Catch Twenty Three - Tampa Ratings and Reviews
Food has been sub-standard my last two visits.
And while the restaurant was not even 50% full, the service was really slow.
Not sure if food vendors, management, or what has changed, but something has.
Disappointing, as it used to be a cute go-to neighborhood place.
Parking wasn't great, it was inside a planned neighborhood that has shops in front. The restaraunt itself is sort of a bar/restaraunt combo. Not the best ambiance, but nice enough for a group dinner. The food was decent and the portion sizes are large. Especially the desserts! Service was good as well.
Living nearby, we have long appreciated having a great dining venue in Catch 23. And upon every visit, we enjoyed great service, fine food and a fair price. So we arrived recently expecting a good dining experience. The bar was absolutely packed, and very noisy as we were seated in a quieter area. And then we waited for our server. And waited, and waited. Three different servers passed our table and never stopped. So after 15 minutes, we left. I asked on the way out if they were understaffed, and was told no, it was the crowd in the bar. So, good for the bar crowd, and so sorry for us to have our admiration of this local restaurant undercut.
The oysters were fresh. Cocktails good! I think my sea bass was previously frozen and the asparagus wasn't cut properly (and it was extra). My husband's filet was good. The reason we won't be back or recommend this place is because it was so noisy that we had to yell across at each other and we were in a booth. Oh, one more thing- the service was very good!
The ambiance was great and the service was outstanding; however, the sushi was subpar. The sushi rolls were rather flavorless and quite hard. Additionally, we order sushi is many different restaurants in Tampa, and this is the first place we've encountered that did not have a low sodium soy sauce available.
Food was dried out and cool when it arrived. Had to send my daughter's food to be reheated. We have gone to this restaurant for a long time but have finally given it up after this last experience on Xmas eve. Waiter sold us on the special and it was terrible. Maybe trying t get rid of it.
Even though we had reservations, they were really backed up and offered for us to sit in the bar and they gave us 2 free appetizers for the inconvenience, which was really nice and appreciated. But our service was really slow and we had to flag down our server several times for drink refills.
This was the second time dining here, the first time was pretty good. We gave it another shot hoping for the same and we just were not impressed. I went with the skirt steak on the waitresses recommendation, and i couldn’t get passed the fact that it tasted like gas, and my fiancé complained of the same thing. I couldn’t even taste the chimichurri. They did have a delicious “Kickin Mule” though, that was the best part of my meal. Our table’s light didn’t work, so it was extremely dark, and the noise level made it a not so great experience.
