CAV was amazing. We will be going back for dinner and drinks!
Eclectic atmosphere, great service, and a very stable menu with delicious fare makes CAVs a great choice for anything from a fun night out with friends to a special date night and even as a professional business meeting location. Over the years we have dined our way through their entire menu from brunch to lunch to dinner and have never been disappointed. We will continue to return with friends and business associates.
Thoroughly enjoyed our family get-together. We were able to visit and enjoy a delicious brunch. One the the few wait staff who understood that you don't clear dishes until everyone is finished. We were not hurried. It made for a special day.
Beautiful restaurant, so whimsical. It transports you into another world, as if you are in the 1920s. Food was very good, what I got was ok, but the rest of my parties dishes were outstanding. Service was great too. Highly recommend for brunch!
We went to Cav before attending a play at PPAC. The food was awesome. I had the rack of lamb and I almost ordered seconds. Our service was spectacular. The pace is cozy, and tucked away in a corner of a building, but worth finding. Parking is convenient and right across the street. We even came back after the play for a nightcap.
When we first walked in we were hit with a musty mildew smell that permeated the entryway and followed us to our table. The light fixtures and decorations hanging from the ceiling were dulled by a thick layer of dust as were the glass shelving next to our table. The service was slow, our waiter disappeard for long periods of time, the restaurant was almost empty at that point. The food was mediocre - one of my sides was not hot, but luke warm.
Our server charged us $6,000 over what the cost of our meal was, when he returned after correcting it, it was still incorrect. Poor attention to detail.
For the smell alone we will not go back.
Super time again. Terrific and creative food. Capable and accomadating waiter. Tom was knowledgable and super. Keep up on he good work! Thanks
Wonderful Sophia Salad, Scallops and Shrimp, and Cod and Bean Special. Blackberry sorbet came with a surprising and welcome drizzle of chocolate sauce. Warm, pleasing decor. Good service, friendly server. We hadn't been here in quite awhile but will return much sooner next time.
Eclectic and fun restaurant. Food was very good and the service was great!
Wonderful night. Great food and the waiter was wonderful. My wife and I were looking for a fun, delicious evening for our date night. Goat cheese balls and the wild mushroom crustini were outstanding. Looking forward to going back soon!
We come here quite regularly. The atmosphere is great and the service is generally, (but not always), excellent which is hard to find. The filet is Amazing, (better than the steakhouses), as it is paired perfectly with truly great sides. The whole meal just meshes perfectly. The appetizers are top notch. Some of the apps are on the small side but they are high quality. My wife loves the coconut shrimp here. The plating and care that goes into the food is excellent. You can get away with nice jeans or be in a suit and fit right in either way. It's just enough different to be fun without being weird.
Very energetic atmosphere. This was a vacation trip and searched for a good place and was not disappointed. Very inventive specials and cocktails. Great wine list.
The food was excellent, service was great. CAV is inside of an old mill building. The inside is absolutely beautiful. This is a first class restaurant!!
My family dined here after a matinee at the Providence Performing Arts Center. It really is an easy walk from the PPAC although there is parking at the restaurant. We LOVED the ambience, very warm and inviting, with lots of antiques (for sale) on display. The room is dark woods with some reds (fabrics), and beautiful antique chandeliers on display. That said, the decor is not at all "too formal" or off putting. Many diners were dressed very casually and others quite dressed.
The service was excellent, very attentive, and the cocktails were great. The menu was varied but I think my family agrees that it tended toward the "rich" side; the mushroom risotto in particular was very, very "heavy," the lobster bisque too rich and overpowered by the heavy use of vanilla (which I was not expecting in place of a paprika/cayenne flavor). The duck breast was very good, but not exceptional. We would definitely return but would take care to order items off the menu that would be less rich.
Very limited menu for 12:30 in the afternoon on a Saturday. Only brunch menu is served. Additionally, musty smell throughout.
Food was amazing. 4 of us dined and all he different dishes and all of them were very good to excellent. Server could have been more attentive. Don't think he is the norm because other servers seemed to do a better job
Fantastic food and excellent service.
Food was very good. Interesting items on the menu. Very accommodating to the vegetarian in our group. Great wine selection. Very attentive service.
Great for a special occasion! Small and intimate.
I would definitely go back.
Food is delicious and fresh. Sophia salad was excellent. Cavatelli pasta with shrimp is very good and lobster appetizer was truly outstanding. Desserts (blackberry merlot sorbet, coconut sorbet, and creme brulee) were all fabulous.
Eclectic ambiance is the word. Would have preferred white table cloths and a typographically designed menu, which then would have been on par with the totally outstanding food. Also, I think the classification was French, but in my opinion, Italian would be more appropriate.
Easy parking. Nice ambiance. Interesting menu. Food nicely presented. Taste and quality was very good. Great place for dinner with friends.
