Cava - Renaissance Esmeralda Resort & Spa Ratings and Reviews
Took my family for Christmas Day dinner buffet at first seating 4:00 pm. Most of the food was not set out yet. What was out did not have serving utensils. Food was cold. On a more positive note servers were very attentive. We will not come again. We will return to the Hyatt buffet instead
Service was attentive and fast
Food was dreadful
Burgers arrived minutes after ordering and clearly precooked and kept under a warmer
Seafood buffet looked unattractive and neglected
Bar unable to make a dry martini!
Don't eat here unless you arrive late and ate too tired to go out (our reason)
It's a beautiful setting but the best thing I can say about our experience at this restaurant was the convenience. We were staying at the resort and decided to have dinner here and our server was very nice and attentive but the food was extremely disappointing. We had eaten breakfast here a few days earlier and enjoyed breakfast but we would not be able to recommend for dinner.
My family and I have enjoyed the Christmas buffet for the past 4 years at CAVA. The food has always been very good and we've looked forward to the many delicious food choices offered. This year however, the food quality definitely went down. The cheeses were tasteless as was the crab and the turkey was not the same flavor as in years past. The smoked fish was rubbery and the desserts looked pretty, but we honestly didn't find any that were tasty. We can't comment on any other meals served at CAVA, but after this year, we are sad to say that we'll need to find another place to enjoy our Christmas meals in the future.
Tried the Friday seafood buffet at 7:30. Place was a ghost town. Some dishes good, some not so much. Attendant very friendly. There is a seafood pasta station, 3 hot seafood (fish) items, cold pasta, California rolls (very good), cheeses, vegetables, desserts. Nicely laid out. I was satisfied. This is the hotel's main restaurant with inside and outside seating.
The service was not great at all. The hosts seemed to be shocked when we told them there were 7 of us. They served coffee and our waiter left for a long time and I had to flag down other workers to get them to bring us water. There were plenty of workers around that didn't seem to be doing anything when there were barely any customers in the restaurant. I was disappointed because it is a pretty expensive restaurant. My friends and I are young adults and we did not receive the best service compared to families and older people who came in AFTER us. I hope we weren't treated differently because of our age.
My daughter and I were very pleased with the restaurant. We sat outdoors, pool view and had the prime rib buffet which included all side dishes and dessert. It was an unexpected surprise because we had been prepared to order ala carte which I really don't like.
Very disappointing experience. From the pictures it looked nice for fine dining but upon arriving it was obvious it's more like a breakfast spot. At 7:30pm, there was not a single person in the restaurant. Bright lights, menus which were laminated, no table cloths, off odor. We actually had a drink and then got up and left.
Went to Cava for Christmas buffet. $52/ person. For the Esmeralda, this restaurant is a disappointment. One expects something more elegant from them than a casual cafe atmosphere. Tablecloths, at least. The food was pretty good but overpriced for the setting.
The seafood buffet was underwhelming. The crab was fishy and half frozen. The salmon was not good either. The apple pie was frozen. The mousse and creme brûlée were ok. I am a resident and I brought an out of town guest and was frankly embarrassed. It was expensive too.
We took a friend here for her birthday and all three of us were very happy with our dining experience. Much to our surprise we were in time for their price-fixe early dinner which has to be the best deal in town. Our waiter was exceptional; very attentive, professional without being obtrusive. We'll be returning soon.
When I made the reservation for Cava, I had previewed the menu online. Fully expecting to order from the dinner menu, I was disappointed to find that we were required to choose from lunch selections
Admittedly our reservations were before 5 p.m., but we were attended a lecture series beginning at six and wanted to be timely. In all honesty, I chose Cava because they offered a discount for lecture attendees.
While the menu leaned heavily into burgers, I chose an ahi salad. I often order rare shi, and this salad had a distinctly fishy flavor that is uncommon for top grade ahi. However, the wine list was top notch.
While the server could have been more attentive, he wasn't bad.
I would rate the restaurant average -- which isn't uncommon for hotel restaurants.
The resort is nice but not what we were looking for. I am a Hilton Honkrs member and wanted to try the Marriott resorts for a change. Our typical stay in the area is at the Waldorf in La Quinta. My wife and I like to get away once in a while for a calm relaxing day or two to compress. This resort was more child friendly and not relaxing. It is a great place if you want to take your entire family but not what were were hoping for.
The food is not overly great either. We ate at Cava for dinner and again for breakfast. Other than the beautiful poolside deck(which is beautiful at night for a dinner) the food was not fantastic and the service was a little slow. The dinner Buffett was not worth the $39 price tag. The stay was fair
Wait staff are young, inexperienced and not too attentive to guests. I don't like servers hovering over me but staff should see when a guest's glass is empty. They are missing the opportunity to sell more cocktails. The mushroom soup was the best I ever had. However, I ordered the Cava burger medium and it was quite well done and on the dry side. Not a totally bad experience but I won't be going back there anytime soon. There are too many great restaurants in the desert.
