Cavatina at Sunset Marquis
Award winning Chef/Restaurateur Michael Schlow, is proud to introduce Cavatina, a new, exciting restaurant serving lunch and dinner at the fabled Sunset Marquis in West Hollywood.
A long time fan and guest of Sunset Marquis, this marks Michael’s first L.A. restaurant and he’s teamed up with Executive Chef Chris Turano to present dishes at Cavatina that showcase their unique cooking styles and bold approach to food.
Cavatina boasts an impressive wine list and the restaurant's setting and service embodies Sunset Marquis’ casual and relaxed vibe.
Wonderful buffet for "Mothers Day", attentive staff and love the setting with a view of the garden and beautiful trees. Food beautifully displayed and quickly replenished . Everything
was delicious and we so enjoyed sitting on the patio---all in all a delightful experience!
My favorite place in LA as a Parisian. Love the food, the look, the ambiant... perfect ‘
I was a bit disappointed because the online menu and the actual menu was different. I initially went there for a particular dish but wasn't available at that time. On top of that, I ordered a dish that was $26 (on the menu) but the bill came out as $32. They adjusted the cost but... Overall, it was okay.
We so enjoy the setting of Cavatina ----it's beautiful and tranquil. The service is attentive but not intrusive. The menu is fairly limited but enough selections for a beautiful meal nicely presented.
It's like stepping into another world with the luxury of a delicious meal and being able to have a conversation with lunch or dinner partners .
Went for double birthday celebration (4 people total). In the past we've loved this place. This time was terribly disappointing. Maitre de was a sour-faced young woman who never even said hello...glumly walked me to the table. Didn't smile at anyone it seemed. Waiter was great...offered several wines to taste. Served the best Caesar salad ever. Recommended swordfish special. My friend (his b-day and mine) ordered it. Waiter comes back few minutes later that they don't have the swordfish. We were one of first people for their Saturday dinner so how do you not have the main special on menu? Waiter said they have same dish with a substitute fish cooked same way...my friend ordered it. What he got was Ahi Tuna, raw inside and not at all a substitute for the grilled swordfish. He ordered chicken instead. I ordered a $60 filet medium rare. What I got was medium well..and obvious to anyone looking at the plate from afar. Waiter looked surprised but not apologetic at all. By the time his chicken arrived and I got a new filet cooked properly (15 minutes minimum) our 2 other guests were already finished eating. No one ever came to apologize or even acknowledge they did anything wrong. They did give 2 complimentary birthday desserts but the overall dining experience was extremely disappointing.
Me and boo had a swell time.
This is place is beautiful. And not in a superficial LA pricey kind of way. You feel like you are in a botanical garden. The staff is really nice. We had lunch their on Sunday but as it was a business meal, I didn't want to order the brunch for all, so we got a lovely table adjacent to the patio, without any pressure, and ordered off the menu. There is a variety of food for meat eaters and vegans. The food was a little slow to come out but could be that most people were eating at the brunch. Our guest was new to LA from France and had a wonderful time, we are looking forward to coming back.
Beautiful ambiance, good food and yet, our service and was too slow. We had three different waiters during our dinner service. Maybe it was an off night and yes, it was expensive too.
Cavatina has a beautiful menu featuring fresh, simple foods. The cauliflower steak with truffle was absolutely amazing, and the service was impeccable. The setting is stunning. A perfect meal.
Everything was perfect. Great setting, serene atmosphere, lush garden, delicious food. It’s my favorite place to have lunch in Hollywood now
Wonderful as always!
This is our second visit to Cavatina, and we were not disappointed. I love that this restaurant is so good and the tables are spaced in such a way that you can have a conversation with your friends, date or spouse. Our daughter was visiting from D.C. so we wanted a place we could catch up and enjoy each other's company. The halibut, ribeye and grilled chicken were all good. The octopus was tender, although the portion was a bit small if you are going to split. Service is awesome. The kitchen was running slow for our main course, but the waiter bought us a round of drinks on him because of the inconvenience. At $20, $17 and $17 that was no small offer. There is no rush here. Take your time. We were there 2.5 hours and loved every minute. Of course you could speed that up if you wanted, but we requested some time between courses so we would not be rushed. For dessert the cheesecake is excellent and a reasonable portion. The strawberry cobbler and hot chocolate chip cookies with ice cream and milk is to die for. Give this a try. You won't be disappointed.
