Celestino's has marvelous food. The service seems very disorganized and the wait even with reservations can be long. Saturdays may be better very early around 4 pm or late after 9 pm.
Dining at Celestino is a hit and miss experience. I have loved it and I have been disappointed. This time I was disappointed. Although I had made reservations and requested a booth in the main room, we were shunted off to a satellite room with families with small children, hard wooden chairs, zero atmosphere and sporadic service. Management needs to upgrade these rooms! I understand that all seating requests cannot be accommodated, but the hostess was less than gracious and had an unwelcoming attitude when I mentioned my request, and again when we asked for the Dine LA menu. Observing who I took to be the owner making the rounds in the main dining room, one got the feeling that room was seated with regulars. I can understand that preferential treatment, but does make one feel somewhat like a second class guest. The very nice waiter was harried and appeared only sporadically. To be fair, he told us they were short staffed that evening, but that doesn't make the experience any better. We ordered off the dine LA menu and were disappointed with the flavor of the Osso Bucco and the Duck Raviloi. The mushroom shuffle was ok. The best parts of the meal were the Pear and Marscapone Salad, the fresh baked bread, the wine and the cannoli; not enough reason to dine there. Based on the quality of the food, and the dining experience, the value of the dine LA menu was only fair. My favorite meals at Celestino have been sitting in a booth in the main dining room and ordering off the main menu; I will stick to that in the future. I am not sure how I will acquire the coveted booth in the main dining room; perhaps go there early on a weekday evening!
I've been to Celestino many times before and while I don't think it ever qualified as the best Italian food I've had, it was terrible this last time. We had two pasta dishes that were almost inedible and the seabass did not actually seem like it was seabass. The waiter was rushed and rude and we waited about 15 minutes for him to even come to our table to order a drink despite asking a couple times for service. I won't go back unless there's an explanation as to why the food and the service was so bad.
Celestino cancelled the reservation an hour before we were set to arrive. I would warn others that this restaurant claims Open Table does not tell them about reservations in a timely manner and may not honor the reservations you make via Open Table. I emailed the restaurant about the issue and they never responded.
Service was slow and almost rude. Expensive dish, lobster with linguine, was not warm enough.
Very nice evening. Mushroom soup terrific as was the lasagna, and fettuccine with shrimp and peppercorn sauce. Nice wine pours, free parking and great service.
Best Italian restaurant for miles around. Very interesting menu bolstered by daily specials and in the right season items like truffles. They have enclosed dining areas for larger groups and a small bar. Only downside is that it gets crowded and there are 3 or 4 tables at the back of the restaurant that are near the kitchen and not very comfortable or pleasant places to sit. The wine list is extensive.
My friend and I were here for Dine LA. The menu was very appealing. I had the parmesan eggplant appetizer, mushroom risotto and panna cotta for dessert. We were seated promptly but service was somewhat inattentive that day. My food was well prepared and tasty, however. The restaurant has its own free parking, which is rare on this stretch of Lake and so nice. I would go there again.
A great place for a family gathering or a casual meal. Food is authentically Italian with a wide variety of choices. Service is efficient, friendly & caring. The owner Calogero is a warm, gracious presence and makes his guest feel like family.
As a regular, I was very disappointed with this visit. We sat outside, and it took forever to get any service throughout the night... Also the main courses came out too fast -- nearly at the same time as the appetizers.
Great service and amazing food!
Amidst all of the trendy restaurants popping up in newly-gentrified areas near Pasadena, it's easy to make the mistake of bypassing the tried and true. Our recent visit to Celestino served as a reminder that we have a fantastic nearby option for excellent Italian food and wine served in a comfortable setting by a helpful and attentive wait-staff.
I had a previous excellent experience here. This one started out bad. Unlike our first time, Celestino's charged us $5 to park after hours in Fidelity's unused parking lot. Then in a largely empty dining room the waitress would not honor our request for a private table with chairs for back support. Instead the took us to another largely empty room, dropped loose menu pages on the table and left. We waited a while and decided with these bad omens, it would be better to leave without ordering. I rated the food a three because a number was required. Later I read several Yelp reviews and decided we definitely made the right decision. Yelp opinions about food quality were mixed, but most reviews of service were negative. I will not go back. If our experience is typical, this place is in trouble.
I've been here once before and had a good experience.
Attended last Friday and was very disappointed with the service.
First waiter rushed thru menu. As my brother's girlfriend asked about an item the waiter was walking away. Never saw him again. I flagged two bus boys for a drink. The second waiter came got our order but didn't see him until the end of our meal.
Food is great but service needs a lot of work.
Will not be back. It's unfortunate because the place is nice and food is good.
This was our first time at Celestino, my experience was not the greatest I never knew who was my server a lot of nice servers came to my table but no-one introduce themselves as my waiter, after I order a bottle of Caymus some one name Mario very pleasant person showed up I thought he was my waiter but it seeing as he was the Captain or the wine person. When we ordered the second bottle I was told we had the last one they ran out, we order something else from their wine list and THEY WERE OUT TOO so my guest and us had to settled for whatever they had left since their stock was limited. We sat right in front of the kitchen window, which was nice where you get to see all the goodies coming out of the kitchen. ONE thing that didn't make our experience pleasant was all the Spanish cursing that kept on coming from the back of the kitchen, at one point I almost get up to ask them to keep it low then Mario showed up at that moment and I address him with that issue then he immediately turned around to the front kitchen to tell them to cool off the cursing when those poor guys had nothing to do with the incident. Anyway the food might of being ok but the vulgarities in Spanish among their staff are a turn off for me.

