Our server was helpful and attentive, but not hovering. The ambiance was very nice especially for a date night or dinner and conversation with friends. The civiche app was excellent as were our entrees (halibut and salmon). Highly recommend!
Not for special occasions. We went for my birthday; my husband had the best meal, he said, in months. I was disappointed. I told the host it was my birthday, he specifically asked me my name. My husband told our waiter it was my birthday. He eats slowly and most Resurant’s rush him, but the timing, while mechanical, was not rushed. For my dessert, the bread pudding, no candle, nothing special. The outside was cold, the inside too hot to eat. Meh. My husband was raving about his meal. Me, I wished I picked another place.
From outside it looks like a secret place , we even hesitated to enter. Once inside we clearly knew it will be great. Great food , great service. A bit loud!
We loved it!!!
Great food. Great service.
Friendly atmosphere good service and good food
Overall the food was just good. The calamari was bland and didn't taste fresh. Short ribs were very good and the lobster linguine was good. The waiter was too touchy feely.
My husband and I eat here all the time and we live 44 miles away. It’s simply a wonderful place to eat and enjoy. Highly recommended.
Family brunch with. Two small kids was great!
We had a great time hosting a birthday dinner. The staff and food were exceptional. Definitely coming back!
Wasn’t really impressed with the menu options.
Below average quality of food, the fish didn’t feel fresh. The ciopinno was oily, it lacked flavor and it’s color was dark. The tomatoes and herbs weren’t fresh. Felt like who ever owns this place has it as a side money generating business, because it truly lacks any sense of ownership.
I came looking for high quality fresh seafood. I left disappointed. Overall the food didn’t feel easy on my digestive system after we left.
Always a good catch at Catch. Fresh seafood, nice services, enjoyable environment specially at the front area viewing Market street. The fire place in the middle is a nice touch. Food is always delicious. Good choice of wines and prices are reasonable for the quality and tasteful food served.
We eat at Catch fairly regularly, but on this most recent trip we discovered the new menu!
LOBSTER TACOS, and FRIED GREEN TOMATOES WITH CRABMEAT....amazing.
The special fish dish of the night was Alaskan Halibut and it was outstanding.
Great martinis and a great wine list....
And never forget the chocolate souffle! Worth the calories.
Sanjay, Alberto.....fantastic job as always!
Catch remains our favorite Castro dining spot!! :)
Delicious food, mostly from the ocean plus friendly and quick service
Excellent fried green tomatoes and paella. Very attentive waiter.
Restaurant was recommended to us during our LGBTQ history tour through the Castro district and we were not disappointed. Beautiful AIDS quilt on the wall in solidarity with the victims of the epidemic. Nice menu with lots of great seafood options. Some good options to share and it seems very fresh. Service was attentive but not too knowledgeable about the wine. Would go there again...
Lovely restaurant with quiet ambiance and delicious food. I enjoyed the black cod and my husband lapped up every drop of his Cioppino. The service was spot on.
Catch is always wonderful. Staff is professioal and customer first oriented. Ambience is great. Love coming here!
The food was excellent. The place is very inviting especially around the fireplace. The host and our waiter were very friendly and took good care of us without hovering. Will tell friends and will definitely return!
Reserved for birthday dinner (mentioned when booking), this was never acknowledged during dinner.
Friendly trained staff
wine reasonably priced
Parking is tough
We again enjoyed a well prepared and nicely served dinner -- and sitting in the patio next to the fireplace was an added treat for a birthday dinner. We especially enjoyed the onion soup -- a slight variation on the traditional which was delicious and hearty. The halibut was nicely prepared, although the tangy puree it was sitting on rather overwhelmed the delicate flavor of the fish. We appreciated the complimentary birthday dessert.
A neighborhood classic and always a good place for a good time with friends. Place seemed to be swimming with new energy as the food, drinks and service didn’t disappoint. Many had fish that was perfectly cooked and very fresh. We all enjoyed the piano player and the warm fire and energy. Keep up the great work!
