    We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. We were celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary, and there happened to be a wedding party in attendance while we were dining. The weather was fantastic for outdoor dining, and the views were spectacular. The food was delicious and presented beautifully. Our server was charming and attentive. We highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to another visit in the future.

    The oyster stew was lacking oysters. First time we had it, it was stuffed full of oysters. There were a few in the stew, and only 2 fried ones on top. Not very many for the price charged. Tasty, but disappointing.

    The food was exceptional but unfortunately the service was very slow. Our reservation was at 6:45 and we did not leave the restaurant until after 9:00. The one waiter in the room was working very hard but could not keep up. I do not know whether someone did not come into work or whether they are understaffed but one waiter was not enough, particularly during Restaurant Week.

    Mixed emotions. Our first time here. Reserved patio seating. Initially seated indoors at “our”reserved table, around the corner from the front door and definitely not the patio seating reserved. The noise in this compartmentalize area was entirely too much for the ambience we were looking for (crying baby, lots of blue hair chatter). So we decided to explore and see if there was actually patio seating. There was! Glad we pursued the table we had requested in our reservation. If you can ignore the GWP travel, the outside is quite quaint. They could do with a good mosquito spray dousing and declutter the grass for aesthetics for heaven sake but. The service was great - on top of us but nice people. The menu was extremely limited. Not really sure what the vibe goal is. Could do so much more with a less pretentious menu, updated decor (our table cloth had holes) and the mix of Japanese floral place pieces/plates (not settings - that would entail uniformity) with lemon wall pics? was a bit confusing to the eye. Has the overall feel of GW house outgrowing it’s space (many add ons). Not sure why owners don’t take the opportunity to make this place utterly fantastic. Investment, sure but you have a captive audience and the real estate location to make this place outstanding. Why not go for it?!?

    The food was amazing and enjoyed by all the only odd thing was the mushroom tart had very little mushrooms on it. Even lacking mushrooms it was still very delicious and I ate every bite. Our server was a joy and the staff was fantastic.

    We waited almost 30 minutes including one trip to speak to the hostess, for a server to appear and take our cocktail orders. After that her service was satisfactory. Food was excellent had the fried goat cheese for an appetizer and shrimp and scappops for one entree and the rockfish for the other. Both were excellent.

    Octopus was overcooked, not the first time we ordered but first fail which we brought to our servers attention We ordered drink and appetizers. Planned to order entrees later. Our server Ian assured us that he could stage things to ensure adequate time between courses. Unfortunately, our entrees arrived while we were still on the appetizer course. New menu equaled new prices, significant increase.

    The restaurant seemed very understaffed. The staff was clearly working hard but there were too few of them. The burrata was underwhelming in size and flavor, and decidedly overpriced for what was received. We are big Cedar Knoll fans but have definitely noticed “shrinkflation” setting in there. The music on Thursday nights is a draw but perhaps we will eat somewhere else and just stop by to enjoy the music and the views in the future…

    Party of 6 on a Sunday evening. Took 2 hours to receive entrees which were overcooked (rubbery fish, overdone beef, etc.). Service staff was rude, ambiance was subpar (unless you like dark and drabby with uneven floors). Bottom line- this restaurant is far from fine dining. Don't waste your time or money.

    The regular chef must’ve been off. The BBQ dish was overcooked and dry. The French fries were also overcooked and dark brown. The Schnitzel was not pan fried but deep fried and bland. They never asked as if everything was ok.

    Historic, bucolic setting overlooking the Potomac river. Both inside and outside dining. Interesting menu featuring local and seasonal foods and recipes with French flair. Indoors are small intimate rooms with large windows and a fireplace. We return often as menu changes with the seasons and we have never been disappointed. Also lots of free parking.