Hidden Gem - My friends asked me to pick a place between mid city and Studio City so I found this place. I knew nothing about it other than it got good reviews. All of us ended up being delighted with my choice. The area is beautiful. There is a koi pond and a little bridge and lots of pretty trees. The seating is indoor/outdoor, very pretty, feels like you've left LA. Service wasn't quick, but it wasn't as slow as other reviewers had complained about. There were only a couple of healthy vegetarian options, but the jumbo asparagus and cauliflower steak I had were delicious. Others at the table had the ribs and loved them. Cocktails and wine were good. Lattes were good. All around a great choice with lots of interesting LA people to watch, some of whom had lots of plastic surgery. And the prices are medium for LA dining.
This is a beautiful spot. A lunch on the patio is a great experience. The menu is not very good; not enough interesting lunch items.
We met friends at Cavatina and it was fantastic. It was a busy Saturday night and, still, service was quick but not rushed. Our server checked in on us regularly and kept our decanted wine flowing perfectly. The food was amazing and each of us loved the flavors and creativity of the plating. We selected a Rosenthal Block M Cabernet which is a very special local Malibu winery. After dinner we went into Bar 1200 which is on the Sunset Marquis property as well. Super hip and a great spot for a night cap. We will certainly be back to Cavatina very soon.
When we can't come up with a restaurant option for a particular occasion, Cavatina pleases everyone- therefore one of the few places we do repeat visits. Lovely surroundings, nestled in the discrete and secluded hip Sunset Marquis hotel. Easy valet parking , bonus photography gallery on right as one enters the hotel, then a glance at the pool area before finally arriving to the open air/indoor restaurant location with greenery and fountains as scenic view. Excellent service, great menu.
This place was listed as one of top restaurants to visit in Los Angeles, but I found it amazingly average at best. The hotel is quite dated, the bartender at the outdoor bar could hardly conceal her disdain for my guest since she had been listening to our conversation and apparently didn't care for his politics. Moreover, she can't make a cocktail. The food was ok, except for the octopus appetizer that was comprised of tentacles the size of my arm. No finesse or real care given to the food. The waiter was fine and got the order right. afterwards, we had a nightcap at the little bar near the entrance to the hotel and that was ok until one of the patrons got super belligerent. Fortunately, the manager was alert and took care of the issue promptly. The drinks are basic. the bartenders are not great or particularly friendly, but sufficient and it's a really cramped bar for them to work from, so I have to have some sympathy for them on that. In summary, there are too many great restaurants in L.A. to bother with this one.
Great place, Classic ‘New American’ cuisine. I love the fact it’s hidden and almost seems like you’ve been transported to some really cool tropical locale.
Great place to have a true L.A. experience. Food was very good and the service read great
We have been fans of Cavatina for some time and on this occasion were introducing new diners to the club. We are in the neighborhood and strolled over. Our guests could not believe the garden ambiance. Nor could they, lifetime residents of LA County, believe there was this grand hotel with this restaurant hiding in the middle of the city. This is what we usually discover and that is a mixed happenstance. For what we treasure about Sunset Marquis is its mystery.
Well we all were pleased with our reception and the care given to every moment of our experience. The meal was tasty with the guest who had Chicken Paillard exclaiming that it was sooo good. We tried the burgers for the first time and thought it was worth the challenge to get them into our mouths. And those fries! It’s rare today to find hot fires that taste like potatoes instead of flavored oil. Our drinks were well made and the Cesar Salad was actually served in separate plates for those of us who shared. We ended up sharing a Bananas Foster Hot Fudge Sundae. The four of us each had more than a taste and found it a great conclusion to our meal. Thank you Cavatina for your service and quality of your product. But please Sunset Marquis, don’t lose your mystery.
Amazing will definitely be back!
I love Cavatina! Delicious food, fine service, gorgeous setting! What more could you want
in a restaurant?
I've lived in the area for almost 10 years and I don't know how I did not know about this restaurant. What a find. You really feel like you have left the city to this secluded gem at the Sunset Marquis Hotel. The food was excellent and some of the best service I've had.