We had great food and and really good server named Cathleen. She was very friendly, knows the menu with great suggestions and very attentive. Will go back. Hope to have her as a server again.
Great service and even better food
Second visit to Catch. We will be back again.
Meh. Rude waiter. Pretty lame tbh
This was my first visit to Catch, and I was definitely pleased with the food. Although I had made a reservation, as usual I noticed that seating options for the single diner are not always what they should be, and single diners are often shuffled to the "less popular" seating areas. This held true for me, and although I was given an "option", my table was still in a traffic area for waiters and other table support staff.
Individual service was good, but certainly not above average. While I had a gaggle of wait staff hovering around my table, they were not attending to me, simply gathering in a place next to my table. The one wait staff who was assigned to my table, seemed to be able to absent himself from this area and forgot some basic aspects of greeting the guest and providing attentive service. I finally had to ask one of the "hovering wait staff" to bring me water and to bring bread to my table. One other "flaw" in the service was the delivery of courses befor the previous course was finished. There are few things more disappointing that to have one's main course delivered while only halfway through eating the appetizers or first course. Such service gives the impression that the guest is being "hurried" through his meal.
However, regardless of the minor faux paux of the wait staff, the food was superb, and I will return to CATCH when I am again in San Francsico. Fried Green Tomatoes with Dungeness Crab, coupled with a superb seafood chowder and a delightful backed black cod main course were each delightful experiences.
As its name suggests this is a fish restaurant and has few choices for vegetarians and carnivores (risotto and steak I believe). There are two seating areas, a patio next to the sidewalk with a gas log fireplace, and an interior dining room with a large bar area. We were seated in the patio and despite record cold temperatures in SF the inside temperature was OK (after we asked to be moved from being seated next the clear plastic barrier that separates some tables from the sidewalk, which was drafty and cold). The patio is a good option when the weather in SF in nice.
The food is average, definitely nothing to rave about. As with most other SF restaurants the price of most appetizers is in the mid teens and entrees $25 and up. I opted for two appetizers since none of the entrees appealed to me despite liking fish.
I started with fried calamari. It was a generous portion and not overloaded with breadcrumbs. The deep fried slices of orange and lemon were a nice touch. I followed with the mussels which was a mistake since they were in a thick coconut sauce which was very sweet and made me wonder if it was to disguise the taste/smell of the mussels. I'd avoid the mussels if I go back since I prefer a more traditional presentation in broth or white wine.
We skipped dessert since it was clear our server was waiting for us to leave so she could get her tip.
Catch is our go-to for a solid restaurant with good food, nice atmosphere, and where we can hear each other!
Great ambiance and service, food was good. We were a reservation for 4 that had one drop out, so we three were seated sort of in the doorway to the front part of the restaurant, which was a bit cumbersome and not very private. Had to keep scooting outer chair out of the way of waiters. I would go again, it fills a need, just wasn't happy with seating.
Five of us had a great birthday celebration. Enjoyed every part of it from a drink at the bar to dessert.
Very pleased with food, bread was excellent and overall a wonderful dining experience. We were seated by the fire and a cold San Franciscan night.
Excellent food, cocktails, and service!!!
We went to the Castro Theatre for a movie and had a meal at The Catch afterwards, and were not disappointed. I had scallops which was and my husband chose the sea bass with a crab risotto which he thought was really terrific. Our friend had the sames risotto with halibut. That together with a good sauvignon blanc, we were very happy. We'll be back!
Great service and food! We had a party of 10, all served at the same time and food was hot.
Service and ambiance was great. Very nice touch with a live piano music, and was out of the way so it was not the center of attention. However, the food was quite bland. Fish was perfectly cooked, but not much flavor. Too much cream in the Risotto.
Great drinks, food, and lovely atmosphere with live piano
The food at Catch is excellent-very tasty, great quality and great service. Staff is very accommodating. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
We had a lovely meal at Catch. The seated us by the fireplace and we enjoyed their amazing crab risotto. The service was very professional and helpful. We look forward to returning !