    This was a fairly disappointing meal - should have known when all of the dinner timeslots were still open for reservations on a Saturday night just a few days before. We had the venison and the strip steak, ordered both medium-rare by the waiters recommendation and both were cooked very inconsistently but mostly over. Parts of the strip steak were grey and all of it was hard to chew. And I don't mean the chew that meat tends to have, I mean tough. The middle pieces of the venison were the only parts even close to medium rare but they were definitely leaning heavily toward medium. The sear on the steak was not done very well either. And the steak was oddly served over over a LOT of brussel sprouts. Way more than belonged on the plate. And rather than roasted, they were part burned and part under-cooked. The best thing we ordered were the mussels which my wife said were good but the toasted bread that came with it was mostly charred in a large section of it. I had the cheese plate which was very lacking for the price charged. We overheard one of the staff apologize to another table saying that they were unexpectedly short-staffed, a message we never received ourselves, despite very few visits to our table with a great deal of time in between. Neither of us were exactly clearing our plates so when asked about desert, we decided to take a look. Then I realized why they don't list the deserts on their website - because they only have 4 and none of them even sounded remotely appetizing. The place seems to rely extensively on the fact that it's in a very old house rather than quality of food or service but for a meal that will average about $100/person when all is said and done, I'd definitely recommend going elsewhere as everything here basically fell short. Unless there's just something particularly appealing to you about eating sub-par food in a very old house, you can almost certainly find a better option.

    We really wanted to like it due to its great (nearby) location and great menu. This restaurant certainly has potential.... but read the reviews carefully to know that they aren't trying and don't want to. They know they have a problem with service and deliberately seat more people than they can handle. 15 minutes from seating to order. 40 minutes from seating to (cold) appetizers. All three servers walked by the table repeatedly, looked at menus folded waiting to order or glasses empty needing a refill, and kept walking on by. The food, when it finally arrived, was good but not worth the prices of several of the menu items. Good luck to you if you arrive after more than two or three tables are seated.

    My only advice is to check the menu out beforehand since there aren't extensive choices of entrees as some places around town have. Making reservations and going early is helpful if you would like to choose your table ( view of the River?) Overall a very nice experience for us.

    We love Cedar Knoll. Unfortunately we have had issues with service speed more than once and this time could not be ignored. We came at 11AM (opening) with our 2 kids. We were the second table seated. By 12:15PM we got frustrated and asked about our order and were told that the kitchen had not even started it. For a cheese plate that doesn’t require anything to be cooked!! The table before us was almost done with their meal and the 2 tables behind us had nothing as well. The front desk gave the excuse they were busy but that was just so far from true with only 4 seated tables. It looked like they were prepping for a couple of larger parties or events but neither had started and that should be covered in prep. If you cannot accommodate lunch hour and parties you should close reservations. We had to go to McDonalds with 2 very impatient young kids. I am so disappointed.

    UIt was my bday my daughter’s engagement and meeting future in laws for first time. It was a disaster! After taking order never ever saw waiter again. Different people brought us food. Mine was 25 minutes after others. Forgot my order. Nobody asked if we needed extra water or how’s the food and no bread basket at these prices? Outrageous. 3 hours for dinner with no dessert. Comped my dinner but damage was done. My daughter is having reception at Cedar Knoll. I cringe at the thought. They will be talking to wedding planner again. Please cut bushes outside so I won’t have to duck Under bushes 4 times. And please have an ADULT manager at restaurant. A horrible experience. Dennys has better service.

    This is a beautiful, fairly quiet place with a view of the Potomac River near Mount Vernon. Our family group of 6 had a wonderful time. The menu is very limited, but the items we selected were good. The service was okay, but coctails and, later, desserts were delivered gradually over about 10 minutes. There seemed to be some miscommunicatioin among the wait staff. Also, Cedar Knoll may be suffering from the labor shortage that is affecting the quality of service at many restaurants. The restaurant has a very nice outdoor patio overlooking the river.

    It was a set Keanu for Father’s Day and the best meal we’ve had in ages!!! The appetizers were spectacular followed by the best grilled salmon and rib roast!!! Even the desserts were perfect!!!
