Enjoyed the meal and restaurant!! Bread was yummy. Service was great and the servers were very good. Will definitely be going back :)
OK, we got there and there were several tables outside. We requested to seat there. we had arrived a bit early. We ordered an appetizer and the waiter brought bread and water right away. We reviewed the wine menu and the specials were shared with us.
We both ordered off the special menue as well as a soup starter. the soup came right away but it took over an hour to get our entre--OVER AN HOUR!!! We had to ask and he came back stating that it should be right up. 10 minutes later he came with 2 plates of ravioli because the chef dropped my fish and they had to start over. The portion on the ravioli was minimal and really not what the waiter had said it was. My fish finally came and it was nothing exciting. The fish was not seasoned at all and the lemon sauce was really not very special. Red lobster honestly would do better. In spite of this, we chose a dessert which again took another 15 minutes and it was delicious. We asked for our bill right away and finally had to ask someone else to take up our credit cards. They never offered a discount on the bill for the very long wait. The outdoor seating was beautiful but the food not worth the wait.
Any restaurant with professional waiters and owner/host is simply fantastic as the quality control happens before you even know it. The waiters are top notch! Food is always delicious and the specials never disappoint! Excellent Cosmo's from the bar always! This place is always a special treat! Valet parking to boot! Keep up the great work!
Our first visit. Overall enjoyed the experience. The waiter was amazing. Started with Burrata, it was great, but could have been served with small crostini rather than having to spread it on the table bread. Pasta was the linguini - lobster special. Pasta was excellent but the sauce seemed to overpower for the lobster and crab meat . We asked the waiter for a recommendation on a clean semi dry white. He selected a Gavi, which was delightful. We both ordered fish for the main, my wife had the halibut, served with an olive/tomato sauce and I had the sword fish with butter/caper sauce. The sword fish was yummy. The sauce on the halibut also seemed to overpower the fish. The only negative on the service was the fish dishes came out before I was completely finished with the pasta. The waiter again brought us the dessert and surprised us by saying if we do not like what he chose, he would pay for it. He brought out my favorite, panna cotta, in this case with fresh strawberries. Even though a few things could have been better, our first visit was a fun experience and we will certainly return.
The waiter was lovely. The street patio has too many tables and the chairs are seriously uncomfortable. Consider adding ceiling fans to move the car exhaust and people smoking on the sidewalk fumes out. We all ordered different items and the food was unfortunately nothing special.
Food is always great. Ordered Mushroom soufle as it is a must.
Hostess flubbed the seating. A couple arriving at the same time with no reservation was seated before us at the last table. We waited past our reservation time to be directed to a tiny table in the corner that was set up to correct the error, only to be told by the server that it was “too tight to work” and we were subsequently UNseated. We waited further while the hostess informed us “our table is right over there, they’re paying right now.” Another 15 min goes by while she paces the restaurant trying to locate the imaginary table who is paying and about to be done. Finally, we were seated at a small table in a thoroughfare near the kitchen (nowhere near the direction of the ‘our table’) and served by 5 different people who got their wires crossed all night. Clearly this seating was thrown together last minute and not part of the regular dinner service. During this fiasco, the word “sorry” was not uttered once by anyone. All it would take to alleviate the tension would have been an apology and the offer of a glass of water and a seat for my wife who was in a post-surgical boot and cane. We love the pasta here and had not been in a couple years. Either they were having an off night or service has tanked. What a letdown.
Very pleasant lunch experience with a new friend. Foid excellent
We always enjoy having dinner at Celestino! The food is very good! The service is friendly, welcoming and very good!
Wonderful evening! The menu is so broad and everything is delicious. We all ordered different items and each was fabulous! I come here every time I’m in the Pasadena area. Two thumbs up!!
Always enjoy Celestino’s. Great service. Terrific food. Highly recommend
Delicious food, great service, good wine. Pleasant atmosphere.
Dinner with my family
Quiet on Tuesday evening and staff very friendly as usual.
Celestino's never disappoints. The food is excellent and the service is very good. We've gone there for several special occasions and love the special attention.
Last minute decision to go out for dinner. I never have to guess if we will have a good time and a good meal at Celestino. The servers are simply outstanding. The food is fresh. The pasta al dente and the range of sauces available is incredible. I have loved this place since I moved here 4 years ago. Always a sure bet. Thank you for the service tonight. We had a great time.
Wonderful delicious as always. Have been regular customer for over twenty years.
Best Italian food I’ve had in the three years I’ve been in Pasadena
This restaurant has some of the most authentic Italian food in L.A.. One of the best restaurants in Pasadena. The homemade pasta is amazing.
