opposite.
The food looked good but it had no flavor. My dad got sick from the fish.
This place doesn’t even deserve a one star! The service is non-existent and they are absolutely rude! I checked in with the hostess and she says nothing to me to acknowledge that I’m good to go. Then a waiter bumps into me when I have clearly been standing in the same spot with the rude hostess. We get seated and our waiter with a bad Italian accent tells us all their specials, which apparently they have 15 different “specials”. When he finally finished, we reviewed our menus. Then another waiter comes up and proceeds to attempt to tell us about their specials. We stopped him before he proceeded with the long list as once was enough. We ordered our food, which was mediocre. I had the pappardelle with mushrooms. It was really salty yet unexciting all at the same time. Not very flavorful...not very good Italian. I had a few bones in my pasta, which made me chip a tooth. Then we kept trying to get a waiter’s attention for our check because not once did they come back and ask how our food was or if we needed refills of our beverages. When we finally got a waiter to give us our check, he made the snide remark “in a rush huh?”. Yeah, in a rush to get the heck out of your notorious establishment!
The best restaurant in Pasadena! The food and service are top notch 👍.
Salad, Pasta and Desesert was excellent. Steak had no flavor. Italian speaking waiter was great.
You can always count on Celestino's to be consistent. I had the lasagna which was excellent and my friend had a small salad with artichockes and cheese layered on top; she loved it! Friendly and excellent service. I always love the atmosphere!
You know that favorite Italian restaurant that you can always go to and it meets your expectations consistently. Celebrated a daughter's recent birthday, the executive chef comes to wish her a happy birthday and says I remember when you first came here you drank milk, now a martini. That's how consistent they are!
I made a reservation and we arrived the table was ready. The food was excellent and presented beautifully. It was crowded but since very pleasant. It was my friend’s birthday and desert was delicious.
Excellent food and service. Quiet on a Monday evening.
We have been going here for many years, it is our go to for a date night. But on the last 2 occasions we have been disappointed. My Dover sole was delicious but the vegetables cold, my husbands pasta hot in the middle but cold on the outside. They were very apologetic and took it back but the vegetables were still lukewarm when they returned. The calamari was really salty. Carlos was fantastic and brought us a dessert and some grappa to compensate, but we won’t rush back.
The service is always great. The art on the wall illustrating Venice views are beautiful. The food is of high quality every time we visit.
We were very happy to share it with our friends.
Our second visit for dinner and once again, enjoyable from the moment stepping in, to the moment stepping out. This time we brought another couple with us and they too enjoyed! All around service was great, from hostess, bartender, table! Food and dessert delish! We shall return.
Service was not good. I ordered a vodka tonic and got straight vodka. When I told the waiter it was not a vodka tonic he took the drink back to the bar and filled it to the brim with tonic. He then brought it back to the table where it proceeded to spill all over the table cloth. He should have taken the drink away and made a new drink!
Good servers, excellent menu and specials. Prices a bit high, especially $11.00 for a bowl of soup.
Tables are close together, so fairly noisy.
The food and service were excellent.
As always the food is wonderful. It was a little noisy, but a lot of families were there, so you had to realize kids are noisy. The service is always very good and we enjoy being there to enjoy the food. They never hurry you out at the end of the meal, so you can continue talking.
We went there for a birthday---had never been there before---needed something early and to get us out to go to the theatre on time.
The entire experience was excellent. 5 meals and starters were ordered--and each serving was perfectly prepared with quality ingredients. The staff were outstanding, professional and got us out in time. The food was wonderful. The wine list is expansive and has all price ranges of good selections.
When I am in Pasadena next for dinner, I will look forward to going back.
Celestino is a great Italian restaurant in Pasadena. Place is always busy, feels like a restaurant in Italy. Food is amazing, I love the Spaghetti al Frutti de Mare and the Risotto. Great place to celebrate birthdays or just have a good plate of pasta.
Good pasta dishes and our server was nice, however, the kitchen was backed up and dinner took over an hour to get to us. I assume this isn't an everyday issue.
The restaurant was overbooked and hectic. Servers were overwhelmed at times taking an inordinate amount of time to servewater, bread, wine list and menu. A totally disorganized sequence of events. The calamari appetizer was excellent my main course black and white pasta with clams was tasteless. My wife did not receive what she ordered but she accepted it anyway given the events leading up to the mistaken order.
Awful service and no one seemed to care, least of all the pool of waiters standing around!
Celestino is generally an excellent restaurant, and I would highly recommend it. However, this last Saturday night, February 16th, they had way too few waiters. The wait was excessively long for the food. Despite having made a reservation, they failed to provide us with an adequate table. I'm hoping they just had an off night but even the food was not up to their usual standards. Signed, Alan K
We were seated at the end of a walking area right next to the bathroom. Since we had a reservation this was not cool. Then there was some giant group that had to wait for seating and they were all over the restaurant, including hovering at our table. Very unpleasant, poor handling of excess crowd. The specials were delivered hurriedly as were the desert choices
The Host was overwhelming. She messed up the check in arrangement. There are some people come from front door and some come from back door. Obviously it is a favorite local restaurant as many people who come are local people. Food is excellent. It was very busy and tables are very closed each other. Waiters are professionals.
Graci Mile. The evening was perfect. The food, the service, the wine All Molto Bene.
Celestino never disappoints. Owned by the Drago family Great pastas and fish. Certainly one of the best restaurants in all of Southern California
Celestino has been in Pasadena forever. Yes, the decor may be a bit dated, but this is an old school Italian restaurant where the waiters remember you, service is flawless, and the food is very good. Menu is large and they do have specials every night. Majority of the pasta is made fresh in house. The is our "go to" Italian restaurant if we want a great meal in a relaxing atmosphere.
Went on valentines day and was overall a great experience. I will be going again. Food was great service was great even tho it was busy.
We have been here many times over the years and usually enjoy. However(and I know it was Valentines)this time it was terrible. Service was awful-waited 30 min to even order a drink, even longer to order food. Had to ask over and over for water. Then waiter (a regular) was never around and clearly forgot about us even though we were in the main dining room and he walked by us constantly. Food was cold and had obviously been sitting for a long time before served. A very disappointing evening.
Terrible experience. Overbooked. Extremely crowded. We booked our reservation 10 days before. They sat us at a small table 2 feet from the front door. Customers and waiters were opening and closing door and wind would blow everything off our table. No one attempted to assist us. I informed the receptionist we were leaving. Went to another restaurant and had a great time. We have eaten at Celestino’s many times. Will never go back.
