Cava Mezze - DC Ratings and Reviews
Cava is a great place for brunch on the weekends! All you can eat for $35 and mimosas for 25 cents, can't beat that. The food is unique and delicious, the service is good, and their drinks are great! Lots of tables enjoying themselves at this neighborhood hot spot.
Delicious small plates, especially the zucchini. I am a big eater and the "pick three" lunch menu was plenty of food for lunch, and at a good price also. I ate early so the dining room was quiet. It might be on the noisy side if the room is full. It's an easy walk from the Eastern Market metro. Good for large groups also.
Every course from this restaurant was a delight. From the shared appetizers to the dessert, the food was some of the best we had in DC. The staff was attentive and there was plenty of space for our group of 5. It was also easy to hear and the ambiance was perfect. Not a single complaint and hope to dine there every time I'm in DC.
Wonderful time as always at this DC institution. Great small plates - The saganaki is a specialty and a must. The brussels sprouts are delicious. Don’t sleep on the desserts - the donuts were great. It’s really hard to find a bad dish.
Go there for a moderately priced date night with fun ambience and great food!
Menu being changed from summer to fall, so out of a lot of items which we didn't hear about until after we ordered and wondered where our food was. 2 of the dishes had a hair in them, and our chicken was raw in the middle. The manager was very apologetic, comp'ed our meal, and gave us a gift card, but not sure we'd go back.
Arletta waited on our party of 3. She did a great job with plenty of suggestions. She knew the menu well and we enjoyed our cocktails and some delicious tapas. Watermelon salad, Brussels sprouts, tzatiki, chicken - all so good. We sat outside and enjoyed the people watching. We will be back!
Cava seemed to us to go downhill a few years ago, and we had not eaten there in quite a while. It was a pleasure to go back and rediscover the joys of fresh salad, roasted cauliflower, saganaki aflame, and octopus. Everything was delicious, and the service was unobtrusive and expert. We will put this restaurant back on our short list of places to dine for very good food, expert service, and some money left in the bank account when the evening is over.
This is definitely a 'young person' place. The brunch portions are very small - not worth the price in my opinion. Asked for a plain waffle (no chicken) and they literally brought out 1/4th of a waffle. I think this is a great place if you're primary goal is to drink and casually snack. But if your into brunch for the food, I would choose another place.
There was a police matter going on right outside the restaurant when we arrived with a loud guy getting agitated. Also, there was a dining customer sitting outside about to get into it with a man strolling b y with his dog, who was letting the dog get too close for comfort of the diners.
That being said - I'd recommend sitting inside for sure. But our waitress was super friendly and the manager came by as well. Overall the food was great and the taster hummus plate was awesome.
I'd recommend they put MORE Nutella on the Greek donuts and have more white wine selections.
First time to Cava Mezze and was pleasantly surprised. Was attending the USMC Silent Drill and Band performance at 7:30 so I booked a 5:30 dinner. Upon arrival we were quickly taken to our table and waited on immediately by a very friendly and knowledgeable waitress. We had salads and every kind of Tapa on the menu, dips, vegetables, seafood, meats, cheeses and even dessert. All were served piping hot and none disappointed. Loved the watermelon salad, octopus and crazy feta (made with jalapeno).
I was concerned that the logo looked too similar to the fast food Cava Mezze - then I found out (from our excellent waiter), that is was, in fact, the same operation. Boy was I surprised!
The food is, of course, much more varied than the fast food Cava, and delicious. You don't have to love Mediterranean cuisine to love this place.
Even though it's a tapas restaurant, the plates are of ample portions - 2 was enough for me (5'11, 190). I made the mistake of ordering 3 and took an entire plate home (lamb sliders).
I had the octopus, freekeh fava salad, and lamb sliders. The sliders were almost full size burger in my opinion. Coctails were refreshing - we all had the mojito (it had a special name, but I don't recall).
The A/C wasn't working well (or not at all) the night we dined, so it was a bit close. Heavy thunderstorms rolled through which cooled things down a bit. It wasn't uncomfortable; it just should have been more comfortable.
Prices are reasonable (again, the portions are good). I'm looking forward to going back. I just wish they'd have used a different name for the restaurants to separate them from the fast food brethren. Call me a snob....
