NOT the restaurant it was at one time. We had not been there for 18 months and immediately noticed they had jammed in quite a large number of tables in the dining area. We sat down at 6:00 PM and ordered drinks. 20 minutes later we ordered our food and we did not see our waiter again for over an hour. Others brought our food out and replenished our drinks. My wife's steak was suppose to be medium rare and was almost well done. We decided not to send it back as it took 50 minutes for it to come out, mind you there were only 6-8 other people in the dining area. We were very surprised to see a couple walk in the dining room with a very large dog and instruct the dog to lay down next to their table. As the dining room started to fill the noise level and close proximity of the tables made conversation difficult. The dining attire evident in the room was beach casual. Flip flops and dogs!!!!!! We will not be back. Sad it used to be a wonderful.
All good, especially the food which was excellent. Squid Ink pasta the best thing we had. Only real issue was that they forgot that it was a birthday meal, even after being reminded when we sat down. When it got busy, the quality of service dropped off.....they seemed to get a little rushed.
Beautiful view. The service was good, but our servers seemed quite stretched to cover many tables, which slowed down our access to our waiter. Every dish served to our party of 8 was delicious. Too bad that bread or rolls are not available; we would have liked some. Something is different here...some of the energy and luster is gone with the whole lobby. It's still beautiful and the location is magnificent, but it needs to hit "refresh."
For my son and brother's joint birthday dinner, this restaurant pulled out the stops, treating my family like we were celebs. The food is terrific, and everything was just wonderful. It has been years since I've been here, but I'm going to come more often now, because it's just great!
The service did not meet our expectations. Took too long to be served the appetizers (25 minutes); When the entree arrived, the server had no place to put the plates because no one had taken away the appetizer dishes. My friends and I had to pick up our plates and hold until someone could take from us. I expected much better service from a restaurant like Catch Del Mar. A $400 bill and such a disappointing experience. We will not be going back to this restaurant.
Six of us went for a special birthday. We were greeted, but no one came back to take our drink orders - for 20 minutes! We sat there with nothing. We complained to the manager, but they really could have cared less and did nothing for us. The restaurant wasn't that busy and another table was having the same issue. Food was good, but we'll never go back. Worst service and management experience we've had at a restaurant in years. Too bad!
the waiter was awful, felt like he couldn't be bothered at all to serve us and seemed irritated at what I ordered, even though it was an appetizer, it was as much as a dinner entrée - I don't think I will return here, as much as I love the ambience of the hotel itself
Mistakenly thought this location would be like the one in New York. I was very wrong. The sushi was good, the King Crab crostini that the server bragged about was about as tasty as canned crab on toasted rye bread. The scallops were big and pretty good. The atmosphere was like a cafeteria in a nice hotel overlooking people walking along the sidewalk along the beach. The atmosphere was far better in the hotel lounge. No reason to go out of your way to go to this place, but if you're there the food is fairly decent. I'd recommend the sushi. Oh, and for the prices they charge they should put white table clothes on the tables.
Everything about Catch was just perfect. It is inside Casa del Mar, which is a bustling hotel in Santa Monica near the beach. The restaurant sits just beside a very popular bar, but the restaurant itself was relative quiet and the food was superb. We started with a Cesar salad and an assortment of sushi and then I had the scallops which I loved and my friend had the roast chicken. He ate every bite. What I really liked is that the food wasn't over engineered. You don't have to reinvent everything all the time. Sometimes it's nice just to have an excellent, classic pice of roast chicken! For desert we split the passion fruit float. I would not hesitate to recommend the restaurant or return myself.
Great time and great ambiance. Food was excellent. I had the Sea Bass and friend had the Salmon. Both were excellent. Cold sea food platter for appetizer was also excellent. Only criticism is the corkage fee. Very high at $40 when typical for area is $20-$25.
Food and atmosphere was amazing. Service was incredible. I had a wardrobe malfunction and (I think) the restaurant manager who happened to be in our area came to the rescue with three different size safety pins she went all the way to housekeeping for.. It was above the call of duty and I really appreciated it, even if my date would've preferred the view ;)
The food was excellent. The view of the Santa Monica beach was great. However, the hostess should be replaced. We requested a window seat on our OpenTable reservation , but when we arrived there weren't any two person window tables left. She told us if we want a window table we will have to wait. So we settled for a regular table. To our surprise, about ten minutes later, two ladies came in and the hostess separated a four person window table to seat the ladies. Why can't she do that for us? We are not caucasian. We wonder does race has anything to do with this?
