It was a great and wonderful night for a private birthday.
Terrible pasta, worse lasagna. Not home made, probably frozen and heated in the microwave. The place and the service is good, the food at the same level of any fast food chain, but with bistro prices
Food was excellent as usual, great place.
Went on 4/7 on a date night and made reservations so we would have a table. We sat at a table for 2 and were 2 feet apart and we could not have a conversation. Mostly because there was a party of about 20 or more in the restaurant for a birthday party and they were LOUD. Could not talk, service was awful because I had to flag people down to get a water refill and had to ask several times for the check to get out of there!! The place is nice but not cheap so I would at least like to have a conversation with my date but because the greedy owners shoe horned a party in the main room the experience was awful, NEVER GOING BACK!!!!
Bar service was very slow otherwise very good
Dinner was delicious!! The wine was superb!! The staff was just wonderful!! We will definitely go back!!
We've eaten here many times over the years but had stopped because the constant upselling had gotten out of hand. Happy to say it was kept to a minimum on this visit. Food was good. Had one special, the gnocchi and one orichetti with sausage. Garlic was burnt in the orichetti but otherwise tasted fine. Gnocchi were oddly browned on the bottom but also tasted fine. Service was ridiculously slow. Salad came right away but we waited forever for our entrees. There are better choices in New Brunswick these days.
Best place for pre theatre dining! Always an excellent meal! Wine list is superb !
Absolutely delicious!!!! A gem in New Brunswick! We always stop when we go to the State theater
Despite having a pre-show dinner for 8 people for a sold out show next door, the service, hand-crafted cocktails, hospitality, and food were impeccable. Knowledgeable staff who have learned from the best and strive to deliver a great dining experience. Well done...as always!
Great service, delicious food. Great place to eat before a show at the State Theatre.
Food was very good, but the service left something to be desired. By far, bus boy provided best service, was very attentive throughout.
After asking waiter for drinks, had to ask a 2nd time for the drinks after not than 10 minutes. Then ordered a 2nd round of drinks and again had to ask the waiter a 2nd time for the drink after a number of minutes.
Also, ordered dessert. Waiter didn’t write down anything, which is not uncommon, but yet he had to come back and ask my wife for her order because he forgot.
Would highly recommend the food, but service needs to be addressed.
Meeting the in laws
My husband took me here for dinner after he proposed. We had a group of 10 family members join us. The night was perfect! Food was delicious. Since then (it’s been 10 years), we have dined here around our wedding anniversary annually. I have to be honest- this time wasn’t the same. Our service was very slow, our dinner was fair, and our table wasn’t set with proper utensils. I was disappointed. This is disheartening because Catherine Lombardi does hold a special place in my heart. Maybe it was just an off evening... or I’d like to believe so.
They didn't rush us and we were able to enjoy good food and great company. All in all it was a wonderful evening
The Veal Parmigiana was incredible as was the Calamari. The gnocchi with wild Boar was good and the bread pudding was great also. Will definitely go back again. The service is good and the owners are extremely nice and engaging.
we were there for our 46th anniversary and u made it so special...a show and a wonderful dinner made it perfect....thank you
Very disappointed this visit---waiter recommended Steak Pizzaiola stating good cut of beef, ordered it medium--served rare and so tough it was not edible. Wild Boar Bolognese was good, but pasta was heavy. Many waiters but little attention to our concern on the steak. Long wait for our cappuccinos too....must have sat as they were luke warm upon delivery to table. Another long wait for our bill, which was delivered with an after dinner drink for steak being served rare? May be an off night but we were disappointed and had higher expectations based on having dined here in the past. Will explore other options in New Brunswick for future visits!
Great meal. Very accommodating for our theatre time. Even offered to have us come back for dessert after the show.
A favorite spot particularly when going to the State Theater.
Always amazingly delicious! On my recent visit, the server allowed me to create my own dish with swordfish and broccoli rabe. I received a delicious piece of swordfish and the broccoli rabe was cooked to perfection! Looking forward to returning in a few weeks!
Went here right before a show at the state theater. Service was amazing as was the food. Not cheap but definitely worth it. I will definitely go there again.
