Excellent food and wine. The rotating seasonal menu is always delicious and offers new items to try.
It was perfect - the food, the service, the view from our table (booth) - everything!
Can't wait to go back.
The ambiance was great with a very colonial, traditional feel. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was good and beautifully presented, but the menu was a bit limited and very rich and heavy, especially for the hottest time of year. Overall we had a lovely time and will be going back.
Cedar Knoll is among my favorite restaurants. The menu is creative and the food really good. The ambiance is in some ways unique. Highly recommended.
Prices on the menu published on the internet were generally lower 5 to 7 dollars, then in the restaurant. Not much, but it looked like the old trick and left the bad impression.
One of us ask for water without ice cubes and the rest all got lukewarm water, until we ask for ice.
There were minor glitches not worth mentioning, since the food was great!
Great experience with great food to celebrate my mother’s 76th birthday! Thank you!
Tourist trap with sub-par, over-priced food. Neat building. Over cooked duck and over cooked lobster. And for some reason put a basil leaf on chocolate mousse.
The perfect restaurant for perfect cocktails, service, quality of food, ambience and everything that makes for a perfect evening. It is a Five Star Restaurant along GW Parkway with ample free parking.
Fabulous all around!!!
Great service and great food
We will definitely be coming back here again - the food was AMAZING, the service was a 10, and it was a lovely place for a special night out to celebrate my husband's birthday.
Great colonial style restaurant with a view of the Potomac River. Loved it!
So glad that our second experience here surpassed our first. We had an outstanding evening. The food was delicious, the service was wonderful. The only snafu was that one drink out of many was forgotten, along with the only child’s meal that we ordered. Will definitely return. Everyone in our party of 6 loved it. Well done!
My husband and I really wanted to like this restaurant- their menu sounded delicious, they were located in a neat part of Mt. Vernon and they have views of the Potomac. However, our server was MIA for most of the meal, the flavors were so-so and the meal was priced for a 5 star experience, not a 2 star experience. Also, their soda is flat. Yuck.
This was ur second time at Cedar Knoll. Both times we have visited, the table was not ready within 15-20min of our reservation. Once seated, the service took a long time between orders and requests. The venue was not at capacity and there should have been time to take better care of the customer. If you have 2-3hrs to spare, you can't beat the view of the Potomac from the window seating. If you have other engagements within the next 3hrs, then look elsewhere or just get a drink from the bar and sit out back and enjoy the view.
Quaint historic restaurant that was an excellent restaurant! We arrived 30 minutes late due to a flight delay. They were gracious and found a way to work with us. The food was delicious. We dine out extremely frequently and this was the best service we have had in years! Oysters succulent and flavorful. Veal was delicately herb infused, tender and moist. The lobster and shrimp risotto perfectly seasoned and delicious. Pricing was middle of the road so great value. Highly recommend!
My family came back hoping it had improved since we'd not been in many years. Our impression was that the prices are way too high for the quality of food received. The presentation of food is nice looking but the taste does not follow. Shellfish was very tough and crabcakes tasted more of bread crumbs than actual crabmeat. Not worth $36-$39 an entree.
Beautiful view of the river. Very good service. Great Ambiance.
Brunch outside on the weekends is wonderful.
I understand it once was an inn as well, but now it is a just pleasant elegant restaurant overlooking the Potomac. We were visiting Mt. Vernon, and as the Mt. Vernon Inn was full, we picked this for lunch, less than two miles from Mr. Vernon. Clearly a great choice for lunch, and probably for dinner.
55 year anniversary celebration
Great food, great view. The only thing I noticed is they need to step up their landscaping game. Dead plants in all of the pots were not what I would expect from a great place like this that has so much potential. Otherwise everything was great. We will be back!
Totally last-minute reservation and an outdoor table, gorgeous night and view. Had outstanding food and really great wine, enjoyed the night very much. Will be back!
We enjoyed every minute and every bite. We had a table on the terrace with a pretty river view. The service was friendly. Our orders were well prepared and delicious. (soft shell crabs and rockfish)
Food and room are great. Noise from large central table, loud people drinking wine. Should put large group in adjacent room.
The location is spectacular. Breathtaking views of the Potomac. Service is adequate. The entree salads was nicely dressed. The cheesecake dessert isn’t cheesecake at all. The chocolate pate was rich and delicious. The noise level was intolerable. Private party should have been accommodated in the adjacent private dining room. We could not hear our cross-table conversation. Ruined an experience we had truly been looking forward to. :-(
I had not been to the restaurant under the new owners but my husband had frequented years ago. The house has a lot of history. I have to say the food was excellent, however, the service is lacking. The woman who sat us was quite attentive but we only saw our waitress limitedly and no one came to refill waters throughout the meal.
This is a very special place we discovered only recently. It you'd like to dine overlooking the Potomac, in historic surroundings, with excellent service and delicious fare, this is the place for you!
Three of us enjoyed dinner on Father's Day on the terrace of Cedar Knoll. Delicious food, friendly service and great weather made for a memorable evening.
One of the best places in the beltway. It’s a ways out, but totally worth it. Mount Vernon is also next door, so it’s a great spot for a weekend adventure.
Great food awesome cocktails
Brunch was delicious from biscuits to appetizers to mains. Because we had a reservation, we got a table with a beautiful view of the Potomac! Service was good but not great- we had to ask for the biscuits because the server didn’t bring them to us, even with a small child at our table who could have used the tide over while waiting for food for example.
Staff was wonderful and ambiance is really special.
What a wonderful experience. Everything about the night was special: phenomenal food, excellent service and a beautiful view of the Potomac. I cannot say enough great things about our visit. We will definitely be back!
We celebrated a 90th birthday at Cedar Knoll over the weekend. If I had known more about interior layout I probably would have been more specific about requesting a table by a window. We still enjoyed the brightness of the sunroom. The food was delicious, but our mood was tested by the extremely slow service.
I have driven pass this restaurant for ever and finally remembered to make a reservation. I appreciate the decor and was simply but elegant and the staff was attentive and friendly. The food was delicious! I had the lobster and scallops entree.
Terribly slow service. Excellent crab cake with forgettable accompaniment. Beautiful view and charming old fashioned setting unmatched by the menu and service
We were met by Lisa who could not have been nicer. She adjusted the number in our party from 6 to 8 without batting an eye and made sure we were well taken care of. Our waitress was terrific and very helpful. Both she and Lisa made our entire group feel very special and I will be sure to share our experience at Cedar Knoll with the many people we know in the area.
Great renovation and new menu, a must visit
Fantastic, historic restaurant located on the Potomac River. Innovative menus with large portions. The lobster and scallop risotto is especially delicious!