You can't beat the view, especially at the window-side tables -- there is the Venice beach laid out beneath you, close enough to ogle the sunbathers, and sailboats beating northward -- just gorgeous. The food is good but not great. Very fresh piece of swordfish, yummy tuna poke (see picture), so-so pea soup, very nice floating island. The prices are jaw-dropping, as is typical for a hotel restaurant -- $18 cocktails, which is lot for a Manhattan (they call it Brooklyn, but a rose...), $35 mains, $10 bottle of water. The dining room is beautiful even without the view, a very elegant setting. The service when we were there (early on Wednesday, almost empty room) was slow and spotty -- friendly, but not efficient. I would definitely take out-of-town guests here, especially when the weather back home is undesirable, just for the glam/wow factor.
This was an amazing place. The view of the beach was perfect. Definitely go for their daily sushi happy hour. The lobster mango roll was heaven. Their Glasgow Mule cocktail was life 🙌🏾 Dessert wasn't amazing, but not bad. I would definitely recommend this place.
It started off well. The raw dishes we ordered were great. After that, the rest of the food was lackluster. We took the waitress's recommendation and got the squid ink pasta, the "house specialty,", and it was underwhelming. There were three clams in the dish, and one of them wasn't even open. All the shrimp in the dish were overcooked and chewy, as were the calamari. We then had the short rib, which was also overcooked and a bit dry. On top of that, our waitress seemed to disappear for long stretches of time, so we decided to just skip dessert. We were there for my girlfriend's birthday, which I noted in the reservation, but there was never any acknowledgement of that.
Requested a window tAble well in advance. Didn't get it. Service very slow although waiter was very nice. Food good but overpriced. We could not get them to bring a check until I literally got up and went over to the bar where the waitstaff was chatting together and asked for the bill. Then it took a few more minutes to come, and then nobody came to take the credit card. I finally took it over to the reservation desk myself and paid it. Truly strange unprofessional behavior. embarrassing and inconvenient. Parking attendant gruff. Patrons waiting were loud drunk and wearing so much perfume we could hardly breathe. There probably won't be a next time.
Food was very good. Service was disappointing at best. Waiter never refilled water glasses, did not clear crumbs after dishes removed. He seemed to simply disappear for long periods and was disengaged for the entire evening. The restaurant did acknowledge our anniversary. Overall, not sure I would be willing to try again just because the service was so disappointing.
It's a bit hard to find ... inside the hotel, upstairs and in the back. With absolutely no signage. The maître d' desk is sort of hidden and not obvious at all. They were not particularly busy but had a difficult time finding my Open Table reservation --- even though they had called me the day before to confirm. (Note to restaurants: If your procedure includes calling people to "confirm" please just STOP. It's intrusive, a waste of time, and totally unnecessary. If you must confirm, please do so electronically so I can answer when it's convenient for me.)
The table was lovely and the service adequate UNTIL the waiter dropped a bottle of wine on our table. It bounced and fell on the floor --- it the process it spilled half the bottle in my lap. There was a flurry of activity and several extra napkins appeared. But no apology. After we got it cleaned up (my pants would stay wet for hours --- it was not a small spill) there was still no mention of an apology or offer to dry clean my suit pants. I finally quietly mentioned to the waiter that I'd be sending a bill for the dry cleaning ---- still no apology, but he sent over the manager. Again --- no apology, just a very confused young woman who couldn't figure out how to solve the problem. Since we were not staying at this hotel she actually suggested that I either leave my slacks or bring them back the next day. Amazing.
No comp'ed food, wine, or dessert. The manager never came back. The table got a great laugh and suggested I "drop my trousers" in the middle of the dining room. I thought better of it and we left pretty amused with the breathtakingly poor customer service.
The food was great and the view was wonderful ----- but all anyone noticed was the monumental failure of staff to solve a very small problem.
High ceilings, tall windows, right on the beach with beautiful views. This is a gorgeous restaurant that is perfect for a night out with the girls, a business meal, a romantic date, a special occasion, the private room is one of the nicest in the city and the restaurant itself is beautiful without feeling stuffy or uptight with great food and great service. This is restaurant that has only gotten better with time.
