On NEW YEAR'S EVE, CAV will provide entertainment with a live band - The Lonnie Gasperini Ensemble - plus favors, masks and champagne at midnight. Walk-ins who do not wish to have dinner, may pay $20 at the door. CAV and its award winning bar will be open till 2am.

CAV offers the lovely Private Antiques Area and Lounge for Private Parties, Business Dinners, Wedding Rehearsal Dinners and more.

We went to CAV after the theater and had a great meal. The food is great, but what really stuck out was the wine prices are very reasonable. I think this place has the best ambiance in Providence and is clearly at the top for food.

We received a gift certificate for CAV so it was our first time there. The waiter, Curt, was very helpful, answered all of our questions and gave us ample time to review the menu and enjoy our meal.
Our meals were outstanding. We shared calamari for an appetizer . It was not fried and had a wonderful texture and taste. The duck dish and the chicken with pears were superb. Some of the best restaurant food we have had. We shared a berry tart for dessert that was delicious.

We celebrated my husband’s birthday and Valentines Day! The atmosphere and food was fantastic. My husband and I both said we need to go to Cav more often. Waiter was great too!

My mother and I dined here on a Saturday night. She ordered the New England clam chowder, which was good but the potatoes were too big. I enjoyed the walnut encrusted Brie as my appetizer. For dinner, she got the Duck confit, which was delicious, while I thought my filet was delicious. My creme brûlée was a bit too sugary. We thought the food was very good and the ambiance was interesting. In addition, the service was very good, fast, and attentive.

Absolutely amazing experience. The food was beyond tasty and mouth watering. I highly suggest the Pan Seared calamari and The Salmon was tender and buttery. By far the best tasting food and dining experience I’ve had!!!!

Always phenomenal! A true Gem! With the passing of its owner Sylvia,who is dearly missed,I wasn't sure how Cav will hold up. Now her Son has taken over and has kept the restaurant just how she left it,impeccable! The service is great,the food is outstanding, the ambiance is beautiful and Cav is my favorite place! Thank you for having us!

Came for Valentines day and they still had their full menu available. They were very flexible and the service was top notch. The place is very cool looking inside and I was satisfied with the whole experience, I would definitely go back.

Warning: Vegetarian bias follows:

Overall seemed to be a very well liked restaurant. Beautiful traditional Italian menu options great for omnivores but fairly limited for vegetarians.

Drinks: We had a martini which was really not very good at all, Scotsman or something, just gin and elderflower. We took 4 or 5 sips and just swallowed the expense but not the remainder of the beverage. No craft cocktail options on the menu, just a page of largely sweet martinis, a limited tap beer list and a number of (admittedly nice and decently chosen) wines. Bar tenders were kind but didn’t seem interested in their art, or maybe they were a little constrained. We tried a sangria to follow in an effort to try something reliable and easy to make decently, but it clearly contained fruit punch and we also didn’t drink much of that.

Food:
Ample very nice Italian traditional options with a northeast flair. A few newish efforts like a seared sushi grade tuna and some similar fish, but I think this place really rocks for the old school Italian. Nothing challenging for the 2018 palate. We chose two vegetarian dishes actually, the pasta Florentine which was delicious but contained almost no vegetable. The black truffle ravioli was excellent! Nice, bright lemon with the deep, heavy flavor of the truffle in well cooked ravioli and bitter broccoli rabe to counterbalance in an olive oil base. Spinach garnish was nice too. Highly recommended. Table bread was warm and moist with whipped butter but likely only heated on site. Tiramisu was an easy decision but fairly dry and smothered with ample Hershey’s syrup, just like you’d use to make chocolate milk when you grew up. Some might love that but we were bummed.

Overall, for $110 after tip for us it wasn’t the best option for vegetarians and we will likely not return. For meat eaters as well as sweet martini lovers it might be just the ticket!

A good friend was in Providence for business. I wanted a fun restaurant with excellent food that would immediately make him forget business for an hour. Cave was perfect! A great way to show off our restaurant scene.

The restaurant is beautiful and our service was good. There was a very long wait between appetizer and entrée. My duck was lukewarm and the leg part was seriously overcooked. My husband had the cod special which was served hot, but overcooked as well. I would go back and sit at the bar for a drink and to enjoy the atmosphere. The food was lackluster at best.

As always, CAV is a winner in our book. Service is a bit slow at times, but always very pleasant and thoughtful. Everything on the menu is delicious. Portions are reasonable, but not excessive, and the price is appropriate for the fare. We've been there dozens of times and will no doubt be back again soon.

The place gets an A+ for ambiance, as a comfy little jewel box you can sink into and watch sparkle. It's a great place for a special occasion, very inviting and warm, with excellent service and delicious cocktails. I'm sure the food is terrific as well, though the precise dishes I ordered weren't quite to my taste, while obviously well prepared. The entrees can get pricy. But again, it's certainly the right place for a special occasion, or when you just need to feel like you've done something really nice today.

Usually we enjoy CAV, but this was not a good visit for us. The waiter was extremely rude, and not at all helpful in answering our questions about the menu. We also had a long wait between visits from the waiter. Some of the food was very good, but a few dishes were dry. As I said, we have enjoyed dinner at CAV, but not this night, and unfortunately, it was a special occasion.

I ordered the mushroom risotto and I was surprised to see it plated as a mound of white rice on top of a mushroom saute - not what I was really hoping for. The service was less than perfect and I think we sometimes got overlooked because we were seated in a removed area that only had two tables.

Update: We had the opportunity to take new friends -- recent transplants from LA -- to dinner. It struck me that the most interesting restaurant we could take them to was CAV. I'm happy to report that CAV delivered as the perfect introduction to RI's food scene. We were given a nice 4-top in the back. Our server was charming, personable, informed, and attentive. Drinks were ordered, martinis were excellent. They extended restaurant week so we had the regular menu and the RW menu to choose from. Our friends LOVED the crab cake app and the calamari, though served cooler than they would have liked, was a hit. From the RW menu, my mushroom dumplings were very good as was my mini spinach salad with a light dressing, pistachios, and cheese -- blue or gongonzola, I can't remember. Entrees included: gnocchi, parmesan encrusted chicken breast, scallops & shrimp with lobster butter. No complaints and all plates were clean. For dessert we got the chocolate chip cookie, merlot/blackberry sorbet, and two chocolate things one with a chocolate straw which reportedly were decadent. Our friends thought the food was excellent and the atmosphere eclectic, and I was so happy that we had such a lovely evening together. CAV really is a very special place.
