As its name suggests this is a fish restaurant and has few choices for vegetarians and carnivores (risotto and steak I believe). There are two seating areas, a patio next to the sidewalk with a gas log fireplace, and an interior dining room with a large bar area. We were seated in the patio and despite record cold temperatures in SF the inside temperature was OK (after we asked to be moved from being seated next the clear plastic barrier that separates some tables from the sidewalk, which was drafty and cold). The patio is a good option when the weather in SF in nice.
The food is average, definitely nothing to rave about. As with most other SF restaurants the price of most appetizers is in the mid teens and entrees $25 and up. I opted for two appetizers since none of the entrees appealed to me despite liking fish.
I started with fried calamari. It was a generous portion and not overloaded with breadcrumbs. The deep fried slices of orange and lemon were a nice touch. I followed with the mussels which was a mistake since they were in a thick coconut sauce which was very sweet and made me wonder if it was to disguise the taste/smell of the mussels. I'd avoid the mussels if I go back since I prefer a more traditional presentation in broth or white wine.
We skipped dessert since it was clear our server was waiting for us to leave so she could get her tip.
Catch is our go-to for a solid restaurant with good food, nice atmosphere, and where we can hear each other!
Great ambiance and service, food was good. We were a reservation for 4 that had one drop out, so we three were seated sort of in the doorway to the front part of the restaurant, which was a bit cumbersome and not very private. Had to keep scooting outer chair out of the way of waiters. I would go again, it fills a need, just wasn't happy with seating.
Five of us had a great birthday celebration. Enjoyed every part of it from a drink at the bar to dessert.
Very pleased with food, bread was excellent and overall a wonderful dining experience. We were seated by the fire and a cold San Franciscan night.
Excellent food, cocktails, and service!!!
Great service and food! We had a party of 10, all served at the same time and food was hot.
Service and ambiance was great. Very nice touch with a live piano music, and was out of the way so it was not the center of attention. However, the food was quite bland. Fish was perfectly cooked, but not much flavor. Too much cream in the Risotto.
Great drinks, food, and lovely atmosphere with live piano
The food at Catch is excellent-very tasty, great quality and great service. Staff is very accommodating. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
We had a lovely meal at Catch. The seated us by the fireplace and we enjoyed their amazing crab risotto. The service was very professional and helpful. We look forward to returning !
Catch is our go-to on a short notice. Food is always very good, service is attentive and the atmosphere is always lively. Catch never disappoints.
I've been going to Catch for years but typically for lunch. I was not familiar with our server. Very nice young man but a few mis steps for me. Water was never brought or offered, either was bread. Bread is a great treat at Catch.
The food at Catch is consistent, and very tasty. The service was good, and on a Tuesday night it was pretty quiet when sitting outside.
We were seeing a double bill at the Castro and wanted to try someplace nearby we hadn't before. Found Catch on OpenTable, liked the menu and reviews, so booked a reservation. We were very pleasantly surprised to be served some of the best seafood we've ever had in SF. We were seated beside a circular fireplace in a cozy little anteroom. My husband and I both had grilled tuna over artichoke hearts, roasted Yukon gold potatoes, and green beans. The green beans were a tad undercooked and under-seasoned. But the rest of the dish was fabulous. For dessert, he had the brioche bread pudding with whipped cream and whiskey sauce. I had a type of crunchy baked chocolate cake filled with creamy vanilla gelato and topped with a drizzle of caramel. Both dishes were heavenly!
One my “go to” favorite seafood restaurants in San Francisco. Today we have the salmon with corn risotto. Outstanding !!! Good service and an outdoor patio for people watching makes this a must try!
The tuna poke was good, the cioppino was just OK and the risotto was a bit undercooked and mushy at the same time. It honestly just didn't seem fresh. The sea bass was fine.
The wine list is good and on the evening we went, bottles were 50% off, which was a great deal. I've been here a few times and the food is good. The menu is varied and the fish is always cooked well and has nice flavor. The issue for me is that the chef is a bit heavy handed when seasoning other components (broth, risotto, etc.). The service is warm, gracious, and swift.
We've been regulars for months now. LOVE it. Sanjay and his team are professional, polite, attentive, and friendly.
Always wonderful!! The food is outstanding and consistent. The Turley Zin is a very good thing too. Highly recommend.
