Everything is always excellent. The service, the food, the ambiance etc. Favorite Providence restaurant.
We wondered whether CAV would continue to meet the high standards of its late owner. But there was nothing to worry about. Everything was as good as ever. For appetizers, the cheese croquettes were good but not excellent. However, the dumplings (I think that's what they were called) where an absolute hit. My friend reported the duck entree to be very good, and my swordfish special entree could not have been prepared or presented better. CAV offers gracious service, excellent live music, and lovely and unique surroundings. My only complaint might be that it was difficult to hear conversation over the live music and background noise. Overall, CAV definitely remains one of the top choices for dining in Providence.
The food at CAV never disappoints. The scallops were delicious and my dinner partner loved the swordfish. It was a very busy Wednesday night with the jazz trio playing, but the service was excellent. We sat two tables from the band and although they were excellent, they were very loud. So loud we had to virtually yell to hear each other. If you go on a Wednesday night, sit on the side of the restaurant opposite the band.
Always a good stop!! Best french toast! Reception is a bit attitudish but once you sit servers are great. Make a reservation...
We came here after a wake down the street to catch up and have a nice evening, and the service and decor was amazing. Our server was amazing- so attentive and great with recommendations. The food was unreal- We got the goat cheese croquettes to start which were much smaller than anticipated (think cheese ball size) and there were only four or five. For the main meal I got the Parmesan crusted chicken and my friend got the fresh cut pasta, and both were fantastic. The sauce that my chicken was in was maybe the most delicious thing I’ve ever had and the chicken was so moist and tender. I wish I was closer to this place- I would for sure be back for fancy occasions as this is a little pricier than I am used to. It may be worth the drive in the future for a repeat trip. Thank you for an amazing meal!
Charming interesting atmosphere, perfect for special occasion. Good portions, not too small or overwhelming. We will be back!
The goat cheese croquettes were so small and over priced! High prices for smaller dishes. The pizza was good and the scallops and shrimp dinner was good. The mushroom risotto was not good and got a stomach from it. Really like the decor and ambience but not sure we’ll go back.
Lovely date night! Beautiful ambiance! Food was beyond delicious! We ordered the brussel sprouts, lobster bisque, scallops, filet mignon, mashed potatoes and chocolate torte! Brussel sprouts and filet stole the show! Only two very minor complaints: we were seated way too close to other couples and there were plenty of open tables that night, and the sides served with the scallops were bland/basic compared to the last time we dined there. Still had a great evening!
Pre theater early dinner. We did not want to have a heavy meal so we shared a bruschetta.
I had special salad w/chicken delicious dressing!
My husband had special salad with Tuna that he raved about
We will be back for a “real” dinner!Such a unique and cozy spot , romantic too!
Very romantic venue and I will give them another chance to make up for the cold soup and improper pacing of my meal. The food was at a price point that should require more care in preparation but the ambiance and service were top notch.
I’ve been here several times. Each time is an exceptional dining experience. My friend and I had the filet and scallops. Amazing!
Unreal experience on Valentine’s Day
Delicious meal, great service and cool decor
We love CAV and have been coming for years. Brought visitors from Virginia Saturday night and they loved it too.
Always my favorite Providence restaurant.
Romantic, lovely unique setting. A place where you can feel comfortable being “dressed up” for a date
We love Cav. This was my first luncheon there. The menu choices were great. My guest loved her salad and I had the Parmesan encrusted chicken. To die for!!
I can’t wait to go back and order again.
Funky decorations, professional and courteous staff.
A RI gem!
Such yummy brunch in intricate surroundings! The omelette with balsamic caramelized onions and goat cheese was phenomenal and is a must try. My husband ordered the feta, mushroom, and spinach omelette and loved it as well. We also ordered the CAV brioche French toast and although it was pretty good too, I found it a bit too sweet and heavy for me so would likely not order again! But totally recommend this incredible brunch spot in providence for all brunch fans. Btw I’m from NYC so my brunch standards are pretty high but I loved CAV a lot!
The lobster and peas over homemade pappardelle was amazing. Unusual, and delicious! Service was excellent and the ambiance of the restaurant is charming. We had a lovely table that was quiet and on an elevated side area, so very private. A wonderful evening! Thank you.
Love this place! A real gem. Very friendly service. We’ll be back!
All round excellent
Every time we go we have a great meal I highly recommend it it’s eclectic an a fun place. Try it out if you have not gone.
We went there with a family member visiting from out of town. Food was great. They were very accommodating when we came with one more quest than expected.
We will be back.
We celebrate my mother's birthday over Saturday brunch, and this was the perfect spot. Food was delicious, and our server was attentive without hovering. Highly recommend!
Good time getting to enjoy Cav for restaurant week.
This place was great. Cool mix of French decor and African elements. Funky but sophisticated
As per usual the food and service was amazing
CAV is a hidden gem. We took another couple with us for a nice night out, and they had no idea that a restaurant of this quality existed in its location. Atmosphere is very unique, great service and a dinner that impressed everyone in our group. Well worth the trip!
A romantic dinner for two was marred by poor service, incorrect drinks and an incredibly loud atmosphere.
Excellent food. Great ambiance
It was our first time at CAV and we will definitely bring going back. Food was delicious and loved the ambience!
Because of its unique ambience and because the quality of the food and service are excellent CAV is our favorite restaurant When we entertain out of town guests. We feared that after the death of the owner the high standards would not be kept up but our fears were groundless. CAV has never let us down.
Great food and environment
What a great restaurant! My wife and I were in the area the other night visiting someone in the hospital and we decide to pop in to get a meal and it was wonderful. The ambiance, service and, of course, the food are all fantastic. You won’t be disappointed.
The salad was not good. Not the usual, but the waiter was wonderful and he did Comp us on the salad. The drinks were delicious, the ambience was great and I would definitely go back. It was just a bad day with the food
Enjoyed a nice Sunday brunch
Anniversary dinner. Outstanding food and service with a romantic atmosphere.
As always, CAV provided our group of friends with the perfect spot for a pre-theater lunch. The food is delicious, the wait staff is super attentive and the decor is magical. In a town that has so many wonderful restaurants to visit, it says a lot that CAV is always at the top of our list when we select a place to gather.
I didn’t expect anything lavish, but I put in the reservation this was for an anniversary and that we would like to be seated at the bar. We arrived maybe 10 minutes before reservation and were told our table was being set. I mentioned requesting the bar and was told we could sit there and get a drink until table was ready. Fine. Sat at bar 10 minutes and were never able to give a drink order. Once we got to table, waiter was fine but rushed and real quick with us. Food was pretty good overall but very loud and rushed.
