Same owners as Brine across the street. Food and service ok, nothing out of the ordinary or special. Mushroom risotto was good, sirloin steak average, octopus was good, signature burger was ok. Drinks were on the small side as well as the wine pours. Manager was very friendly and came over to introduce himself. Talked about both of their locations and menus. Been around for 8 years ??? I guess they are doing something right.
Ceia is my favorite restaurant in Newburyport. Dishes are extremely creative with layers upon layers of flavors. Excellent charcuterie. Wonderful, diverse wine list. Delightful staff and manager. Great for date night, girls night out, or the whole family. The three floors ofter distinctly different atmospheres. I love the third floor the most!
This experience was the same as our first. Nothing short of wonderful. Great location in a great town. Atmosphere is very welcoming and warm as are the staff. Servers are very nice and knowledgeable about the food and so is the bartender and managers. The food itself is just so good. Presentation to flavor. Quality is from when you walk in to when you leave.
Our experience was perfect. Our bartender/server of the great bench/ booth seating aside the bar itself was so ideal. We never wanted for 1 minute a thing that was not at our table.
Time had not presented itself with the treasured friend that dinner was shared with in a year. Could not have been more of what we needed then to find ourselves at this spot!

This is a quality restaurant with creative, nicely presented dishes. The main menu is limited to a dozen or so items that cover a range of options from one burger (house special) to seafood (1 or 2 species), to red meats (two or three) plus a casserole or two. So, one has the sense that creative attention is being paid to the preparation of each dish. It's a bit pricey, but for me, a New Years eve occasion, well worth it. Highly recommended.
We had an excellent exeperience at Ceia Kitchen. The food was outstanding. My companions each had a different version of a burger- "Best ever", said both. I had the salmon which was amazing. The brussels sprouts appetizer we shared was out of this world. Wine list is excellent. Atmosphere is like a European bistro. Our server was phenomenal. Go there, you won't be disappointed.
I have been here several times, and have loved it every time, but I was very disappointed on my most recent visit. The two best entries (of only six) were not available, duck and halibut. The first two wines I ordered were not available. When the waitress made a suggestion, I went with it; it was overly sweet, but I said okay more out of politeness, but four out of six in my party would not drink it. When I ordered another wine, the waitress brought it out already opened and covered with a napkin. Still I didn't say anything; when she left, I unwrapped it to discover it was a different wine then I had ordered! Turns out they were out of that too. But the straw that broke my back was the portion of the mushroom risotto I received. It was in a six inch bowl and could not have been more than one half inch deep. Taken together I lost it and found the manager. When I explained this series of events, he was very apologetic, took the risotto off the bill and ordered us some very nice desserts. I will go back at least one more time, but if it's like that again, I will visit one of the many other Newburyport restaurants I have not made it to yet.
The atmosphere is classic New England; brick with exposed beams, cozy and dimly lit, but the lights over the table allow my failing eyes to read the menu and enjoy the beauty of the presentation. The food was creative, comforting, and delicious. Our favorites in no particular order: halibut with cooked and raw sun chokes and pears (great mix of flavors and textures), octopus (with hints of pork flavor from the flash frying, and so tender!), Lobster bisque (a bit spicy, not the ordinary New England variety), duck prosciutto, rillette (I think I remember duck again). The service was excellent; attentive but not overbearing. Our server was helpful and knowledgeable and she never rushed us or kept us waiting. The wine suggestions were spot on. Ceia is more than an hour from our home, but we would definitely make the trip again for special occasions.
This place really hit the spot. We greatly enjoyed the prosciutto and brussel sprouts appetizer and starters. We each had the mushroom risotto and salmon - both were excellent. The wine selection was diverse and we topped it all off with the Apple dessert! Great value for the quality of the food - will certainly return!
We met some old friends here for brunch. Service was quite good and the food was all very tasty. My only complaint, and it’s minor, one is that I felt that the dish I had was a little small, and I would have left hungry if I had not split a dessert with somebody else.
Ceia is a restaurant so awesome in Newburyport; My wife and I make it a point to go at least three to four times a week for that nice dinner that we can both relax, have great drinks, phenomenal food and mix and mingle with others;
Paul, the best bartender ever, is always super-friendly, courteous, engaging with customers, professional and amazing at making drinks.....especially the Espresso Martini for an after drink!

Overall, Ceia, is a jewel in the downtown Newburyport area. They are authentic, they keep up with the seasons with an ever changing beer, cocktail and food menu and finally their staff is knowledgeable, polite and engaging;
Ceia has become a favorite. We really love the booth by the bar, but as now it is darker earlier we could hardly read the menu even with the small table candles ... we would recommend an overhead light for the booth that could be dimmed ... otherwise, a perfect evening!
Best food in town, certainly. Creative chef. Menu can't quite keep up with the kitchen - salami turns into chorizo, and fettucine alla vongole is almost in a lobster nage, not that that's much to complain about in either case. I like the food - beautifully charred octopus, delicate pasta, super-creamy risotto - but but but - it's Boston money in Newburyport, and the place lacks genorosity. I don't mean the portions so much as a generally happy and welcoming ambience. Crappy flatware, no bread right away, bare tabletops, unsmiling waitress/hostess, a whiff of hauteur vs. the solicitous breeze we expect in this price range. Come for the food, and keep the rest of your expectations pretty low.
I visit every 2-3 months. This time Celia slipped. Food was spotty - duck perfectly prepared and delicious. Burger dry and fries limp. Someone in the kitchen had a heavy hand with the salt. And I am a salt lover.Service not particularly attentive..Plating was uninspired. The manager spent a lot of time on the floor checking on diners but would have been better keeping an eye on the kitchen. We will probably be back but not until after checking out some other places and monitoring the reviews. Too bad - they had a great thing going. Maybe just a bad night but our party of 6 was unimpressed.
Bar tender was great 3rd floor I got the Oyster Rockefelle but I recommend that they tell you the customer that the oysters are sitting a pile of salt !!! For I thought it was as a Parmesan cheese because it was soo dark in there...so I put a pile on the oyster ...and it was a lot Salt.... but other than that great place !!!
Service: Alana was so helpful in helping us decide especially with food intolerances. To her it was no big deal! So impressed she never asked us if we were ready to order- we decided. She wA so pleasant!