The restaurant was wonderful, and much quieter than on a previous visit. We had a theater reservation and all the staff worked hard to make sure we were finished in plenty of time. The food was delicious. When ordering we asked for a different dressing on our salads and they made that change very obligingly. The veal scaloppini marsala was excellent. Some restaurants make it too sweet but this one was perfect. The apple pie dessert was particularly good with light, crusty pastry.
Overall it was a very good evening and we will definitely go again. I recommend Catherine Lombardi's.
We had 2 people who were gluten free and they were great! Even had GF bread! Also had two kids with us and there was no kids menu. They made special Mac and cheese for them(delicious), one GF, one regular! They went out of their way to ensure that all 6 of us had s great experience and delicious entrees. Outstanding!
Really good meal. It would be nice to have smaller portions for children. Service was exceptional
My Daughter and I were going to The State Theater for a St. PATRICKS DAY show and dined here prior to the show. Staff very friendly, food very good, cocktails very well made. I can't wait to go back with my wife and try the Lasanga as I opted for the Veal Parmesan.Very friendly Staff, delicious food, nice setting, nice evening with my Daughter. Thank you for a great experience in you your wonderful restaurant.
The food was excellent and I was very pleased with the service. I will definitely go back.
Great! Food is excellent.
Food was ok but nothing special. Very friendly staff and very welcoming. Nice decor. Appetizers were shared among six people. The mozzarella and roasted peppers was ok, a little on the cheap side hardly any roasted peppers. Everyone had a pasta dish, it was average but nothing special. Cappuccino was good, cream brûlée was good. Probably wouldn’t go back because lots of other better spots.
We have been there many times and thought Food/Service was very good. On the last dinner we had
Mainly the service was bad. The waiter took the order and after that hoped all his assistants would do the rest
they forgot to ask for cheese on the pasta. Sweetener for the coffee, forgot the desert. Last was trying to get a check took 15 mins.
I think it’s time for someplace new
We enjoyed another fantastic meal at Catherine Lombardi's before the Doo Wop show at the State Theatre on Saturday night. This is our favorite restaurant to dine at before any show at the State Theatre. Service is always great and attentive. Friendly staff . Owners always stop at tables to chat.
Incredibly accommodating for someone with Celiac Disease - would recommend for Gluten-free diners. They even had Gluten-free bread offerings.
Love the at home feel from the couches to the warming glow of the fireplaces and table and floor lamps. Service was wonderful. The veal dishes were delicious and the pasta dish was out of this world. Made for a very special birthday dinner. Will definitely be back.
The stuffed mushrooms were outrageous. The bolognese is magnificent. My husband enjoyed the special tortellini with goat cheese and pears. The cookie plate was disappointing and next time we will order the molten cake earlier as it takes 20 minutes to prepare.
I attend this place once a month with my family of 5 and we usually have a great time. This past weekend, I took my 12 year old who loves the food. Our waiter must have been new because he stunk. His lousy service ruined our meal. I spent $118.32 for me and my 12 year old daughter and we left unhappy. I guess you can ask for an experienced waiter upon arrival.
We went for my daughter's birthday and the staff at Catherine Lombardi's went above and beyond to make her dinner memorable!
Friendly and eager to please wait staff gave us good suggestions (glad we didn't pass up the very garlic bread or the molten chocolate cake). The atmosphere is charmingly rustic with a large fireplace complete with lovely fire. The signature lasagna is the best, and we were glad we had taken home what we were not able to finish at the table. Only (very small) complaint is that coffee wasn't very hot. I know we could have asked for a fresh cup and it would not have been a problem, but we were short on time, so we let it be. We would definitely eat here again (wish we could do it tomorrow!)
Right at the start of the NB theater district and across from a hotel, this place overlooks George Street and features excellent food (the lasagna is hearty and tasty), extensive wine list, great servers and can be a good value (unless you insist on $$ wine LOL). Definitely a favorite.
Our dinner at Catherine Lombardi was exceptional! I was delighted that they had a coat check (optional), and the ambiance was warm and cozy while setting an upscale mood. The service was impeccable, the food was phenomenal, and our experience was all that we hoped it would be! We will definitely be coming back to dine here again.
We had already started our appetizers when our neighbors walked in. They seated her at her table and then her husband came in. We invited them to join us and the staff was very accommodating, moving them to our table and merging our orders. The food was delicious as usual and we enjoyed the evening.
