Permanently Closed - Cavatappo Grill
The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges
Sunday: 11:30am - 11:00pm
We are going to miss this place as they are closing in 3 days after a great 20 year run. We wish Luca a well deserved retirement but it is definitely a loss to the neighborhood.
great place but unfortunately they have to close due to huge rent hikes
last day is tomorrow
very sad great place
We had a wonderful meal and really loved the place. We were so sad to hear it is closing.
Excelllent food..reasonably priced for NYC
Food was pretty good wasn’t a fan of the lamb but my waitress worked with me to get a meal I loved. Great place !
Charming old world Italian. Authentic taste, smell, staff.
Will be back!
UNFORTUNATELY THE RESTAURANT IS CLOSING DUE TO AN UNACCEPTABLE RAISE IN THE RENT. THE JAZZ PERFORMANCES WERE WONDERFUL AND UPTOWN. WE WILL BE SORRY TO SEE LUCCA AND THE RESTAURANT LEAVE THE NEIGHBORHOOD.
Great food and loved music.
We were so happy to find a neighborhood place where you find very friendly people, good food and fantastic music ( thanks, Lucas). Service is good although it took long to get our food, that even after few reminders. Definitely a place we will visit many times.
nice restaurant, food was really good... however, the waitstaff seemed they all would rather be somewhere else... we might give it another chance...the food was that good.
the "owner" spent about 10 minutes speaking with a couple ..who he knew..who were seated... adjacent to our table.
which meant the waitstaff had to work around him..as a result..the waitstaff keep pushing into us..
hitting our shoulders/table .. the "owner" was oblivious.. how this made his employee's work harder...and his customers seated were made to take the brunt of the narrow walkway.
We love Cavarappo. Every item on the menu is done very well. Friendly staff.
Enjoyed a very nice lunch here. Good Italian with solid service in a pleasant room. Priced right too. I plan on returning for dinner and to hear some of their live music.
Luca's Corner- is the main attraction- always very good live Jazz.
Food is good, friendly service, easy to get to- I will go back again.
Food was okay. It didn’t blow me away. But it was a nice restaurant with a neighborhood feel. It probably is more fun when they play jazz music.
Everything was great. Food was good and came out quickly. Service was great.
We had a family get-together brunch - 8 adults- was very nice. We had lots of space, good service, not much noise and they let us relax and enjoy our meal - did not rush us. Everyone enjoyed their food - we ate omelette , shrimp salad, eggs Benedict and sandwiches - everything was good. I would go again.
Was the perfect street cafe for NYC Marathon watching 11/5/2017.
We live in the neighborhood and visit Cavatappo Grill regularly. The food never disappoints. A+
Neighborhood place with great food, especially if you like Italian, and live music at a reasonable charge. Luca is a warm host, and the restaurant has a comfortable vibe because of that. Worth a return trip, many return trips
Refined and quality Italian fare. As a bonus, jazz on Thursday evenings.
I joyed the evening with friends.
Cavatappo Grill is consistently delicious. We always have good service.
Pasta with meat ragu was suprisingly bland. Request to cook pasta al dente was ignored. Sea bass was on par with what you may get at diner. Quality of bread in bread basket was awful. Mussels were decent. Service was friendly.
Nice convenient place, the food isn't great but we keep going. Staff there are nice
One of our all time favorite restaurants in Manhattan!
I love their food. Great value on wine. However, the service was okay.. they forgot our orders and so unorganized.
It was the first time my husband and I ate there and we thought the food and service were excellent. However, the atmosphere was a little run-down and we almost didn't stay when we first walked in. But again, the food was really good and the service was superb! I would categorize this as a very good neighborhood gem. We plan to go back and listen to Jazz some time!
We brought our three kids (9-14) and enjoyed a delicious meal. It was tight quarters, yet I didn't feel like I could hear the conversations at the tables around us. Service was great.
Relaxing ambience with jazz band playing excellent sets. Food is good and. Reasonable wine selection. Ambience warm and cosy, good service
Giid food with custom prep
Nice waitress and fruendly people
Neighborhood gem. Food was delicious as always.
Music is outstanding and it matches the delicious food perfectly! One of the best kept secrets of UES!
Always a pleasure to dine here. I've been coming for ten years.
Had been there before for dinners. This time tried weekend brunch. The service and food was a disappointment in comparison to previous visits. Not sure I will go back.
Food quality has been spotty. Fried calamari were not up to snuff. Baby veal chops were delicious but lamb ragout pasta disappointing
Wow! Cavatappo is going downhill each and every time I dine there. I'm not quite sure where management finds their waiters/waitresses, but they are surely not trained at all ... dined there Sunday with friends, ordered the fried olives to start ... waiter (seemed stoned/drunk?) brings cold olives out ... then proceeds to explain that the olives are made before hand and are served that way. I know that is not true, b/c I order the olives every time I am there. Horrible service, totally overpriced ... not worth the visit anymore. Too bad. Will have to walk a little farther down First Avenue to find better, more reasonable restaurants ... and there are many.
This was a Sunday brunch, the day before Memorial Day. We had eaten there several times over the past year and had found it good value and pleasant. Yesterday was a huge disappointment - we were 3 and there were only 3 other people in the restaurant. We ordered from the brunch menu (too basic for words), the food took nearly 1/2 hour to reach us. The pancakes were thick, dry and lukewarm. The grilled vege platter for the 3 of us arrived dry, limp and room temp. There was no apology for the poor service. This is way too bad. We had enjoyed previous, tasty, well prepared meals there and had relied on it as a neighborhood 'reliable'.
I used to love this neighborhood restaurant and have been there many times over the years. But in my past 3 visits I noticed higher prices, and extreme reduction in portion size. Unacceptably small. A bad combo. When I asked the waiter if what I received was a normal size portion of fish, he made a face and took it away, and told me I was not going to have to now wait while the chef figured out what to do. 20 minutes later they delivered my platter with a normal size serving, and I was satisfied. But I was not treated nicely. The same thing happened with the lamb shank the last time I was there... extremely small compared to other visits.. the waiter agreed.. eventually brought me a normal size portion. They seem to be skimping on portions to see if they can get away with it, which is really disappointing. We went on jazz night (Monday) and I enjoyed the music. But I'm not sure if I will ever go back.
I was disappointed with this experience. The food was not as good as prior reviews indicate. The maitre d was rude and the restaurant itself was uncomfortable due to ever fluctuating temperatures - the door was left open creating a draft for our table and we had to repeatedly ask for it to be closed but at the same time the heating vent over our table (that in itself was kind of gross for eating) was blasting directly on our table. The better answer in mid-May would have been to have had cooler air circulating. But more disappointing was the service. Despite having a reservation we had to wait with no welcome or accomodating acknowledgement (and we had an elderly person in our party) and we waited over an hour for our entrees with no explanation. One of our party had a severe garlic allergy and was dismissed by the Maitre d as being in the wrong restaurant and/or that the dishes didn't have "that much garlic" - rather than what most restaurants do which is to offer a couple of garlic free alternatives. It was a special occasion and because it is a neighborhood place we were eager to give it a try but we won't go back. The pasta dishes were good but not good enough to make up for the disappointments that contributed to the overall negative experience. Also should be noted we were a party of 8 and while everyone tried to make the best of it especially since it was a special occasion, everyone in the group felt the same tension in the poor service.
This restaurant is a neighborhood favorite. I actually have a friend who insists on coming here when she is in town!
great neighbor spot with good food and friendly service