Interesting menu items and they came through with great taste. It was a Saturday and very busy, but ordering several small plates took some time and one was very late. If I was not so interested in seeing how it came out we might have left as we were ready to go. On a less busy night I am sure it would work better. Also a very loud and seemingly friendly group had a table nearby, which at times were annoying. But, that happens anywhere.
Very disappointed in this place. Went on busy Saturday of Labor Day but even so, service was amazingly slow (and no acknowledgement of the delays), portions were small, prices were on the high side, and quality was ok but not worth the cost. Needless to say we won't be going back anytime soon.
Amazing corn soup...silly, I know, but cooked simply and sublimely. The delicacy of this dairy free item is a clue to what their chef can do. We returned a second time on our short vacation to try it again and weren't disappointed. Ceia's Kitchen is much more than soup, they are renowed for their charcuterie, locally sourced produce and inventive cuisine. It is a delightful spot in a town with many good choices, this is a keeper.
I've been here a few times and have had a good experience almost every time. The burger is AMAZING, and I think I've ordered it every time -- one time it wasn't great, but the other 3-4 times it was. Everyone is friendly, and it's a lovely space -- three floors, each one looks slightly different. Great wine list, too!
Ambience: When we first walked in we were escorted to the 3rd level and told we had the best view in the house. The table was situated near the windows and the room was relatively quiet. Beautiful old brick, woodwork, chandeliers and a beautiful bar. We commented that they must use the room for private parties. Little did we know that within the next 30 minutes a boisterous birthday party was scheduled. The ambience went right downhill. For 2 couples trying to have an enjoyable evening, it was anything but.
The food. Two of our dinners [the salmon and cod] were good, one dinner was not as expected - maybe a description would have averted the choice of Shrimp ravioli. The ravioli filling was dense and not a traditional filling. The 4th diner asked to simplify the vegetable choices with the Tuna offering and was told it was not possible! He decided that he would just have an appetizer. The waitress argued with him that it would not be enough. Needless to say she spoke with the owner and now the desired simpler vegetable preparation was available.
When leaving we mentioned to the hostess that the noise level had been quite disruptive. She cheekily responded with "Well, I hope that you enjoyed your meal".
We will not be returning.
A very nice place to dine because you can actually have a conversation with members of your party without having to scream.... unlike most restaurants in Newburyport.
The food is also excellent and with the new management and Chef you do not leave hungry ....you are satisfied but not stuffed. They've done a good job with the portion control.... which used to be an issue.
Went for brunch. Our server Paul was excellent as usual and took great care of our table re drinks and service but food was a disappointment, especially the lobster roll - I had heard it was amazing but amount of lobster was quite small, fries were soggy and no greens. French toast was just average. For 4 of us food was brought out for 2 and then a 5 minute wait for the next 2 plates. Not a great experience.
Service and food were both excellent. Creative use of local tomatoes and cucumber as a first course, beautifully plated, enhanced with a creamy cheese dressing. I had a salmon entree and my partner enjoyed cod, both cooked perfectly. Wine selections and desserts also good.
Very disappointing meal. Lovely atmosphere. Expensive, highly uneven food. Excellent olives and almonds smal plate followed by tuna appetizer that had no taste and salad soaked in dressing with too much salt. Food at a good restaurant should be consistently high quality. Will not be returning. Plenty of other, better and less expensive choices in Newburyport.
Dinner was a bit of service and expectation mess. We had a party of five. Ordered drinks. The $12 sangria tasted like bland lemonade (but is was comped - stay tuned). While we were waiting for our drinks a server brought out a nice looking charcuterie plate and a bunch of small plates for us. We thought "cool". Then our waiter came by and said they didn't order that and she took it away. I'm glad we hadn't dug into it yet. Bread and our apps came - bread was great. Octopus was fantastic. Shishito peppers also, and too many even for the large group. Then we waited. and waited. Our waiter came by a few times to assure us the main courses we be right out. It was an hour later when the first 2 plates came. By the time the last plate came it was (timed by my watch) 8 minutes later. Rather than 2 or 3 servers brining the plates at once up from the other floor 1 waiter had too. Really unacceptable. The manager came by at that point and said sorry for the wait, how is everything so far, but we hadn't dug in yet since I had just gotten my plate. He volunteered that our first round (of unappealing) drinks were on him. The food was good, but the pasta plate was really an appetizer size and left that diner hungry. To be fair the tuna was great, and special (meat and pork belly) was also. We were then presented with dessert menus and the waiter whispered "they'll probably be comped". We ordered 3 plates. Then the manager came by with some ice cream - that's what got comped. It was good, but frankly we already ordered dessert! Overall - some misses on drinks and plating size and a huge miss on service.
