Lovely restaurant with quiet ambiance and delicious food. I enjoyed the black cod and my husband lapped up every drop of his Cioppino. The service was spot on.
Catch is always wonderful. Staff is professioal and customer first oriented. Ambience is great. Love coming here!
The food was excellent. The place is very inviting especially around the fireplace. The host and our waiter were very friendly and took good care of us without hovering. Will tell friends and will definitely return!
Friendly trained staff
wine reasonably priced
Parking is tough
We again enjoyed a well prepared and nicely served dinner -- and sitting in the patio next to the fireplace was an added treat for a birthday dinner. We especially enjoyed the onion soup -- a slight variation on the traditional which was delicious and hearty. The halibut was nicely prepared, although the tangy puree it was sitting on rather overwhelmed the delicate flavor of the fish. We appreciated the complimentary birthday dessert.
We had great food and and really good server named Cathleen. She was very friendly, knows the menu with great suggestions and very attentive. Will go back. Hope to have her as a server again.
Great service and even better food
Second visit to Catch. We will be back again.
Meh. Rude waiter. Pretty lame tbh
This was my first visit to Catch, and I was definitely pleased with the food. Although I had made a reservation, as usual I noticed that seating options for the single diner are not always what they should be, and single diners are often shuffled to the "less popular" seating areas. This held true for me, and although I was given an "option", my table was still in a traffic area for waiters and other table support staff.
Individual service was good, but certainly not above average. While I had a gaggle of wait staff hovering around my table, they were not attending to me, simply gathering in a place next to my table. The one wait staff who was assigned to my table, seemed to be able to absent himself from this area and forgot some basic aspects of greeting the guest and providing attentive service. I finally had to ask one of the "hovering wait staff" to bring me water and to bring bread to my table. One other "flaw" in the service was the delivery of courses befor the previous course was finished. There are few things more disappointing that to have one's main course delivered while only halfway through eating the appetizers or first course. Such service gives the impression that the guest is being "hurried" through his meal.
However, regardless of the minor faux paux of the wait staff, the food was superb, and I will return to CATCH when I am again in San Francsico. Fried Green Tomatoes with Dungeness Crab, coupled with a superb seafood chowder and a delightful backed black cod main course were each delightful experiences.
As its name suggests this is a fish restaurant and has few choices for vegetarians and carnivores (risotto and steak I believe). There are two seating areas, a patio next to the sidewalk with a gas log fireplace, and an interior dining room with a large bar area. We were seated in the patio and despite record cold temperatures in SF the inside temperature was OK (after we asked to be moved from being seated next the clear plastic barrier that separates some tables from the sidewalk, which was drafty and cold). The patio is a good option when the weather in SF in nice.
The food is average, definitely nothing to rave about. As with most other SF restaurants the price of most appetizers is in the mid teens and entrees $25 and up. I opted for two appetizers since none of the entrees appealed to me despite liking fish.
I started with fried calamari. It was a generous portion and not overloaded with breadcrumbs. The deep fried slices of orange and lemon were a nice touch. I followed with the mussels which was a mistake since they were in a thick coconut sauce which was very sweet and made me wonder if it was to disguise the taste/smell of the mussels. I'd avoid the mussels if I go back since I prefer a more traditional presentation in broth or white wine.
We skipped dessert since it was clear our server was waiting for us to leave so she could get her tip.
Catch is our go-to for a solid restaurant with good food, nice atmosphere, and where we can hear each other!
Great ambiance and service, food was good. We were a reservation for 4 that had one drop out, so we three were seated sort of in the doorway to the front part of the restaurant, which was a bit cumbersome and not very private. Had to keep scooting outer chair out of the way of waiters. I would go again, it fills a need, just wasn't happy with seating.
Five of us had a great birthday celebration. Enjoyed every part of it from a drink at the bar to dessert.
Very pleased with food, bread was excellent and overall a wonderful dining experience. We were seated by the fire and a cold San Franciscan night.
Excellent food, cocktails, and service!!!
We went to the Castro Theatre for a movie and had a meal at The Catch afterwards, and were not disappointed. I had scallops which was and my husband chose the sea bass with a crab risotto which he thought was really terrific. Our friend had the sames risotto with halibut. That together with a good sauvignon blanc, we were very happy. We'll be back!
