Celestino is a great Italian restaurant in Pasadena. Place is always busy, feels like a restaurant in Italy. Food is amazing, I love the Spaghetti al Frutti de Mare and the Risotto. Great place to celebrate birthdays or just have a good plate of pasta.
The restaurant was overbooked and hectic. Servers were overwhelmed at times taking an inordinate amount of time to servewater, bread, wine list and menu. A totally disorganized sequence of events. The calamari appetizer was excellent my main course black and white pasta with clams was tasteless. My wife did not receive what she ordered but she accepted it anyway given the events leading up to the mistaken order.
Celestino never disappoints. Owned by the Drago family Great pastas and fish. Certainly one of the best restaurants in all of Southern California
Celestino has been in Pasadena forever. Yes, the decor may be a bit dated, but this is an old school Italian restaurant where the waiters remember you, service is flawless, and the food is very good. Menu is large and they do have specials every night. Majority of the pasta is made fresh in house. The is our "go to" Italian restaurant if we want a great meal in a relaxing atmosphere.
Went on valentines day and was overall a great experience. I will be going again. Food was great service was great even tho it was busy.
We have been here many times over the years and usually enjoy. However(and I know it was Valentines)this time it was terrible. Service was awful-waited 30 min to even order a drink, even longer to order food. Had to ask over and over for water. Then waiter (a regular) was never around and clearly forgot about us even though we were in the main dining room and he walked by us constantly. Food was cold and had obviously been sitting for a long time before served. A very disappointing evening.
Terrible experience. Overbooked. Extremely crowded. We booked our reservation 10 days before. They sat us at a small table 2 feet from the front door. Customers and waiters were opening and closing door and wind would blow everything off our table. No one attempted to assist us. I informed the receptionist we were leaving. Went to another restaurant and had a great time. We have eaten at Celestino’s many times. Will never go back.
Our waiter was great, very knowledgeable and you could tell he had been working there a long time. The food was delicious!
Very good food but Valentine's Day crowd put a stress on the service.
Valentine’s Day date with my wife. Let me start with the food which was excellent. We got a caprese salad which was excellent with a healthy serving of burrata. My wife got the branzino and I got the shrimp and lobster ravioli. All the food was excellent. Problem was the service. Arriving at the hostess desk one of the hostesses has trouble answering the phone and the other had trouble looking up reservations. When seated it was at a table outside that had a poor tent covering and was cold and windy. The wait staff was all over the place. They couldn’t seem to get the table numbers right so that led to multiple dishes being offered to our table we didn’t order. Also tried to charge us for a glass of wine we didn’t order.
The food , service, and ambiance were excellent. Will be sure to let our friends and family know.
Portions are small overpriced and not that great of service
The food wasn’t bad. Good taste. Service was not great. Our waiter who was a older gentleman just seemed over it. It was Valentine’s Day. But at the same time our reservation was only at 5pm so the evening had just begun. I don’t know. The location of our seats were not to my fiancé liking. It didn’t bother me much. The guy busing the tables was very helpful and the valet serviceman was great also.
This place is terrific! Authentic cuisine in the heart of Pasadena!
Lovely place to eat - food was delicious and our server was delightful. If you want a quiet intimate dinner this is probably not the place. They sit many tables Bistro style so you can hear and converse with anyone sitting next to you. And although I couldn't figure out why the noise level was Staples Center Loud. They have a few tables in other smaller rooms/alcoves and maybe that would be better. But again the Food and Service were wonderful. I had pumpkin stuffed tortellini - freshly made -with a really smooth and wonderful taste.
First we were sat outside, with a broken heater, told by hostess to bring us inside from the cold it would take 15 minutes. She never came back. Then we placed our order, when a couple was sat next to us, with the same waiter explaining the specials- which we were never explained. When we told him he hadn’t give us the specials he said when we asked if we were ready to order and we had said yes. No apology. Missed the whole point. Never was asked if I wanted cheese on my pasta. What a horrible Valentines Dinner memory.
Some members of our party arrived first and were not even acknowledged by the hostess for 10 minutes. There was a line to get seated even though we had reservations. The hostess took more than 20 minutes to give us the menus. We never received the wine list. It took more than 20 minutes for a waiter to show up. We were asked what we wanted to drink without looking at a wine list or drink menu. Our party felt as if we were being told “hurry up and order something to drink, you don’t need to look at the menu.”Good food, terrible service.