Our family of five went out to celebrate our oldest daughter's becoming a college freshman at Brown. Although the restaurant was located in a relatively empty location, the unusal design, eclectic collection of antiques and special ambience made for an evening to remember. The waitstaff were respectful, friendly and very helpful. All of our drinks, appetizers and entrees were absolutely delicious. We will return to Cav whenever we visit Providence.
CAV is always a good experience. Depending where you are seated, it could also be a nice restaurant for "quiet conversation." One of our favorite go to places.
CAV had it all: great food .service, and atmosphere. We can't wait to go back.
I had been to CAV previously and loved its unique antique-filled decor and very good food. For that reason, I suggested to an old friend that we ought to meet there for an after-work "catch-up" dinner. I was persuaded in part by the advertised "prix-fixe dinner" for $18.95.
When we arrived at the restaurant, it was quite empty. Our server wasn't exactly surly, but she seemed greatly inconvenienced when we asked about the prix fixe menu. She walked off and then returned with that menu which now listed the price as $29.95. We ultimately ordered one prix fixe meal and another meal off the menu. The food seemed to take an eternity to arrive, but it was generally worth waiting for. Unfortunately, the service in the meantime was non-existent.
Our server seemed less interested in serving us than in moving us along. I was particularly annoyed when the server attempted to clear my dinner plate while I was still eating from it. (Again, this was in a practically empty restaurant.)
I would have loved to rave about the decor and food at this restaurant, but I really can't recommend it. A major part of any "restaurant experience" is the service. Indeed, the point of going out for us IS the service. My friend and I are both good cooks who are accustomed to entertaining others at our homes, and we could have recreated the meal without much effort. At the end of the evening we agreed that we could have had a comparable meal and better experience doing it ourselves...
I love one of a kind restaurants and there is only one CAV Restaurant with it's eclectic and interesting interior design put together from artistic objects from around the world. The CAV is a restaurant, art gallery and watering hole all wrapped in one, with easy parking, consistently good service and excellent food.
Enjoyed our dinner at CAV. Very unique ambience with lovely antiques. Decided to just have appetizers and they were all delicious. Our server was wonderful. Would highly recommend!
Went for lunch, was hoping for good bisque and crabcake. The bisque had no lobster, just cream and the crabcake was dry. sadly...i so wanted to love this place. also dusty...just because you are also an antique store doesn't mean you can't clean. dust please.
Food was amazing. Server was great but food was very slow coming out even tough it wasn't very busy.
My husband and I went to CAV for our anniversary. The service and found was fantastic. Our waiter even brought us complementary champagne when he brought our bill since he knew of the special occasion. Nice evening all around.
Jason my waiter was great. Very attentive and friendly. The salad was great - Sophia. The meal was good- filet mignon. I would return and bring colleagues for dinner.
This is in a weird location, near parking garages and warehouses. We chose CAV because it has good reviews and is near 95. The area at night feels desolate. The restaurant interior looks funky cute cozy but the a/c made it uncomfortably cold.
The Sophia salad was delicious, but because we split it we had only bread & butter plates, too small. We each ordered pistachio crusted crab cakes which are an appetizer but so huge they were more than enough. The crab cakes texture was crunchy with mostly while crab inside. They were nicely seasoned, but I was disappointed because the crab was a bit fishy and they were not hot.
Excellent food and service as usual
Cav has been good to my girlfriend and I in the past. I ordered the white pizza and was very disappointed.
I love the atmosphere at the CAV, and the food and drink are consistently outstanding. I like to suggest this restaurant, not only to local friends/family, but I especially believe it is a fabulous location for out-of-town visitors. I find it unique and a "conversation piece." It is a great choice before hitting PPAC or a stop-in for a cocktail at the bar.
A hidden gem in Providence! Great place for a romantic getaway. Food is always consistent and the service spot on!
Great place, great decor, excellent service, creative and delicious and healthy food. A bit noisy.
This was my second visit--again, during Providence Restaurant Week. I opted out of the Restaurant Pre-Fixe this time because there were other things that looked so delicious and I don't have a big sweet tooth. The caprese salad was perfect--just the way I like it. I had the duck entree which was to die for--that sweet potato purée is everything. And my boyfriend (who never eats steak outside of the house) had an incredible piece of filet mignon. Service was great, it was a Friday night and the noise level was fine. I can't wait to go back, maybe for brunch.
Loved the ambience! Had a delicious dinner and will definitely go back.
After hearing about this restaurant we finally decided to give it a try. The service and food were great as well as the decor. Everything was perfect until we received our bill which had an additional $2.00 per lemon twist added to our already expensive $12.50 martini's. We would consider going again but of course will not order that drink again and would be cautious of additional expenses.