My only complaint would be the gratuity was added to my bill for a party of 4. I thought that was unusual. My real issue was I ordered a $100 bottle of wine (cheap by the others on the wine list) and I feel it is very inappropriate to add a gratuity when someone orders wine. Had the bottle been $200 or $300 I presume the gratuity would have been added. Had the service not been so excellent, I would have demanded the gratuity be removed. I will, however, mention it when I return.
Hidden gem, quiet setting amongst trees, plants, fish pond with bridge . Food is always amazing, service is excellent. Would definitely recommend.
This was my first "Cavatina" visit. (I had not been there since its previous incarnation as "The Restaurant at Sunset Marquis".) I took a friend for her birthday and was thoroughly delighted, as was she. It was a rainy night so the plastic curtains were out, detracting only a tiny bit from the elegance of the place but it was better than being cold and rained on. It's a very beautiful indoor/outdoor setting, and the food and service absolutely first rate!
Was a nice surprise/find from Open Table - had no idea it was there and it was a pleasant surprise! The place is really cute, a hidden gem! Great for a date night.
Main course was a bit of a wait so our waitress comped us a drink. While unnecessary was appreciated. Great dining experience.
This place is second to none! You feel secluded in paradise but you’re in the middle of city. The food is excellent and we had a wonderful evening.
Excellent quiet spot to have a business conversation and enjoy a meal In a completely relaxed Socal setting
We walked in(only part of our group) and they seated us right away, with no hesitation at all. The wait staff were very attentive to our every need, and never let our champagne glass get empty.
We are planning on going back because it was just amazing. Food was fantastic, and great place to sit and talk, and not have to scream.
Since discovering this Gorgeous, Romantic and most delicious spot about 2 years ago, we can't stop taking people there. Everyone can't wait to go back and take their friends - It's a JEWEL!
Great as always. Cavatina and the Marquis are a hidden gem that has become one of my favorites over the years. Ambiance, food and service have always been top notch in all the times I've been there. My guests are always blown away and swear to return on their own.
Cavatina is located inside the Sunset Marquis Hotel, a legendary spot in Hollywood. I have dined here for dinner multiple times and never been disappointed. The food is excellent and the service is always on point. Although it can be a bit pricey, it is a good value for the price. The ambiance is great and dining here always feels like a special occasion. I'll definitely come back again in the future. On this visit I had the braised short ribs and crispy brussel sprouts, and both were done exceptionally well. Would love to see them get more adventurous in the beer selection, but what they do offer is decent.
I’m usually a huge fan of this place. The food is pretty good and the ambience is unbeatable so I was a bit disappointed when I took my parents to lunch and the service was not exactly great. Almost 20 mins went by before a waiter even came by our table to take our drink order, and that was only after we flagged down the hostess (who was great, btw) and asked if we could get some service. I understand it was New Years Day and the restaurant was no doubt a bit short staffed, but there were maybe only 2-3 other tables and it wasn’t busy at all, so I don’t understand what the hold up was. I will definitely give Cavatina another try, but it probably won’t be for a while.
Our family went for dinner on xmas day. I chose this place because I remember their food being way better few years ago. I was bit disappointed at the slow service. Good appetizers and desserts but main dish wasn't up to my standard.
Nice outdoor setting was the best of the night!
Cavatina repeatedly delivers fantastic food and service!
Beautiful setting, one would never know this lovely garden terrace would be inside the somewhat ordinary street view of this hotel. Also inside the hotel are fabulous photos of rock stars and the Morrison Hotel Gallery has interesting exhibits (when it is open-unfortunately closed when we were there). The restaurant is very expensive. I looked at the breakfast and lunch menus online and based on that made a reservation for Sunday morning as that the only time we could come. The items shown on the website were pricey but ok. I didn't realize that Sunday morning is a fixed price Sunday brunch and I didn't see the price posted anywhere. The food was wonderful and the selection is great as was the service. But I can't eat enough food at one seating to justify $65 per person (plus tax no tip). I may not have gone had I known the cost in advance, but it was a great experience.
Wonderful ambiance, beautiful people, excellent service, delicious food and really great glassware for drinks. Fair prices too. How bout that!!!
Really unusual to find a great restaurant in a hotel, especially a small one. Stay and you don't have to leave (like Hotel California!)