Waiter said Lobster and crab linguine was in a cream sauce. It wasn’t it was a marinara sauce. Really large difference especially when you’re talking about seafood. Overlooked and ate it although I never would’ve ordered it like that. Completely not a fan of the fra diavolo style. Then the “meat lasagna” is actually only about an inch tall and is spinach lasagna and a pinkish type sauce with peas and a tiny little bit of meat in between. That is not meat lasagna my friends. If that’s how they make it, it should be described in the menu as such. When I very kindly told him this he tried to play it off saying well that’s how we make it. I’m sorry, but meat lasagna is meat lasagna. Not spinach lasagna with peas. There’s only one way to make it. Anything else is a variation and should be noted. Average at best. Won’t return.
Celestino's is a favorite every time. It feels like a neighborhood trattoria.
Food and wine were great! Antonio was our waiter and he was so fun and knowledgeable. Prices were reasonable for delicious food. We are definitely going back.
For Italian CAN'T beat this place; great food and service consistently
first visit to Celestino in years was a pleasant surprise. Service much more attentive; food reliably prepared and flavorful. our table was awkwardly placed in narrow passage between door and host station and opposite the bar. in general, though, worth another visit.
Smallest portions ever. Entre was smaller than most appetizers at a real restaurant. The one brussels sprout cut in half to compliment the 3 bite sized piece of meat was a nice touch. haha! Quality was so-so anyhow, so maybe not worth the calories. Would not go back. We went for burgers after.
The waiter we got was very brusque and unhelpful. When asked for the wine list or cocktail list, he just said right away there's none and rattled off a list of cocktails in a terse manner. He only produced one grudgingly when we insisted. When we asked for other stuff, he was just very impatient like he doesn't have time for us. When my friend was telling him of the concerns, he just said that he'll just get another waiter. The next waiter was not that much better. When asked for a manager or supervisor, we were told there's none, which is so weird. We will not go back there again.
The server did not give eye contact and was not that attentive. My capellini was okay, but the chicken was very dry. I took my leftovers home, but threw them away since the pasta was rather greasy.
This is by far our favorite Italian restaurant in pasadena, we have been coming here since they opened. Tonight was the worst service we have ever had. We waited 1.5 hours for our meal and for the first time I sent back my dish. I was so disappointed but I think it was just the "B" team. MARIO would've never let this happen. I will be back, but was so disappointed with the kitchen tonight.
Anniversary celebration was perfect.
It was a very nice well presented meal in quite comfy environment
As usual, an outstanding experience, which is why I go back time and time again. Always, very good food and excellent service. This time we set outside on the patio on Lake Avenue but the noise level was not excessive and it was a thoroughly European-style dining experience.
My husband's birthday!
Consistently awesome experience. One of the jewels of Pasadena.
This is my second time there since I thought I'd give it another chance and before I gave it a review. In this round, from three orders none was right; even though the waiter had suggested and verified what one of us should order! The service was slow and spotty and just not attentive. The food was fine but really nothing special or anything to go out of the way. I just can not recommend this restaurant at this point.
I didn't find the dishes very special. I think they are heavy.
People are kind and service was good.
Excellent food as usual at Celestino. They had a special salad appetizer that was sautéed porcini mushrooms that was great. My wife usually does not like mushrooms but she loved those. Quiet late on a Tuesday evening.
I made a reservation thru open table, and for the first time I attempted to redeem a dining reward. I followed the open table instructions, and received an electronic copy of the $10 reward with my reservation. When I attempted to redeem it tonight, after dinner, our waiter, Guiseppe, said that he didn't know what I was talking about, refused to even look at the reward certificate on my phone, proceeded to tell me that he worked there for 15 years and never heard of anything like this $10 discount I was trying to get. I asked him to send a manager over, and he returned 5 minutes later and told me the manager didn't need to talk to me because he looked at my reservation and there was no mention of a discount. This restaurant made me feel extremely uncomfortable and I was totally embarrassed for trying to redeem this "reward".
We celebrated our twins 25th birthday and it was great. The waiter, kind of an old guy knew everyone of the regulars in the place and was funny. He surprised my kids with a nice little desert.
we will be back.
We've been eating at Celestino for over 15 years. The food is always outstanding and authentic Italian. The service is always excellent. This is out favorite Pasadena restaurant.
What a great find! My boyfriend and I celebrated our 3 Year Anniversary and loved everything about this place. Friendly and professional staff, quick service, and absolutely delicious food. We recommend the mushroom soufflé (oh my goodness) and the pumpkin/sage pasta!
