About Catherine Lombardi
Catherine Lombardi was the grandmother of owner Mark Pascal. Pascal, co-owner with Francis Schott of Stage Left Steak Restaurant, brings his signature obsession with quality local ingredients to the cuisine of his youth. Catherine Lombardi's family came to Brooklyn from Naples. Her cooking was Neapolitan-based and heavily Brooklyn-influenced. It brought her whole extended family together every Sunday. Come taste why.
Cited Best New Restaurant and Best Italian Restaurant by NJ Monthly Readers’ Choice Poll, the red sauce is largely made from tomatoes the restaurant staff picks locally. Made-to-order mozzarella, pressed eggplant rollatini, great pasta and a veal chop to die for are highlights.
Hand-made fresh juice cocktails are featured at the cocktail bar overlooking revitalized downtown New Brunswick. 21 windows overlook downtown, offering a dramatic bird's-eye-view of The New Brunswick Theater District. It is a crown jewel in New Brunswick's thriving redevelopment.

Catherine Lombardi Ratings and Reviews
Food at Catherine Lombardi's is always great but was very disappointed that they ran out of both specials one of our guests wanted. Our waiter was nice but it was hard to get his attention when we wanted to pay the check and he did not check on us often as I know wait staff in the past have done.
This restaurant was an outstanding find. The appetizers, the wine and the entrees were phenomenal. The staff were very friendly and very good with descriptions of the menu. The touch of the fire places made the entire experience very soothing and Romantic for my girlfriend and I to start our first Valentines Day date. Your restaurant and staff set the tone of the night, I will highly recommend you restaurant and look forward to returning.
Food was delicious- we enjoyed everything we ordered. Fried calamari was seasoned perfectly with a light batter. Caesar salad was a bit on the heavy side with both a creamy dressing and a mound of shaved Parmesan but large enough to share. The pasta dishes looked wonderful to choose from and I decided on the garganelli with truffle cream sauce, prosciutto and asparagus. Absolutely decadent! My husband had the eggplant parm, which was different because it was pounded thin; he found it much easier to eat. We will return soon!
My first time visiting. My wife, who has been there many time in the past for business events has always given glowing reports. We met another couple for dinner. The food was great, the wait staff great accept for our main waiter who was inattentive to the point of being rude. He had about three tables to handle and we had lapses of 20 minutes when has was nowhere to be found.
We've always enjoyed Catherine Lombardi's not only for a night out but for pre-theater dining. The service is always prompt. The staff is professional and friendly. Whether ordering from the menu or selecting a nightly special, Catherine Lombardi's never disappoints!
Took my parents to a show at the state theatre but first we had dinner. We each ordered a different wine which came as a glass and a half. That was very nice touch. We started with the fried calamari which were tender and crispy. The three of us asked for the shrimp scampi over rice instead of pasta. They were very accommodating. It was delicious!! For dessert I had the lava cake Snd my mom had the coffee gelato. I had a cappuccino in a gigantic cup. It was heaven!
Atmosphere was nice and service was good but the food was very poor.
Fried Calamari was old and cold. I love calamari - and could not eat it. First time in memory that I did not finish my appetizer. Eggplant parmigana was cold and not tasty. 2 of 3 Cappucino's served were not hot. Balance of the meal was so so.
I would not return or recommend this restaurant.
Pre-Christmas Dinner - 2017 with friends
Visited Catherine Lombardi's restaurant just before Christmas with friends for a Pre-Christmas Special Dinner.
The restaurant was busy, but Service was exceptional.
The pace was perfect, and never felt rushed.
Food, wine, and craft beer selections were exceptional.
Interesting (but not too "out there") wine list; staff was knowledgeable about the choices and made excellent recommendations. Plentiful menu options and creative menu additions. Dinner, apps and dessert were excellent, and despite a busy evening staff was attentive.
This was our worst experience at this restaurant. The food was just so-so but the other diners in the restaurant were the most inconsiderate people ever. It was extremely difficult to have any conversation with my husband sitting right across from me due to 2 tables, one of which was a large group with 14 people that seemed to feel they were sitting in someone’s backyard instead of in a restaurant. The other table was a party of 4 women who were the loudest people ever. They seemed to be having a wonderful time but totally ignoring the fact that there were other people attempting to enjoy their meal. Their laughing was ridiculously loud and totally unnecessary in the setting. Overall a miserable dining experience and we skipped dessert, which I never do, just to get the check quicker to get the hell out of there.
Extremely noisy, we could not carry on a conversation. Food was very mediocre at best to downright disgusting. Had the filet mignon, very uneventful and not much taste. Had the spedini for appetizer, absolutely dreadful, was very dry and exceptionally chewy. The spedini is supposed to have an anchovy and caper sauce, but it was on the side and the anchovies were in strips not blended, what a nightmare.
The wine we ordered was $75 bottle, which looked and tasted like a $4 bottle of 3 buck chuck from Trader Joe's.
Save your money and appetite, go elsewhere.
This was our first time at Catherine Lombardi’s. We came in from the Chicago area over Thanksgiving week to visit our daughter, a student at Rutgers. We dined on Thanksgiving Day (5:30pm reservation). The Italian dishes were very good, the family-style turkey dinner was just ok (not their specialty). The service started out amazing. First round of drinks, appetizers, salad & pasta brought out quickly, water glasses constantly filled at the start of the meal. There was a LONG wait for our main course & the service STOPPED. No water refills & had to ask 3 times for additional non-alcoholic beverages before they were brought out. The server did remove the charge for the 2nd sodas from our bill, but I would have rather paid for them & had our service continue. The desserts were delicious! It’s unfortunate we had a service problem because the food is overall worth going back for.
