About Catherine Lombardi
Catherine Lombardi was the grandmother of owner Mark Pascal. Pascal, part owner of Stage Left Restaurant, brings his signature obsession with quality local ingredients to the cuisine of his youth. Catherine Lombardi's family came to Brooklyn from Naples. Her cooking was Neapolitan-based and heavily Brooklyn-influenced. It brought her whole extended family together every Sunday. Come taste why.

Valet parking is available at $10-$15 per vehicle located at The Heldrich Hotel. We do not have a parking lot. There is some on street (some times metered) parking. There are also city parking garages, lots and decks.
The restaurant is located a few minute walk from the New Brunswick train station, on the New Jersey Transit - Northeast Corridor line.

Everything about this restaurant is simply perfect! Outstanding food and drink - wonderful, diverse menu! Excellent service by knowledgeable and thoughtful professionals! Beautiful, elegant - yet relaxed - ambience! Very bright and airy during the daytime and very cozy and sophisticated in the evening, with wonderfully muted lighting! The best dining experience that we have had....... since our first visit to "sister restaurant", Stage Left, just a few weeks ago! Two simply exceptional venues - we can't wait to return to both!!
We have dined here more times than we can count. Besides the everyday menu the specials are always interesting. Good selection of beer and wine. The service is always first class and we will be back again soon...
btw... don't miss out on the very garlic bread, a winner every time.
First off, the bartender was adorable, a great mixologist and made us feel very welcome. Then when we sat in the dining room near the fireplace, the staff was absolutely wonderful and extremely attentive. The food was excellent. Everyone was so friendly and made our birthday dinner experience one that we will never forget. Thank you to all!
This was my second visit to Catherine Lombardi's in New Brunswick. I live in Connecticut and was in town for a show at the State Theater. Once again the food was outstanding! The variety to choose from on the menu is also a plus! The service was cordial and very professional!
I highly recommend a visit! I would visit quite often if I lived in the area. Bravo to all involved at Catherine Lombardi's!!
Our pre-theater dinner started out great: The cocktails were very good, the salad was excellent, the wait-people were plentiful and friendly, the menu looked juicy and the bread was good. Also, the owner came over to schmooze, and it was pleasant. The entrees, on the other hand, were just okay. I had the pappardelle bolognese, which to my taste needed less tomato; my wife an osso buco, which I tasted and thought was good but she didn't care for it much. Then we ordered a shared dessert, and asked for doggie bags for our dinners. A half hour later we got a "molten" chocolate - something that was over-cooked and completely dry. They took it off the check, which was nice of them, but waiting that long for a yucky dessert was a "no-pass" as far as we are concerned.
Wait staff did not communicate with each other and were not on the same page. Staff attempted to french serve the table ie all plates hit the table at the same time but totally botched and pretty much just slammed the plates on the table.Cleared our dinner plates before people were done eating. Did not know the wine list or any of the items on it. They did not have the port wine we ordered after our dinner but it took them 25 minutes to figure that out because no one knew what the bottle was. Food was good but because of the lack of professionalism and knowledge from the wait staff I don't think it was worth the price.
We ate at Catherine Lombardi's on Saturday night before the show at the State Theater. The appetizers were very good. I had the Caprese Salad, our friend choose 3 of the small appetizers and my husband had a Caesar salad. For the main course I had the chicken scarpiello, and the other 3 in our party had pasta. I asked if I could have my chicken over pasta. Well, they brought me a small dish of dry pasta. I didn't even bother eating it. The 3 pasta dishes were really bad. Whatever they put in their gravy is horrible. It left a terrible after taste, and tasted bad to begin with. For an Italian restaurant to have such bad tasting gravy, at those prices is extremely surprising. I do not think we will be going to this restaurant ever again.
The staff seemed to want to move our dinner along very quickly; they continued to fill our wine glasses as soon as it was a little low and then once we were done, they scooped in while we were talking and just took our glasses away; we went there for our 25th wedding anniversary; food was ok; not worth the money we paid; the ambiance was very nice and I'm sure when the fireplaces are on in the winter, it will be lovely. The manager made a comment to us as we left (he had seem my husband yawn at the table; he did cover his mouth) and said "try and stay awake this evening"; I'm sure he was trying to be funny; however, if they are trying to keep it an upscale place, those comments are not needed and it was our anniversary.
We had tickets for Jersey Boys at the State Theatre and procrastinated about making dinner reservations. Catherine Lombardi's was close, however the only time we could get was 4:15 for an 8pm show. They could not have been more accommodating! Told us to take our time, didn't need table until 7. The food was incredible as was the service. We used to go to a different restaurant before our shows, but not more! Can't wait to go back. Highly recommend Catherine Lombardi's no matter what the occasion.
Overall it did not meet my expectations. Most of the food was disappointing. I had the shrimp scampi, it was over cooked and bland. My friend's basil linguini was tough (not al denote) and tasteless. The eggplant rollatini was delicious, along with the calamari and garlic bread.
This was a return visit to the Stage Left/Catherine Lombardi duo of wonderful resturants. The food is always distinctive but what really popped on this visit were the new cocktails, Erin our server, and some of the specials. In the case of the cocktails and the specials, Erin distinguished herself with the depth of knowledge of both. She took the role of 'guide' through our visit; as the resturant was about half full, we took advantage of our time and she really added to our visit! Will look forward to the return visit.

Had a great first time at Catherine Lombardi. We were attending an event at the State Theatre after dinner and restaurant was very accommodating. The food was outstanding and I loved the dessert we picked...The Toffee Pudding. Staff was helpful and kind. Looking forward to visiting again.
Ordered burrata appetizer. It was served as a large opaque blob on a black plate with no accompaniment. Strange and eating too much alone would make you I'll.
Entree was seafood far Diablo, bland dry was extremely over cooked.
The server was excellent and very professional and knowledable, after all of our difficulty she didn't say away and they ensured prompt and caring service
Love the ambience. Very relaxing and the service was great. Two of three meals were wonderful. The pappardelle Bolognese was very acidic, waaaayyyy too red for me. Would be better in a more traditional style of the brownish creamy sauce. That is my favorite dish and I would not order it again unless something was done to change the texture and taste. Garlic bread was great, Veal dish was good and the pasta with sausage and broccoli rabe was very good too.
Catherine Lombardi’s is one of my favorite restaurants in the country ( and I travel regularly for business). Whether it’s a dinner with friends or a business event with 30/40 guests, the service never waivers and the food is consistently exceptional. Wish there more than 5 stars to choose from! You’re truly missing out if you have not dined at Catherine Lombardi’s.... so stop reading and make your reservations!