Always love Celestino's, but this time they really outdid themselves. I had the artichoke soup with baby octopus (wow!) and the red snapper on lentils and kale (so good) and everything was cooked perfectly, served perfectly, and then when I went to use my Open Table coupon, they politely explained that I was supposed to have printed a coupon or saved a picture of it to my phone. I couldn't find the email on my phone, so I paid the bill by credit card, but they told me if I found the coupon and brought it in they would refund me that amount. So I went home, found the email, printed the coupon, went back (I only live a mile from the restaurant) and all was well! I don't think most places would have been so agreeable and helpful. Kudos to Celestino!
Went for New Year's Eve dinner. We were from out of town and selected the restaurant based on availability and proximity to our hotel. Note, this was NYE, Rose Parade and Rose Bowl all in the same week. In a nutshell, service was poor, food quality meh, ambiance so so, bill overpriced for the service and the quality of service and food. Presentation lacked any zing or appealing quality. Disappointing all around.
On New Year eve, a big disappointment due to the service.
I've been here several times and the last 2-3 have been significantly unsatisfactory. In fact, the last two have found my significant other and I relegated to an undesirable table by the "revolving" back door, on the way to the restrooms, and away from the main dining room. We were nicely dressed and very polite to the hostess on both occasions. However, the second time being placed at this table was New Year's Eve and it was about 48 degrees outside. There was much foot traffic and many cold drafts, not to mention a line of people waiting to be seated from one end of the restaurant to the other. So asking to be moved would have been difficult, as I've found previously. Perhaps it wouldn't have been so unpleasant had our waiter actually cared about us or returned to inquire about the meal, but apparently that would've been asking far too much. He never checked if we wanted dessert and we finally had to flag him down to get the check before our feet were losing feeling from the cold. And I don't want any "Well, it was busy, New Year's Eve, it was crazy" sorts of excuses; this night is one reason WHY you're in this business. If you can't handle popularity, then get out. We finally did and won't be back. Ever.
As usual, food was superb, particularly the pasta. New Year's Eve, and the service was still fantastic.
Appetizer was mediocre, one pasta dish was good and the main course was terrible. It was veal shank which was said to be like a veal chop, but cooked differently. It turned out to be a nice piece of meat which had been boiled (or the equivalent) until most of the meat texture and every vestige of meat flavor had vanished. Then it had been doused in what appeared to be mushroom soup, but which also had no flavor, not even of the mushrooms. The charge for the entree was $50, an amount higher than any other on the menu.
Great service as always. Our favorite Italian restaurant. A gem. We love Drago. Excellent service by Carlos. Nice table for two at the patio entrance.
Great Italian food that is authentic.
Celestino is always consistently good. Lots of regulars who are greeted warmly. Wonderful specials so be sure to hear those before deciding. Great wine list and attentive service. Love the Dover Sole (Special) when they have it but of course their pasta & other items on the regular menu are all good choices, particularly the steaks, lamb, and pasta dishes. Nice salads too, good for sharing. You can’t go wrong here.
Loud Crowd for Christmas Eve
Celestion's remains one of my favorites in Pasadena. Sold school Italian done right. That said I must remember to follow my mantra of "Never dining out on a major holiday". The crowd was too large and the kitchen was chaotic. If so, the food was good. I would have preferred a slower pace.
Best Italian food in Pasadena. Excellent wine list. My favorite is the morrel pasta. Calogero is quite a personality.
We had an awful experience. My dinner companion spoke at length to the manager. Bad service , really bad.
We went there for the black ink risotto and beets risotto which I read on line on there menu they didn’t have either. The waiter seem like had too many tables and was not much help in suggesting anything. He was just there to take the order. We order chicken Milanese and when it came it was a small breast that was just breaded. We returned it cause it was cold also. Than I ask for the mushroom risotto and they brought that in 5 minutes. I never seen risotto done that fast. Off course it was not done. Had to send that back so they can cook it longer I ask the waiter if they have roasted potatoes he said yes. After a long time of waiting I asked about the potatoes and he said sorry we are out of potatoes. At the end I ordered double espresso americano it came totally water down. I was really frustrated with lack of everything. So for apology he brings the smallest flower less cake and seem like another half portion of a lemon cake for 4 of us. I will never go there again. They have a lot of work to do.
Fantastic spot for friends to gather- we laughed and celebrated! We felt welcome to be ourselves and the setting is perfect for a happy night! Service was exceptional!
Restaurant was lovely, quite busy. Our server was curt at best and our food was bland.
We have been coming Celestions for years. The food, service, and atmosphere is always exceptional. Once again, we appreciate the special treatment we have received over the years. Merry Christmas to all and thank you for the consistent excellent delectable food.
Loved our meal here! Red snapper w/lentils and kale and penne pasta bolognese. Would certainly dine here again when in Pasadena.. For those of you who are locals...give it a try!

Although I had a reservation, I had to wait 25 minutes but they were super busy so I dealt with it. Then I got sat outdoors right under a heat lamp that cooked the back of my neck. I asked the staff to lower it and they did but will turn it back on because other clients complained of cold. This was just a no win situation for me...
The food was good and the server was great as well. However, the discomfort during the whole dining experience was just too distracting and uncomfortable. I guess I will have to be more assertive next time and ask to be relocated... I was trying to be understanding
Will never go there again. Very noisy, smells like hell, service not good, food moderate to say the least.
Great Italian food I just love this restaurant. Especially the beef carpaccio