Great service and food! We had a party of 10, all served at the same time and food was hot.
Service and ambiance was great. Very nice touch with a live piano music, and was out of the way so it was not the center of attention. However, the food was quite bland. Fish was perfectly cooked, but not much flavor. Too much cream in the Risotto.
Great drinks, food, and lovely atmosphere with live piano
The food at Catch is excellent-very tasty, great quality and great service. Staff is very accommodating. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
We had a lovely meal at Catch. The seated us by the fireplace and we enjoyed their amazing crab risotto. The service was very professional and helpful. We look forward to returning !
Catch is our go-to on a short notice. Food is always very good, service is attentive and the atmosphere is always lively. Catch never disappoints.
I've been going to Catch for years but typically for lunch. I was not familiar with our server. Very nice young man but a few mis steps for me. Water was never brought or offered, either was bread. Bread is a great treat at Catch.
The food at Catch is consistent, and very tasty. The service was good, and on a Tuesday night it was pretty quiet when sitting outside.
We were seeing a double bill at the Castro and wanted to try someplace nearby we hadn't before. Found Catch on OpenTable, liked the menu and reviews, so booked a reservation. We were very pleasantly surprised to be served some of the best seafood we've ever had in SF. We were seated beside a circular fireplace in a cozy little anteroom. My husband and I both had grilled tuna over artichoke hearts, roasted Yukon gold potatoes, and green beans. The green beans were a tad undercooked and under-seasoned. But the rest of the dish was fabulous. For dessert, he had the brioche bread pudding with whipped cream and whiskey sauce. I had a type of crunchy baked chocolate cake filled with creamy vanilla gelato and topped with a drizzle of caramel. Both dishes were heavenly!
One my “go to” favorite seafood restaurants in San Francisco. Today we have the salmon with corn risotto. Outstanding !!! Good service and an outdoor patio for people watching makes this a must try!
The tuna poke was good, the cioppino was just OK and the risotto was a bit undercooked and mushy at the same time. It honestly just didn't seem fresh. The sea bass was fine.
The wine list is good and on the evening we went, bottles were 50% off, which was a great deal. I've been here a few times and the food is good. The menu is varied and the fish is always cooked well and has nice flavor. The issue for me is that the chef is a bit heavy handed when seasoning other components (broth, risotto, etc.). The service is warm, gracious, and swift.
We've been regulars for months now. LOVE it. Sanjay and his team are professional, polite, attentive, and friendly.
Always wonderful!! The food is outstanding and consistent. The Turley Zin is a very good thing too. Highly recommend.
Love these guys!!
Great food, great vibe, great service! Our waiter, Tyler, was humorous, full of knowledge regarding the food being served and casual. I had a Tombo Tuna entry; it was one of the best I've had in SF.
We had a lovely dinning experience at Catch. Started with a table by the fireplace, attentive service and wonderful food.
Love this place, love the food. San Francisco is San Francisco. Each place has quirks. Some good some not. On this occasion we ordered Martinis. On the bill they spell it out; $10 for the gin and a separate $1.50 for it being a martini. The explanation given was, frankly, stupid. Even if not stupid the drink cost $11.50, fair enough. Bottom line, I am offended when I come across bills like this.
Tried the SF Restaurant Week menu and we were both pleased with our variety of selections.
From the onset of being seated, we were greeted by a very attentive server and provided us with various drink/cocktail options. We both ordered one of the best Manhattans the both of us have had with imported olives! I chose the prefixe meal option and this was well worth what was charged. The abundant Hangar steak dinner was done as I requested and very tasty. My friend's sea bass over risotto was just as well prepared. My bread pudding dessert with a hint of whisky was hearty enough to be shared! Definitely, a great dinner with an awful friend!!
We dined during restaurant week and both of our meals were superb. The hanger steak was cooked to perfection and the flavor meld of the tuna with mustard sauce was spot on.
Our server, Page, was solicitous and kind. We were too full to have our dessert and he packaged it up for us, not an easy feat since it involved two sauces. The bread pudding was fabulous the next day.
We had never been there before but it will be on our regular list from now on.
Always delicious! A lovely and reliable option in the Castro.
A perfect night out. The meal was incredible...gem salad was delicious...tuna cooked and flavored just right. Has a wonderful wine and our server (Page?) was the best.
