Catfish Dewey's Ratings and Reviews
A bit over rated. We did enjoy the fish house digs and the quick seating for our reservation. Server was friendly and fit the motif of the restaurant.
Stone crab app was a-ok. Crab leg and lobster tail entree was fine but nothing to write home about. The AYCE “scallops” and catfish were disappointing due to the fake scallops.
If a return is in order would not order those again.
Maybe try again, maybe not.
We arrived at Catfish Dewey’s for dinner and were immediately seated. We received tall glasses of water with lemon, coleslaw and a basket of hushpuppies immediately, then the server came over to take our drink and food orders. The food came out very quickly . We thoroughly enjoyed our dinners and will certainly be back. I think this will be one of our favorite haunts.
Whenever we visit Ft Lauderdale during the season we eat many times at Dewey's to enjoy the stone crab. Sean and Dolores at outstanding servers with whom we've enjoyed many conversations. For the price, the stone crab can't be beaten.
On a negative side, after arriving for our last reservation made through Open Table, (which I reconfirmed on the phone) the hostess Patricia told us that they don't recognize Open Table reservations if they're busy. We'd just have to wait. Fortunately for us, with the help of another staff member, we were able to avoid Patricia's unwelcoming attitude and we were seated in Sean's serving area.
The parking situation is a nightmare. I did finally figure it out. You paid to park in a strip mall across the street. My wife's fried shrimp meal was good. I had a grilled seafood combo. The fish and side dish were both lukewarm at best. The scallops and shrimp were good.
Alex was our server and did an excellent job.
I would recommend this restaurant if the parking situation was not so ridiculous. Not sure it is worth the trouble. In fairness it was crowded and doing a great amount of business on a Saturday night. You might want to try it on a week night.
The service was slow and quite poor. The tables weren’t cleared properly. We weren’t checked on and water wasn’t refilled.
The food tends to be salty, especially the clam chowder. My sister in laws Lobster was way over cooked! Our king crab claws were great!
Disappointed that there was no unlimited stone crabs and apparently hadn’t been for much of season. Would have appreciated being told that upfront not once we sat. We were then told there were 2 left which waitress said she would hold for us. Ten minutes later she came back to tell us someone had taken then. We ordered other food which was good but disappointed on how it was handled.
With a reservation of which this establishment takes few, we were seated right at the bathroom entrance and there were many tables available. It took over 15 minutes to even order drinks. No set up on the table. Waitress had an attitude. It seems 4 pm is a bad time at this restaurant. Waitress was slow moving and there was a shift change to which she was leaving. Pushed out and of course became congenial when it was time for a tip. Not happy. Frequent this restaurant but not again.
We arrived a few minutes prior to our reservation time and there was no parking. The attendant in the overflow lot across the street said to wait in the street. Still no space past our now missed time. We had to leave. People were waiting outside for stonecrab we were told. I think they should have blocked reservations knowing the crowd and wait was so long.
Despite the name (catfish - which I do not like), Menu is composed of an array of dishes that will please even the most discerning epicurian. Surf and Turf with a side od pasta was ample and I couldn't finish it. My wife had twin lobster tail and she could finish it !! On other days, they have All-You-Can-EAT" (Check their daily menu). The place was crowded and reservations are highly recommended. Parking spots fills out quickly and you might have leave your car at the gas station (next door) where someone will watch your car for you. If this is also full, than there is $3.00 parking lot next to the gas station. Tip-It was Friday night and the place was packed. Definitely a place to put on your map of South Florida,
