On NEW YEAR'S EVE, CAV will provide entertainment with a live band - The Lonnie Gasperini Ensemble - plus favors, masks and champagne at midnight. Walk-ins who do not wish to have dinner, may pay $20 at the door. CAV and its award winning bar will be open till 2am.

The private room, seats up to 65 guests. On Selected Days, the Whole of CAV may be available for Private Dining for Larger Private Parties (up to 125 guests for dinner, or more for cocktail parties.

The last time I had the pleasure to dine here was back in ... maybe 1999 “ish”! I had moved out of the area for many years! I saw it on OpenTable and booked a meal for my wife and I and had the best meal in a very long time! The food was great! I had the Duck and my wife had the Filet Mignon. Both cooked to perfection! We both ordered drinks and I even tried (and loved) their French Martini! We finished the meal with a Creme Brûlée dessert! Highly recommend that one, by the way! And the service... we enjoyed the services of a very warm and inviting waiter who was attentive but not intrusive! The whole time went by too fast, although we enjoyed our meal at our own pace!! Can’t wait to go back! This is just one of those awesome places!! Loved it!! I hope your visit is equally as enjoyable!!
I brought some business clients there for lunch and they were all very impressed. Two of my four guests are from RI but have never tried CAV. They loved it and will be back for sure. CAV has a great menu with classic favorites and other dishes you just don't see anywhere else. It remains one of my favorite dinner spots and now will be a regular for lunches as well.
Terrific as always. Really a fun and cool room and food stays very good after all these years. You are eating in the middle of an art gallery with a cool funky bar, great decor, tasty food, nice beverages, friendly service. what's wrong with that? The founder's spirit lives on.
Our family dines sat Cav every time we are in Providence. We live in NYC and appreciate excellent food. We have never been disappointed at Cav. The appetizers, entrees and desserts are all exceptional. We love the decor and the waitstaff are friendly and helpful.
Had a family meal on a Saturday night. Ambiance is creative and enjoyable with gorgeous lighting. We waited about 40 minutes after sitting down to receive bread but the pace of the meal sped up after that and was fine. We had calamari for an app and it was delicious. My brother and father got the lamb shank and raved about it but weren't crazy about the veggie pate on the plate. I had the scallops and they were done perfectly, my shrimp were a bit dry though. The combinations of vegetables and sauce were tasty. We all enjoyed our meals and liked the atmosphere.
A friend told us that we had to go to CAV for Sunday brunch following a great evening at Water Fire. It's a spectacular site with amazing antiques, interesting textiles, weird chandeliers, and a fabulous collection of African sculpture and masks. The service was friendly and professional and the food excellent. When back in Providence, we'll certainly head to CAV to eat.
This place was AMAZING. My boyfriend and I were in Rhode Island for the weekend and enjoyed a lovely romantic dinner here. The food was amazing - highly recommend their lobster and poules aux poires (it's award winning for a reason). Their menu was so creative and extensive we had a hard time deciding. I'd love to go back. And the staff was incredibly polite and accommodating. Honestly some of the best waiters I've dealt with.
Nice restaurant. Very fun& funky vibe. Our drinks were great and my husband's meal (seared tuna) was great. Mine (beef tips & ravioli) was so so. The restaurant got busy and our waiter was in the weeds. We were forgotten about for about 45 minutes. We seriously think he forgot we were still in the restaurant. We decided not to order dessert.
One of my girl friends and I dined at Cav on Friday night to book our upcoming girls weekend get away. It was our first time and we absolutely loved the experience! The food and drinks were fantastic. Curt our server was so hospitable and had many great recommendations. He even gave us a free dessert since it was our first time. We will be back!
Have not been to CAV in about 15-20 years. Seems like it attracts an older crowd (like us). There was nobody seated at the bar which I found unusual for a Saturday night.
Menu is limited and not very interesting. Food was good but nothing special. Our waiter could use a personality perk-up
The cocktails were amazing. My favorite was the orange blossom. The food and ambience was even better. Although our waiter started getting less attentive at the end of our meal (forgot our coffee & doggie bags for our meals), the experience was worth it. Even the coffee was amazing. This place was better than I remembered. We spent time after our meal on the patio.
The night we went there was a wedding also going on and that required us to check in at the normal area, but then to be lead outside around the building to a side entrance and seated in a pretty small area of the entire restaurant. The way this area was separated from the main dining and bar area left us feeling like we were in a cramped back room. The service and food were excellent as always. I just wished that when making the reservation we would have been told that 80% of the restaurant was booked with a wedding. The dj's music was pretty loud and it made conversation difficult.
We made a reservation well in advance of the date and were not informed that the main dining room was closed due to a wedding. We would have preferred the opportunity to reschedule. The music was loud and we were seated near the bathroom which was very busy with wedding guests.
This restaurant kept coming up in reccomendstiins, so we tried and wow are we glad we did.
Easy to find, and a beautiful setting.
From the greeting, through desert the service was very good and attentive, though not overbearingly.
Great wine list, and both entrees were fantastic, the duck and a red snapper special. Segueing into drinks and dessert, with the most amazing espresso martini ever.
Definitely will be back.
The ambience can't be beat - terrific lighting, so many interesting things to look at (chandeliers, tapestries, antiques) which makes it a great date spot (lots to talk about). Quiet enough to have a nice conversation. The food was amazing - we loved everything we ordered and the service was top-notch. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Definitely a hidden gem - we will be back for sure!
It was a slow Monday night, and we benefitted greatly from the quiet, the attentive waiter, and the lack of any sense of rush. The food was excellent, and we lingered over it. The mushroom risotto was outstanding. We came for an anniversary, and will certainly return before the next one. One note on the ambience: I do wish they would correct their GATEAUS sign to read GATEAUX.
I like CAV, but every time I go (Friday/Saturday night) it's empty and I leave feeling like I paid too much...even though I tend to overtip because I feel badly for the wait staff. It's a lovely spot, drinks are fabulous, food is good, but my friends and I don't necessarily enjoy eating in a near empty restaurant.
