Cava Restaurant & Bar Ratings and Reviews
Perhaps it was because we had dinner at Cava 3 days earlier, or because we were in a booth on our earlier visit, or a different chef, but it was slightly below our 5 star expectation. Still very good, but not stellar. Service wasn't as attentive, calamari and guacamole not as awesome. Still, I would return without hesitation.
Pleasant ambiance and very attentive service. Varied menu, food good and well presented but not experimental. Some portions are IMMENSE. Eg lamb shank for one was a good sized and tasty dinner before the residue was doggie bagged making TWO MORE lunches. Paella was average, with most fish too dry, and more rice than needed. Picky and very foodie diners like me might be a bit disappointed but, with more moderate expectations, I would definitely return.
Terrible. They brought some of the main dishes before the appetizers. The server did not seem to care. One of the main dishes was over salty to the point it was inedible. Again, the server did not seem to care. There was no manager as far as I can tell. No one apologized when we left. We will never go there again.
Cava is a a very popular restaurant in Montecito (Santa Barbara suburb). The food, mostly Mexican, is great and the prices are reasonable. They have a sister restaurant in Santa Barbara called Carlitos. It is fairly small so dinner reservation are highly recommended. Casual attire is fine but the folks in Montecito tend to dress up a bit.
Normally, I would review this restaurant more positively, but there were problems.
Service was extremely slow and, for some reason, there were no lights at all on the front patio - not even candles.
Dinner arrived and it was next to impossible to see what we were eating, so hunted and pecked in the dark for a while, then gave up and asked for our check.
I was able to make a reservation for 6 people for Sunday lunch just a few hours before. I appreciated that since it was a busy day in Santa Barbara with many events. When we arrived at Cava, they had set up a lovely table just inside at the front. We had two cyclists joining us who wanted to be able to keep an eye on their bicycles and the restaurant was very accommodating. They immediately found a table outside where the we could tuck the bikes in the back, out of the way of any other diners. There was no attitude from them about changing the table; they made it happen quickly and efficiently. The food was excellent. The portion sizes are large. I had a wonderful burrito asado and it was enough for at least two meals. I took the other half home and it was just as good the next day. Their chips and salsa are yummy - easy to fill up on those, too. Some of my friends had tostadas (the tortillas are made in house and are not fried) which they said were delicious; they were full of grilled vegetables. The server was also excellent - attentive, but not over-bearing. This restaurant is a favorite of a friend of mine and now it is a favorite of mine.
Cute little restaurant. Very friendly hostess who offered us a choice of tables. The restaurant was busy - we went on a Friday evening. We had a nice spot on the patio. We started with margaritas - the first round had little, if any, alcohol. The second round was better. We ordered halibut tacos and shrimp tacos. The pieces of halibut were absolutely huge and nicely cooked. The shrimp was also nicely grilled with a little kick of spice. They give you the papaya, beans, guacamole and cabbage on the side. The papaya salsa had no flavor unfortunately. They did serve a black bean corn salsa with chips which was really good.
Excellent custom cocktails...try one of their many Margarita's such as the Blood Orange..very refreshing..! Appetizers were excellent and the meals are most generous in size. Overall a most welcomed and pleasant evening. We will definitely return again..SOON..!
Great music, but the clientele was not generally appreciative of her talent. People at the adjacent tables were rather demanding and unhappy with either their drinks or menu offerings. We were happy with the food and our drinks. My husband particularly enjoyed his margarita.
I wish I could give Cava more stars because the food was really outstanding. But the service was terrible and unfortunately our waitress left us with such a negative feeling that it completely ruined the overall experience. Highly recommend for the food, but just hope you have better service than we did.
Second time here. Again, food was excellent but service was not as great as the first time. We ordered cocktails and, of course, the bomb guacamole with chips. Got the drinks quickly but our waiter disappeared and we were kept waiting on the guac and chips till we had to ask another waiter. Probably time for the first guy to go home. Or miscommunication between waiters. We'll definitely go back, just a little disappointing after such great service the first time.
This was our second time at the restaurant. First time was very nice. Food is good, but this time we felt very rushed through our meal. From entering to exiting was about 35 minutes including drinks, horderves and main course...don't know how they could cook it all that fast. Next time we won't order until we want the food delivered.