Always delicious. The waitstaff is always on their game. Very attentive.
Very good food. Only complaint was the tables were very close to each other. Could have used a bit more space between patrons.
Lunch time was not crowded so we got excellent service. The drinks were strong and delicious. They had a great selection of food. The waiters were very attentive and made us feel welcomed. Everyone enjoyed their food.
As always, everything was very good. It is an extremely popular place, because they keep their standards high.
Wonderful food, wonderful atmosphere -last of elegant Italian restaurants.
We usually go to Celestino’s for lunch. Dinner was busier and noisier but the staff handled everything efficiently and the food was its usual high quality.
Always great food and great service. Music too loud and noise level very high due to full house.
If it wasn’t for a rude waiter, it might have been better. When he was taking my order for an appetizer (bland minestrone, unfortunately), I told him I wasn’t ready to order an entree. He became annoyed and abruptly announced that he couldn’t put any orders in until I decided.. I asked about the Halibut special, and when best time of year was for this. He clearly didn’t like my question and told me “all year.” He just didn’t have the time to let me look through a very extensive menu with some great options.
The Branzino was good, but not great. Our friends pasta special with lobster was excellent.
He was determined to rush us through dinner..enough to put a damper on even good food.
It’s a busy restaurant but this guy was too interested in turning over his table. Too bad.
Great food l, service & ambience. Authentically Italian.
Servers Antonio & Giuseppe made our dining a pleasure. Owner Calogero is a welcoming presence. A great lItalian treasure.
Always excellent. Had veal chop for dinner. Prepared perfectly. Great service. Love Celestino's
One of my favorite places -- best food and most amazing service!
Down here because we have a appointment tomorrow at the City of Hope and we love eating at Celestino ‘s.
Best Italian restaurant around.
Great high-end authentic Italian food. The decor and atmosphere are okay, but very noisy if you are in main dining room. Our waiter was excellent, had great recommendations, and spoke fluent Italian. I would definitely recommend this place based on the food and service alone. We will be back soon.
Celebrated my parents 55th wedding anniversary
I didn’t like the house special and waiter was quite rude about it. I had to explain for way too long before he took my plate and asked if I wanted a replacement. By this time I just wanted to get out of there. Won’t be back.
Great evening with my amazing wife. Service and good were both outstanding. We had the calamari to start (amazing and fresh) then wild boar ragu and lobster linguini (both were extremely tasty) and then. Lemon tart for desert. Yes we were stuffed!!!
Took a friend who had never been there before because I love the place. We went with the Dine LA menu which turned out to be a mistake. It was good but not indicative of how good the restaurant really is. I would've hoped they would showcase some of their well known dishes
I was very disappointed. I ordered the Osso Bucco with risotto and it was bland. Needed salt and was not impressed at all. We went at the start of dinner, the hostess had not arrived they didn’t have the dine la menu, have us the lunch menu, then found the dinner menu. We ordered what the waiter recommended and was unhappy, not to mention to for my friends order wrong and then offered something different from the lunch menu. I would not recommend it. I had stated that we were there for a birthday and they never even acknowledged it, we all ordered dessert and no happy birthday to either one of my friends celebrating one.
The food was great and the price was fair, the servers all seem to speak Italian, making the experience quite exotic. However, we were forced to pay 20% gratuity without any forewarn and I think that's not very righteous.
Love Celestino's. had the special lobster and crab pasta. It was amazing! Included half a lobster. REALLY! Alwaus great services, delicious food and a terrific ambiance. Highly recommend.
I go to Celestino often but this time noticed prices have gone up and we didn't get the cake for birthday. Service was ok but not as great as it was. Maybe a Monday night with lots of clients.
Seated in an awkward table that had one of our guests in the walkway.
Drago's Pasadena restaurant was a drag. From the hostess in jeans to the waiter's brusque demeanor, to the lack of a wine list incorporating by-the-glass selections (making it impossible to know the choice of vintners or the price), to the white fish cooked to smitherines, Celestino was a disappointing experience. As far as other food was concerned, the spinach apple pecorino salad was enjoyable; the pasta was just OK and obviously not prepared fresh, and the lingering question was whether ordering the "specials" instead of selections from the rumpled menu would have provided a better culinary experience. The overall impression was one of indifference and inconvenience coming from the restaurant and definitely not worth what it cost.
